  1. I will admit, server queue's are a pain, and often times frustrating to say the least but understand it is a balancing act between server capacity and a simple over abundance of servers in general. While the former can create queues, the later can be equally frustrating, where the entire server seems like a ghost town, and after a few weeks are forced to combine servers which is also extremely frustrating. I think what you will see over the next several weeks additional servers will come on line, coupled with the max cap being extended for each server, I am sure this will coincide with the natural ebb and flow of gamers coming into the game, and certainly gamers leaving the game, because it's just not for them.

My previous post was certainly not to excuse Bioware, but to be quite honest, this launch really went rather smooth compared to many others I've personally experienced, perfect?, no, better than most, certainly. Hang in there, I promise it will get better...omg, I sound like a Bioware lap dog...

    Woof Woof.

  2. Sorry guys, but even if another game had a worse launch in terms of quality and stability... that doesn't mean that just because it's WoW it gets a free pass or that TOR is allowed to be the same without any rational thought with complaint against it.

I wasn't seeing any problems until they shut it down before the midnight launch. I got back on instantly but the entire game was slow motion and things were crashing / disconning all over the place, even I was, and I had no problems up to the midnight launch during entire EA.

This was a pretty poor mistake on their part, and they screwed the pooch with their choices in regards to the launch.

You can argue it if you like and yeah maybe some games had it harder, but that's not an excuse when you buy a game with money with the assurance that it will "work".

The WoW discussion is more comparison, not excuse, i think. A comparison that not all launches of anywhere near this scale run without flaw. However i dont think it fair to call last night a "mistake". For at least a week now they have been discussing the brief downtime for the actual game launch. They have been frankly sharing realistic timeframes, server delays and other information with customers.

Im still thinking its being managed well despite the small inconveniences. I think even the creators were abit surprised by just how much interest there is in the game. The game will work. The game has worked. The game will work again.

  3. It's amazing to hear all the QQing about server ques etc... I'm not sure how many folks were part of the early launch of WoW including BC expansion, talk about server ques and server instability...I don't think 1/2 the mmo population would have survived. Not to mention my original server was Thunderhorn, one of the first and oldest servers...ah the good old days, raids called due to the fact people would DC constantly, lag spikes galore... :)

I totally agree. I was amazed how smooth the launch has been and then I popped on the forums and you'd think it was trash and everything was breaking.

It took at least 3 weeks to be able to play WoW comfortably after launch without all the DCs and lag...and that was after you finally got onto the server. People need to take a nice deep breath and calm the hell down. Prepare something else to do while you're in queue and you'll be just fine.

Gamers, sci-fi and anime geeks are not exactly known for their rational thinking and patience when excited...but try, try hard.

  4. More and more Michiganders. Sooo awesome. Had about 2 hours to play this weekend due to friends coming in to party for the holiday, but really looking forward to adding more of you to the friend list once i have a little more time to hop on this week.

Time for another question! Did secret santa with some people this week and picked up a preorder of the game for one of them. Did anyone else get SW:ToR as a Christmas gift for a friend or family member? What made you do it? The person I got it for is not a SW fan but has played multiple MMO's and I know he'll love the gameplay.

  5. Holy goodness 25 minute queue! Well I am going to mess with the Vent server options. If anyone wants the info please let me know and I'd be happy to PM them. I'll be kicking around in here most of the night.
  6. 1. Server and char name:

Played since Vanilla sooo many servers including Firetree, Haomarush, Terokkar, Tanaris and Whisperwind. Characters- PrincessKupo, Pomagranate, Persimmon, Gerbera

    2. Why did you leave WoW:

Sadly it was getting a little repetitive, particularly relating to others. Guild created, fun leveling environment, high levels help low levels, high levels get frustrated and want to raid- lots of yelling, high levels break from guild and fail at raiding for months while people learn to raid-even more yelling, join bigger raiding guild and start again, hyperraiding for 8-10 hours a day-so much yelling, overload, WoW break, reroll rinse and repeat.

    3. are you going to play SWTOR perm?:

We shall see. It's all new at the moment so of course everyone is crazy over playing. Once things settle and raiding and long term play structures are determined I'll know better if I'm in for the years I spent WoWing it up. But I'll give it a solid 3-6 months easily :)

  7. I'm surprised your Canadian friends didn't want a guild name such as "TorontoizbetterthanDetroit"

PM me your vent, I might come on and hang out with other Michiganders...

    Kyle

Oh they did. But I'm a woman, they are men and I keep my pimphand strong<yeah right> when it comes to defending my city and my hockey team xD One of them in particular is heavy on the America/Canada jibes, but it is all in fun. They know I only keep them around for their accents <3

You got it. I get out of here at 5pm. Gotta figure out dinner after that sooooo I'll probably send that out about 6-6:30ish.

  8. Soooo I think my Murder Mitten guild name has been overruled by my dear Canadian friends. Instead it will be Galactic Space Wizards if we can manage to get the name. Anyone notice how serious and dull all the guild names have been? "FURY" "HEROS" "AllianceSaviors" "Light Side Players". Ugh! Then again I came from WoW where guilds were always "ITrippedandFell" or "RollingwithmyGnomies". What do you look for in a guild name?

Well I don't know about anyone else, but Friday means an attempted all nighter of play for me! I'll probably be setting up the Ventrilo server tonight if anyone just wants to pop in and hang out while we play. I'll gladly PM anyone the info once I'm out of work tonight. Otherwise hop on to Canderous Ordo and say hi!

  9. Numlock is auto run, click that and you can type and run.

My sentences also come out very quickly.

I'll be logging in tonight when I get back from classes, I got my email today.

I don't have my wine yet, or any cigars so I'll have to be going it clean tonight.

Yeeeah about that.....Thought it would be a brill idea to get a lightup keyboard. And it was. But it lacks a num pad and num lock. I'll have to go in and rebind the keyboard keys to autorun x.x

Going without your gamer tools huh? Brave man. I was just planning my way home so that I can be on as quickly and efficiently as possible. Suggestions for the best gaming dinner?

  10. I don't do voice chat, it fosters that laziness that gamer's are far too known for.

I try to take breaks, hang out with people, go to church, and things like that, and not be absorbed in the games I play for too long at a time. That being said I can play for a long time every once and a while.

I'm a very mature gamer, so I iterate that and expect it when I take part in things with others (I do most things solo unless I meet some friends in the game I like or have them from offline that play too, which is unlikely).

I don't even own a microphone or headset, and I have no intention to stop using typing as a communication medium.

    ---

I also find people are bigger asses when they're speaking rather than typing. Oh, and I type 163 WPM.

See, I think that voicechat makes me more productive. I dont want to waste my time standing around in game while I type something out to a friend when i can run and hit a hot key at the same time....usually xD I'm not the queen of multitasking unfortunately.

I love the voicechat because I, personally, can get a better feel for people when they're speaking than typing. My own personality comes across easier as well. The social aspect of the MMO is my favorite thing. The sociology and psychology behind group gameplay is fascinating.

I do, however, realize it's not for everyone. But I welcome you to pop in and voicechat at least sometime. It can add a whole nother super fun layer to the game :) But only because I'm the most super fun person ever. And not even remotely pushy xD

  11. Question time! What VoiP(voicechat) server does everyone use? Do you prefer Skype? Teamspeak? Ventrilo? In game chat<gag>?

I was always partial to Ventrilo myself. I've used it for about 5 years playing WoW. I have a personal server subscription for the next 3 months. If anyone is interested I'd be happy to PM the info for your use. I want to say it's a 50 man server.

Voicechat is one of my favorite aspects of MMO gaming. I love how it allows for the opportunity to get to know the people you're playing with a little bit better. ....and that it allows you to cry out when you're a sweet little healer getting drilled by overpowering aggro :)

  12. Canderous is looking pretty heavy... I usually join light or medium when I first make a character, which should be tomorrow at night.

I'm thinkin that based on the amount of preorders alone most of the start up servers will get pretty heavy pretty quick, even before the 20th launch. Probably another reason for the rolling starts. I also read they're going to be adding more servers bit by bit to accept all the players.

    In conclusion...join Canderous anyway xD

  13. I guess the above post from me about Fuse is for you then...

    Age?

Yeah, I'm around the Lake Orion / Oakland area.

I don't drink to get drunk or phased though, more enjoy a wine or a nice Woodchuck or some such, just kind of my style. So some Moscato D'Asti Bosie will be my companion.

Business, and I'm at OCC waiting for a transfer, just picking up some credits before I head to Ann Arbor or East Lansing. I was at Arizona for a few years after I graduated in Michigan but I came back to fix up some things and what not. Life has its curves.

Yeah! Thanks for the tip. We usually hit Rochester Mills and have been looking for some new hipster and creeper-lacking hangouts. I'm actually not a huge drinker myself. But seriously nothing beats a chill December Friday night with a cocktail, a hoodie and an MMO lol.

I'm 27, graduated from MCC's medical assisting program and moved on to med billing and eventually nursing. And life does seem to love it's curves, that's for sure.

  14. Oakland County, MI.

I'll be enjoying a cigar and some wine while I play most likely, perhaps I'll save the cigar for after the break though.

Excited for this game and college is done for me tomorrow so that will be great.

Liquor and MMOs are my very favorite combination <3 Congrats on the end of the semester! Are you studying at OU? If so what major? (P.S. Feel free to ignore the nosey bored girl still waiting on her code haha)

  15. Speaking of Flint...The only time I have ever been to Flint was driving back from a trip up north. It was July, I made a wrong turn and ended up in the downtown area where the streets were stone paved. All of the sudden really skinny dude dressed in a full Santa suit jaywalked across the road infront of my car. Oh Flint...

Speaking of murder...I'm going to be making the guild "Murder Mitten" on PvE Canderous Ordo. It seems a fitting tribute. All of you that are still undecided and are looking for a fun, moderately active, voice chat active, relatively mature(most days) guild are more than welcome to join up :) Once I get in game I'll be starting it up asap. If you want to see it happen earlier, message LordBacchus on Canderous Ordo and demand it. Let him know that this is the way Chrissy controls the force ;)

Hope to see you all in game soon!

  16. Wooo! Lots of us from MI. Hey to all the new posters.

Have you all gotten your codes already? I was a little late in my preorder (Late October, Early November) so I'm thinking I've got a few more days left of showing up for work before I'm in early access. :D

What type of server are you all picking? I know JP you mentioned you're RPing it up. I'm personally not an Rper...and I don't know that I can put up with the frustration of PvP at the moment xD It's looking like PvE for me. A few friends are in and on Canderous Ordo, so I'm thinking that's where I'm headed with a Light character first.

  17. Headed out to a bar in Rochester this evening since it's looking like my access is going to be in the next few days and not tonight x.x

    /QUOTE]

Drink away the time until early game access = best forum idea I've read all day!

Right?! Liquor does make most things quicker. I see it as the first step in time travel.

  18. Nice to meet you all. Interesting that we're all relatively close. I was living in Utica, just moved to Warren 2 weeks ago. Headed out to a bar in Rochester this evening since it's looking like my access is going to be in the next few days and not tonight x.x

So how bout a little more info! Ages? Genders? Hobbies? Favorite color?
