And? If you can't tolerate normal person-to-person in-game interactions for a few minutes, than maybe you should have thought about it before joining an MMO. And yes, it's still voluntary. Visiting Hyde and Zeke isn't required - you can wait until the event is over if it bothers you so much. Or better, you could learn to deal with things around other people - including interactions you may not always enjoy (while others do enjoy them), and stop expecting everything to be about you and your personal level of comfort (helps in life as well).

That is another dismissive, and quite silly argument...and exactly why WoW ended up killing Everyquest, and why Brad was from the game that he originated.

"Stop playing the game" It is not a solution, but just more arrogant dismissing and counter productive to their mission statement. In short, foolish of any company to argue. Do I tell my particular customer base to "go somewhere else" during a sales event, or do I mold my marketing campaign around all potential customers?

This entire discussion is a circular logic minefield and totally unnecessary. The solution is to stop letting the NPCs pelt people over an over again, and allow people to turn off the particle effects, or eliminate them altogether. They are not necessary, a simple confirmation not of floating text or in chat will validate. No one sticks around to watch the snowflakes after they pummel someone. Like every other event, they shoot and run to the next target to get through it.

Ah, the condescension is strong with this one!

Snowball throwing isn't normal person-to-person interaction in a MMO (and I've played enough of them to know - this game certainly isn't my first). It is only for a specific, time-limited event - but that doesn't mean that those of us who dislike the effect it has on the person who has no choice in being a participant (the target) should be the ones to hide away when we just want to play our game, however we wish to (and how those of us with subs pay for). Equally, those who throw the snowballs should also stop expecting everything to be about them and their personal wishes/comfort, and show some respect to people who immediately click the effect off, indicating that the effect is unwelcome.

As I, and many others in this thread have said, I have no wish to have the event or the snowballs removed - if people find it fun, good for them, and may they enjoy every one! All I would like is an opt-out option for the visual effect. It would not impact others' gameplay or experience, so I fail to understand why there is this vitriol towards those for whom this effect is annoying.

It's also weird having snowballs in the middle of summer...../shrug

You are making all too much sense here.

    But seriously. Outstanding post.

I am sure that creating something that will appeal to everyone and will not find a single hater is not so much difficult as it is impossible.

But back to the topic of snowballs, what simple solution that will please everyone do you propose? As I mentioned above, the vaccine will satisfy those who don't want a winter mist when hit, but it does nothing for those who don't want it thrown at them. An item that will make them an illegal target? seems too complicated to implement. Option to show neither aura nor snowballs? People have been asking for the ability to "turn off" the graphics of certain attacks for a long time because during several people's fights with a boss, you can't see anything on the screen, there are so many effects and it didn't help, so I doubt they would bother for a small event.

So what's your perfect and simple solution?

Your argument is a hasty generalization fallacy, and you are speaking both sides of the argument, with a sort of arrogance that declares you "the winner" with not a lick of knowledge as to how the programing works.

I've worked in the field. If they can program a complicated event, they can program a simple solution.

Easiest? Turn off the particle effects.

    Done and done.

you have to accept that MMOs are designed for a "massive" amount of people, not just one person.

That is exactly what he is arguing. His game play is as important to him as yours is to you.

The sort of mentality being displayed here is exactly why WoW killed Everyquest. They appealed to the entire player base, not just those seeking one "style" of play. Your play should not disturb his play is the argument on the board, and it is a valid one. Preventing the annoyance for him, does not affect your gameplay at all, but the other way around does affect his.

You do realise that there are other things you do on fleet than just the GTN, right? Things that you are UNABLE to do in a SH - like Hyde and Zeek vendors etc.  So that makes participation in this tiresome event involuntary - I have no option but to go to fleet, unless you can please advise where I can find these vendors elsewhere so I can go there?

Seems that the problem with game boards is that there are people who think this is part of the game and seek to "win" rather than participate in logical discourse...as evidenced by some of the illogical, or ad hominem style replies here.

The solution here is not a tough one, and has already been suggested. Remove the particle effects, have the NPCs cease pelting people, take rational discussions such as yours to heart and strive to provide as much enjoyment with as little annoyance to the entire player base as is possible.

You call them kids, but who is the bigger kid, the one who throws snowballs during the winter event exactly as the developers wanted, or someone for whom the barely visible aura on the character ruins the entire pleasure of the game and spoils the mood?

While we're at it, maybe let's introduce an option that will make us not see Christmas decorations on the fleet, there will certainly be a player who doesn't like them and maybe even find them offensive. But why stop at decorations, there are already suggestions on the forum to ban mounts from the fleet because they bother someone and are supposedly disruptive. I wonder what will disturb the people tomorrow, maybe the bright colors of the lightsabers? Let's remove them today just in case.

Your first paragraph is not an argument but a personal attack. What you are trying to do here is to insult me directly as a means of dismissing the argument on the board. You have invoked a number of sophomoric logical fallacies from, tu quoque fallacy all the way to Ad Hominem.  Going to have to drop that hook into someone else's lily pond, chief. Not going there.

Your second paragraph is even worse, reductio ad absurdum, or extrapolating to the extreme in order to dismiss another's argument rather than challenge it.

Again, get back to me when you are willing to discuss the issue, rationally, as a means of satisfying the desires of all players, not just those who you approve of, or events that you approve of, and without the snitty little insults.

The solution here  is not rocket science, and the suggestions from other players, who do not desire to be forced to play "your way" is valid and should be considered for the next event.

Did someone force you to log into the game? Or do GTN on fleet of all places while the event is going on? You could go to your stronghold (unlisted if you wanted no one to find you) and concentrate on GTN there, but you chose not to. So whether you like it or not, you are participating in the event voluntarily.

It doesn't take a "tough guy" to play a video game (saw your post before it appears to have been removed for whatever reason), but being too sensitive to every little thing makes the experience more miserable, both for you and the ones around you (goes for life as well).

    1. No one forced me to "log into the game". I'm paying for that. Argument makes no sense, except as to dismiss. Argue the point on the board.

    2. So I should avoid an aspect of the game because you "feel" that I should, rather than the developers creating an event that does not annoy other players, who are, btw, paying for a service. That's just another dismissal argument

    3. The internet muscles, tough guy talk was yours. I just reproved it. I believe yours was removed also.

    4. The "sensitive" argument is yet another dismissal tactic, and an insult, but you have still not addressed the issue on the board...and btw, I'm A US Marine Sgt, with two tours, so the "tough guy" talk is laughable.

Get back to me when you are ready to discuss the argument on the board rather than insult, bully, or try to intimidate other posters with your dismissal tactics...and the issue on the board is how to create an event for some players that does not irritate, or infringe upon other players. Pretty simple to understand, even easier to solve.

How did you get in here?

The particle effects are exactly the annoying issue.

Life Day is just a few weeks out of 52. If it's that bad, you can just skip playing during those weeks, or stay in pvp instance.

The same mission terminals you have on fleet are in Odessen too, and while there are still players in Odessen pvp instance, it's still only a few people compared to fleet. Go with a stealther if you want to completely avoid those too.

The reality here is that when given an ability to either disrupt another's game-play, or annoy another, the kiddies will do so, and with gusto. One would think that, after 12 years, the developers would have learned that. In fact, and no offense, I'm not sure which is more annoying, snowflakes dancing around my screen or  your suggested solution.

No we can't since there are achievements, parcels, and conquest points to be gained from it. It's always funny to me how people complain about other players playing the game as intended hence in this case throwing snowballs. Do you also come to PVP and complain about the opposite team fighting you? Or do you complain about NPCs (and god forbid bosses) attacking you while you're running missions? Because complaining about snowballs is in the same category of silly.

Silly argument. Those other events are what we call, Voluntary. We go there by choice, for the intent to participate. When I am at the GTN trying to concentrate on what I'm doing, I am not voluntarily choosing to participate in this silly event.

  11. It's already dead according to the internet experts. It died right after it launched. I was there. I saw it with my own eyes.

It died again with the first expansion. I saw that too.

Died a third time when it added FTP, or was that something that saved it? Not sure, it's died so many times.

The point is that it's still here, and it's still doing well.

When it will end is anyone's guess, but for now, for the next year or so, its here. Enjoy the ride.

  12. If I were a game developer for this mmo, I wouldn't be interested in trying to focus on 8/16 man content either.

Four, eight, and sixteen man content would work for all levels of play. No need to get rid of the guild level raiding. Since I've come back I've noticed that guild are getting fat with players because there are reasons to join a guild now. For a large segment of the population, it is that guild, voice chat, the friendships, raiding together that keeps those guilds in the game.

Four man would cater to the story players, the big raids for guilds and big raid puggers...but they need new raids right along with content. One must seek the largest demographic in order to realize the greatest participation and revenue.

  13. But why so few people are doing them other than EV and KP when there is no priority? This will get even worse if there is new ops and higher tier gears.

Being Hardmode doesn't mean it should always stay hard after 4 years, understand this.

Hard mode is not hard. It is what we used to call normal. All one has to do is to pay attention to, and learn the mechanics (which are the essence of a raid). The problem is that most pugs want to just go in and steam-roll for gear; that most pugs will have players that do not know the fights. EV and KP are the most noted raids that pretty much everyone knows, and they are super easy.

Nothing wrong with the way puggers want to go about it. For them there is story mode. For raiders there is hard, and nightmare. Everyone has a level of raid that they can participate in.

The problem is, as has been stated, that there are no new raids.

  14. What did I expect? I don't know, how about this:

Introduce a new tier of pvp. Or at least a mid tier of ranked. Or allow me to get to 59 so at a minimum I can have the same gear and abilities as the other pvp'ers in the tier I am now relegated to.

As I keep saying - I am not asking for things for free. But I would like to at least have the stuff I had before.

And fwiw all of you saying that 'every MMO...' nonsense have not played enough MMOs. Plenty of MMOs include new content with subscription fees. In fact, part of what I expected comes from the reality that THIS mmo has done it in the past.

But anyways -- you are all right. What was I expecting here?

They did not take anything away, the game simply moved past you. I'm in the same situation having just returned after some 6 months or so.

That is how MMO's work.Everyone else that is now ranked paid for the expansion. There would be a greater unfairness if you were to get what everyone else paid for, for free.

Not sure what anyone else can add that has not already been said. The game has not taken anything my friend. You are being unreasonable on this matter.

  15. Old player returning. Question on outfit collections.

If I have a character that originated a collection, and delete him, do I lose that outfit from my collections?

I have a sith assassin that collected the Conservator's set and I want to delete him. Are collected sets permanent or will I lose it? I'm assuming they are an account thing, but don't want to take the chance without knowing.

    Thanks in advance.

  16. After an almost 14 month break, I'm returning to the game. WoW is headed in a direction I just didn't want to go. So, I figured I would bring my ridiculous amount of dollars over to Bioware and give the game a go. When last I left, I was mid level on a Jedi Tank and an Operative healer. Will most likely just re-roll to learn the character classes. It is important for me to be able to solo content since my time is limited and finding a group isn't always an option.

Any recommendations, since I am starting over anyway, for a class that does fast damage, but has great survivability? I don't even mind healing a companion while they tank. I just want to take advantage of the 2XP weekend and pick something that will serve me well. I am also talking strictly PvE as PvP is not for me. Thanks!

I have to tell ya, any character is easy to run if you keep them geared in at least blues (companion also). I have three raid level and a mess of alts. I find all of them to be rather easy to run, even the tanks and healers (my first was my tank). Only time i die is to stupid. I like the sorc and Consular myself, enjoy the Operative also (very fast because of stealth), and love running FPs.

Use your planetary coms (they are generic now so can be used to buy mods from any planet at any level) and you will make enough to keep your companion in blues and do some of your own. Make a cyber tech and use the alt to farm up mats and feed your CT (mine are scavenging, underwold, and whatever else you may want.) Put on orange gear at level 10 and mod it every 4 levels of so.

My strategy is to boost all xp gains through legacy, use the major xp boosts, do daily space, FP, PVP and you will have enough xp to avoid all the side quests and just enjoy the story.

.....but honestly, play what you will enjoy end game because they are all pretty easy to level.

  17. I've been playing this game since launch and I haven't "maxed out" all classes and companions, and their gear...

Anyways, to actually answer the OP. What I do for end-game (with the three characters I have that are at that point) is PVP and Space PVP, and try to work through the Operations in increasing difficulties. I think the point of end-game is to try to just become a better player, because there is always a bigger fish as it is said ;).

    - Arcada

Yep. Pretty much the same. I have completed 3 myself, the holy trinity (tank, healer, dps), through end game while in my guild. Took a break for a few months, now working through new stories and will do end game with them if I stick around. By then I'm thinking, and hoping, for a level cap increase and new OPs for my older characters to run.

  18. Drink some bourbon and smoke a stogie. YOU WON THE GAME!

Oh, you might want to try going outside too. It hear it's the rave in new MMO's. Awesome physics and graphics engines. But you might want to start out wearing sunglasses. :p

    LOL.

Alts. OP. alts. I'm not a fanatical player. I've been here since launch. I've completed three of the eight and geared them up, done end game etc....and am now working to do the other 6 stories....and I do spend most of my time playing that Old MMORPG, RL....but alts are fun, the stories are good and with all the xp boost out there you only have to do the daily FP, Space Missions, and PVP in order to skip all side quests and just concentrate on the story. datacrons, gearing etc. (which makes it way more fun for me)

  19. If you have only one character, then you are out of luck. If you have a character that you can park out on Hoth, it's more like 5 minutes per hour to run the short circuit of three nests. Login, run the three nests, log out, rinse and repeat once every 30-60 minutes.... do something else the rest of the time on a different character.

This is what I'm thinking for any futures. Leave one minor high level up there with like 100 lures. Log on, run the loop in Clabburn, go back to playing....or even leave him at one nest and just log, try, log off as there is no hurry from this point on.

    Best way I think.

  20. you can purchase the samples from the vendor for 100k. so you can either grind the 15 (or 20 for f2p) or purchase at 100k each or some combination to get the 15 required.

Yes. Saw that. There are other purchase options also, including the CM....but really two things here.

First is that I really wanted to do a fun quest for this, and do so on most of my chars. Yanno, so each would earn the mount while going through hoth, or even doing so that like my gunslinger could have one earlier?

Second is the cost. At 1.5 mil per, I'd be up around 20 million to supply my mains and alts. Way too much for just one single mount of many, (including animal mounts).

Got it done though. MY GS has his mount, but honestly not something I'd want to slog through again. Maybe leave my mains in position for the day and get another just in case (if i have some time), maybe buy one later on, but not something I'd want to do as a game quest, or set up logistically again. Was just too tedious to do on all chars, and not really what I'd call "game fun".....like perhaps when I did my speeder quests through raids and world boss kills etc. That was enjoyable and done "as you go".

Thanks for the help and information though. Saved me a lot of time. Very much appreciated. ;p

  21. I LOL'ed. :D

Regardless, there's no actual quest attached to the Tauntaun grind on Hoth so your initial assumption, even if jocose, was quite accurate.

Or part of it anyway. DO NOT QUIT.

    Right?

That's the thing. Its not a quest, its a boring camp (or grind). A quest would have been great, even jumping planets to track down the illusive widget from the mysterious guy who's daughter's, mother's, father had ventured to Hoth to learn the secret ways a taming the tauntaun would be at lest fun.....but sitting on spawn points or running from one to another hopping the RNG Gods are on your side is anything but fun. Finding "work-arounds" by using multiple chars, or anything else is not very immersive either. In fact, as I'm doing here, it takes you right out of the game.

I think I'll do the first one just because I'm into it and have already invested the time, but I doubt I'll ever do it again. Even the logging from char to char is tedious. LOL

But thanks to all for the advice and info (and humor). Appreciate it.

  22. Instance hop OR do it with multiple characters if there are not multiple instances.

OR... just buy the drops ... OR just go buy one of the many TaunTaun in game off the GTN now. Only one you have to have drops for is the original quested one on Hoth.

Only one instance, no drops to buy, or I wold be doing that. Not looking to pay over a million creds on the GTN for a novelty mount thats rather ugly and not the one I want. LOL.

I heard about the quest so I thought I'd try it and have some fun getting one but its been anything but fun. In fact, pretty boring and tedious (going on 5 hours, multiple chars, about a 1 in 15 success rate thus far, with extreme re-spawn times). Honestly, If not for being here doing work anyway and logging on to the game every hour I'd not be doing it and just not have the mount. Unfortunate as if it were thought out a bit better I could see it being a fun quest.
