  1. But...you're...wrong...

    Sigh.

You pre-ordered to make sure the game didn't sell out on launch day before you could get your copy. If you pre-ordered SPECIFICALLY for Early Access, then you should have read the part where it said "Up to five days" and comprehended it for what it meant. Up to. Not guarunteed five days. Up to. You knowingly paid for the CHANCE to play up to five days early.

If you didn't understand this, you should brush up on reading comprehension.

As to your continual hammering at how they're pissing on an opportunity to test their servers...they already tested their servers at maximum load. They don't need those metrics anymore.

What they -do- need is to see how their servers respond to continual authentication requests as new users download and sign in to their game. They need to get an idea of how each blade performs under X amount of users using the release client so they can plan for their launch date rollout. They need to respond to issues as they arise on this microcosmic level as opposed to "OH CRAP ITS LAUNCH DAY AND THE INTERWEBS CAUGHT FIRE".

That is PRECISELY why they are staggering this.

The moral of this story: shut up.

Irony: when someone makes fun of someone else about comprehension with a jibe including words spelled wrong. Can't we all just get along?

  2. IT ALSO SAID "Up to 5 days of early access". That would be 2 days from now. If you want to hold someone to some exacting standards, start with yourself.

The MMO community is such a childish bunch. I have to wonder how many of you are crying and holding your breath. Just CALM DOWN. Bioware is 2 days early. They could have started all this 2 days from now. Take a DEEP BREATH, and remember this is a video game.

And yet here you are posting...

  3. Nobody should expect that... the surge will be huge, and they need to spread things out so there aren't 1000+ people trying to run around on each starter planet concurrently.

These worlds consist of a large cluster of very expensive servers each, and they need to make good use of that hardware, spreading player levels over time to help balance that load across all planets on each world (and the whole cluster of servers for that world). If they have 2 million pre-orders and wanted to allow everyone to rush the gates all at once, they'd probably need like 1000 worlds (not 107). Then, post-launch, they'd have massive server mergers once the excitement died down (because once players spread out past the starting planets, each of those worlds would feel too empty).

Even just the Day 1 rush will be huge (although perhaps they'll finish that up by the end of today). Didn't they have like 350K pre-orders on July 21st?

Kudos to them for spreading things out, hopefully keeping the launch smooth. I don't expect to get in until maybe Saturday, but that's OK. My kids won't be joining me until Tuesday ;).

    Khafar

There will still be a huge demand day 1 (20th) this would be a perfect test to see what the servers can handle. They had a stress test weekend for this reason to see what the servers can handle. You said they are expensive. They are expensive, not because they are pretty but because they are designed to do a job. 7 days from right now there will be no waves other than a tidal wave.

  4. If the people making snotty comments would take off the fanboy blinders for a minute and think this through long term you would see that this is not a good sign for next week. 7 days from now the game goes live. If the serves cannot handle an influx of people now and they have to stagger the launch, what does that say for next week? Are they going to launch in waves too?

People with complaints are making valid points and they are frustrated. Let them voice their opinions without calling them whiners and other names. They are saying bad things about a game you like not about your own child.
