  1. DDO has added a TON of content since it went F2P. New levels new races and classes as well as a ton of new dungeons.

LotrO has added 2 full expansion packs since it went F2P as well as a whole bunch of updates.

EQ2 has also added a new expansion pack since it went F2P.

I'll be totally honest, I completely forgot about DDO. It's nice that it has added things to it. My point still stands, though. What is being focused on more by these devs? I'll bet for all that was added in content, there was significantly more added to their cash shops.

Don't even get me started on buying experience boosters...

  2. Gonna play until we hit the Free to Play model, then unsub. The only true successful F2P transition was LOTRO and that is mostly because of the lore behind it. SWTOR may have that, but not from me.

Free to play model bring less content than sub-based models. Less developer time on content, more developer time on what they can put in the cash shop.

  3. Im a big fan of this game, still am, and I have played A LOT of mmos. There really isnt many at all that dont offer a freemium version of the game. In fact, it tends to be a good thing for games overall.

I thought and hoped they would offer this eventually and they have. Players these days dont like the sub restrictions and its quite obvious this business model is the future for mmos. AAA titles like LOTRO, AOC, EQ2, DCUO and some others have all switched to this model and they are more successful because of it.

I am just curious how people can view this model negatively now a days with how proven a track record it has.

I understand how hyped this game was and all that but they still should have launched with this model. The mmo markets is just too competitive to offer only the archaic sub model.

At some point, everyone needs to come to the realization that offering a f2p version of the game doesnt mean the game failed, it just means that they are remaining competitive with the market.

Even WOW has a F2P version

The reason I do not like the Free to Play model is because the focus of the development team goes to the cash shops, with very little content being made to the actual game. They do this because they aren't generating the revenue they used to so meetings go from "Hey, let's create this new planet/zone/warzone/" to "Hey, let's make this awesome lightsaber and make it cost $10."

I know it is more than just greed. They need to make money somehow from the game when it goes free to play. The issue becomes apparent when you see content droughts because of the cash shop.

  4. I would love to get the friend's trial moment, but what really is the point of the program anyways? They simultaneously announce the new mount, but also announce the free to play to level 15? Why would anyone take a free 7 day trial over an unlimited free trial up to level 15 for so many characters? this reward is one that just a few people will get.

Perhaps institute veteran rewards like Rift. That would be rewarding to current players...not this.

Perhaps the goal is to get your friend to also sub the game as well, not just play to level 15?

  5. People will have their own reason for hating Free To Play.

Mine comes from Star Trek Online. As soon as this game went free to play, there was a content drought that lasted months. And any content that was made, went straight to the cash shop.

When a game goes Free To Play, that tells me that either the developers stopped caring about their customers and just want to cash in, or there isn't enough developers on the payroll anymore. Neither of these are good options for SWTOR.

  6. 2 questions:

    1. Why do you think you deserve it more? Because you do.. what, precisely?

    2. Are you paying those $15 out of your own pocket? - before you answer, I am also a subscriber.

Answer your first question with a question: Do you think anyone deserves a free month? If so, why only the level 50's or Legacy level 6's? What makes them deserve it more than someone who has been supporting the game just as much as the level 50?

Once again, if this was something as far as an in-game pet, title, or mount, I would not care. But free money is free money and yes, I'm gonna rage about it.

  7. Chalk me up as another person dissatisfied with the arrangements. I had made a few alts before even unlocking my legacy. I only just started getting Legacy XP because of this.

If this would have been an in-game thing like a pet or ability or social outfit, I would have been fine with not getting it. But this is money. Who doesn't want to save money? I have been paying as long as any of the other paying level 50's or Legacy level 6.

I guess I'm not a loyal enough customer.

I'm not going to threaten to go to another game. I honestly love this game, but I really have lost a lot of faith in the Bioware for making this decision.

  8. Sorry didn't realized it's a rant for the free month. Bioware owe you nothing and the free month is just a bonus, put this in your head.

It's a bonus to whom, though? Their "most loyal" customers? Please.

If the level 50s feel like this is just a bonus to them, I suppose they wouldn't care if they just took away the free month entirely? I say we do that.

  9. Why would people suddenly stop playing Diablo 3? It's an ARPG not an MMORPG. They are two separate genres of games. Diablo 3 doesn't have a subscription, therefore, both can be played without any issue.
  10. Six month subbed, staying for the long haul.

It's most likely because I haven't played to the higher levels yet (my highest character is only 25), but I just don't see the issues other people are having. Yes I get some FPS drops, but I'm also running on a computer from 2006 that desperately needs upgrading.

My only complaints with the UI have been that it's a bit large and I would love to have a third hotbar on the bottom.

Other than that, I've been 3-manning with some friends and we've had a blast.

  11. I'm all for dual-speccing within your AC. But not change your AC. To go from Merc healer to Powertech tank is like going from Shaman to Warrior in WoW. Two completely different play styles that most (not all) would have to completely relevel to understand how they play and how to play them well.
  12. My opinion : regardless of class, someone who specs purely for one role in his class should not generally have an edge over anyone that specs purely for the same role in any other class.

If I choose a purely DPS class, it is not because I want an edge, it is because I do not want to do anything else.

This. Just because my tree has other roles in it (merc), if I do not spec into them, and just spec damage, I would hope I would be just as viable as someone who only has damage trees (Marauder).
