  1. Think of it like a highway. Its 10 lanes.

Enough cars get onto that highway and it slows to a crawl.

So they start queuing people onto the highway. Many cities have lights that flash red and green to let you know when its your turn to get on during rush hour. A queue works the same way.

Your first choke point is the login server (and they have the login server set to queue too >.> I know, I saw them test it in beta), then the data center, then the server itself.

Without a queue, and with enough 'cars' coming on, and eventually you have no movement, or a crash.

And no technology exists that can prevent this kind of thing from happening or being required. At least not without greater cost than its worth to them.

And we absolutely do not want or need them bring up a new server every ten minutes, as that'll be bad for the long term. Plus MMO players are creatures of habit and will ignore the new servers anyway.

Thank you. My follow up question is wasn't the staged launch supposed to allevaite the traffic problems?

  2. I had a 40 page thread prior to the forum wipe warning people there would be queues and server crashes. (in a humorous fake dramatic manner)

    I mostly got flamed.

The problem isn't server capacity, folks. The problem is all those connections closing in on the data centers at once.

    Explain for us simple folk.
