  1. I've been wondering since they gave me a month free whether or not they'd bottle up 1.3 till the day after most people renew their accounts. I'm really glad they gave me a free month (which I barely used because my main server had no one to play with), but I'm also displeased at EA/Bioware's focus on releasing all new content right before or after everyone is resubscribing.

I was hoping to play 1.3 for a few days, to tell if I should stay on or not, if people are going to stay on board or if the new content is worth it. If this is a retention scheme, I'm really disappointed by EA's insistence on using trickery to maintain playerbase, instead of keeping up plentiful content all can enjoy (a lot of old MMO'ers don't like making alts, which is the big content draw of this game) and building community (perhaps through events, PvP tournaments?)

Really, I think its way too early to tell what this game is going to form into, and some of the problems listed above will probably be fixed in the not-too-distant future. For example, many people disliked Guild Wars until it was about the 3rd month of its release, when PvP was fixed and new group-focused PvE was released. I think I'm going to give SWTOR a few months to cool off, because I'm hoping the recent dev diaries will deliver their promise of awesome content in the future.

I almost don't know what to do, because I feel like I'm being drawn into a scheme, but I also what to see the new content. Feels like a low blow. But, then again, I have other games to play.

  2. Great suggestions. Are you like a risk analysis specialist? o.o

No, they are both wrong and stupid. This is an MMO hence the MASSIVELY MULTIPLAYER part. If they want to play on low-pop so they have a "solo" experience, they need to just go dig the KOTOR cd's out from their closet and play that. If someone thinks wanting to play on a heavily populated server on an MMO is stupid, they are likely a hipster playing their first MMO and don't want to look foolish in front of other people when they're trying to basic attack a world boss to death...

IF you just wanted to play with your friends, a low pop server is your personal playground. Like a official private server :D

But I agree, those people who refuse t group or talk really get on my nerves.

  3. I feel like they will do something to disappoint us. Instead of being able to transfer to a high pop server, I imagine they will only let high pop servers downgrade. My server only has 70 people on Rebuplic at all hours. If we all went to a planet, we'd not even split it into a different zone.

Here's hoping it will be good.

  4. I guess I should've added that re-rolling was never an issue for me, since in the FIVE months I've been playing (subbed on Dec 24th), my highest toon is a level 29 Jedi Consular (on Ebon Hawk).

I guess if you have a lvl 50 with all the bells and whistles for gear then re-rollling is more "painful."

Its not so much 50, as that's not really a problem if you can stand mucking through the 30-50 content; ALONE as you have to on most server. For me, I have 2 50s and a level 21 Legacy. Pretty sick of the game because no one's ever on my server, but then, I don't really want to level a whole new set of characters on a server that might not be the highest pop when 1.3 comes along.

it wont work that way 1.3 transfers that are free you wont be able to go to fatman or jedi i think they will be locked they want to pop non pop servers nt servers that get over 300 ppl on them at peak

pretty dumb of them, considering there are too many servers

  5. I love the game's Rocket Boots skill, but I think it needs some tweaks.

First off, you can't mount your bike while using them. You can use them while riding a mount, but not vise verse. It makes it a little inconvenient to use rocket boots effectively sometimes.

It dispels your companion, which can be annoying coupled with the glitch which occurs when you have three party members, and your companion will not reappear when you dismount; even if you're far away from other party members. This also makes the rocket boots ineffective when used before starting cut-scenes, because your companion will usually not re-summon in time to participate.

It would be better if this skill were just a buff instead of a buff that turns into a vehicle.

If you're going to keep it a vehicle, I'd suggest that, instead of ending on combat, the skill is not usable in Warzones and not usable while fighting, If you are hit, you have a chance of being shot down. This will make using the rocket boots when you already have a 90% mount have some point to it.

Additionally, I'd like to see legacy unlocks which improve its duration, allow it to be used while in non-Warzone combat, and eventually, allow it to be used as an actual mount (looks used by a Bounty Hunter).

  6. Legacy is meant as a reward for playing on a server; last names, family trees, that's just glitter. I'd support the idea of sharing these benefits with a few friends, but then they wouldn't be able to build their own legacy.
  7. Offtopic forum = What do you think of [x controversy]?

Yeah.. You can't even talk about religion, history, or politics academically on this forum. Seriously, someone made a topic on why characters say 'Hell' (from an in-universe perspective). Great academic discussion of the word's meaning and origin.. Swiftly locked.

  8. I would say, because instances and linear paths are EA's idea of saving money in an MMO (in which, by genre, exploration is expected). The planets are big, but they're nothing but massive travel-time sinks with trash mobs blocking our every path... the linear path that leads to the linear quests for a semi-linear class story.

By the way, might want to think about how you look, because the capslock forest makes you seem like you're itching for a padded room/locked thread >.<

  9. The game did fail, it promised so much, even after release, and didn't give hardly anything!
Like..? The only promises I see that were broken were 'no trash mobs' and 'exploration'.

I complained about a lot of things, because I truly wanted the game to be good, I love star wars, and used to love Bioware, but after this debacle, I HIGHLY doubt I'll ever buy an EA or Bioware game again...
EA has a long track record of launching cheap products. They're in for the money, all the way. BioWare, on the other hand, sold out Obsidian by not cooperating with them in making KOTOR2 (had a hand in refusing them to even play the first game) , and went and recycled the KOTOR1 storyline in their own franchise (ME). In my opinion, this is by no means a failure in the sense that they didn't deliver to the fans, but that the fans just weren't interested; its by no means a 'debacle'.

They're just making it worse for themselves with every patch... not to mention the non-existent customer service!
Customer service now makes it a habit to personally contact me in live chat moments after I submit a ticket. Its based on how many tickets they're getting at the time, albeit, the auto-prioritizer, I imagine, throws a lot of meaningful tickets away.

The server transfers will not magically make more people play so that you can even run a FP, it will make it so that the 'high pop' servers have even less on them... making it even worse, and everyone will just re-roll or pay transfer back... wouldn't have to deal with ANY of this kind of BS if they would just merge the servers and this game would then actually feel/be an MMO... seeing a max of 20 people of the fleet is NOT an MMO! If anything it's an ORPG that you may see someone... if you're lucky... and it's the 'right time of day' ... give me a break
I have to say that it seems they do need to merge instead of doing transfers. Everyone wants to move to Fatman, the only truly active server on North America.

To sum it up, while the game failed to hit a home run in the MMO scene, you're really over-reacting. The only problem with the game is that there are too many servers and not enough people.

  10. Each faction is like two different Star Wars games, though.

And KotOR only really has two different outcomes, depending if you're light or dark. ME really doesn't have a different outcome, just different flavors of the same outcome, just like TOR.

Most quests end with a 'Wow, you did it. good job, here's your reward. go see agent Floknard.' If every quest ended uniquely, I could totally see your point. I could do the quest where you get the ring from the desert hunter in KOTOR 1 over and over. I could listen to Bastilla talk about her parents in the Cantina 5 in a row times. Why? Because each choice I make isn't going to just play a scripted audio clip, its going to help build the game's atmosphere and my character.

When collecting 15 dataclips for Commander Reiker is just going to give me a pat on the back, and has no effect on my character's progression, what do I care? I guess what I'm trying to say is that the quests don't feel like they're connected or have meaning, although being totally necessary for faster progression.

And then, if there were people to play with and who wanted to group, all my concerns would be relieved, because we'd just be breezing through what I now see "just the same old thing". Maybe its in how I look at it, because on my second Smuggler playthrough I was adamant about listening to every bit of dialogue.. But when I can finish their sentences, why shouldn't I skip? And if I skip, that'll help me loose the connection I have with my character.

  11. Since you ask, my motive is to play all of it again.

Then again, I've played KotOR 12 times, KotOR2 8 times, Mass Effect 5 times and ME2 4 times. Replaying ME and ME2 for ME3, so it'll make it 6 and 5 times, respectively.

I enjoy a good story, what can I say. I have books on my shelf that I've read upwards of 20 times, such as "The Walking Drum". And I have movies on blu-ray that I own that I've seen.... couldn't even begin to tell you. The Bourne Trilogy, Avatar, Star Wars I-VI, Batman Begins and The Dark Knight, etc.

Replaying in TOR is no different than that for me. ;)

Again? I'm on my 6th go-through. Kotor and ME have multiple outcomes for each playthrough. Aside from class content, you can only do each standard SWTOR quest one way. Your choices might show different short dialogue clips, but they almost always finish the same way. And even if each scene were strikingly different, that's still only 2-3 potential outcomes for each dialogue screen.

I can see myself playing my Sith Warrior again to experience the dark path or the 'third option'. But then, I'd have to play through a whole 180 hours of content that I've already seen on my Sith Warrior, Bounty Hunter, Imperial agent. That doesn't sound reasonable to me. Not to mention the fact that most of that time is going to be occupied by traveling, loading, and fighting trash mobs.

I can literally see myself playing each class over and over to see how different things mix, but not when I have all of this obligatory minor content to go through first.
