    Prompt: Deadly Sins

    Title: Just One Drink

Mila Stariser awoke to the sound of a med monitor and the hum of the ships’ engine. Her head was pounding and she felt groggy and sick to her stomach. Mila could hardly remember what happened the night before, but knew that whatever it was she had drunk a little too much again judging by the familiar feeling that she was experiencing.

Suddenly, Corso walked into the room, flipping on a switch as she came in. Mila shielded her eyes from the bright light above her, wincing in pain as her headache worsened from the light.

“Hey farm boy,” said Mila jokingly,” What happened last night?”

“You and Risha had another drinking contest, the tie breaker,” said Corso with a sigh.

“Did I win,” asked Mila turning to lie flat on her stomach.

“Nope,” said Corso flatly. He crossed his arms,” You got a problem you know.”

“What might that be goody,” groaned Mila as she reached for a kolto pill.

“You and I both know what it is Cap,” said Corso walking to the refresher to get Mila a glass of water.

Mila accepted the glass and swallowed the pill. “It’s not that big of a deal.”

“Well, according to princess, you consume the most amount of alcohol on the ship,” replied Corso now sitting on the side of her bed.

“Hey I like to have fun,” replied Mila with a half-smile.

“Yeah but too much of anything is bad for you,” said Corso in his familiar lecturing tone.

“Oh not this again,” said Mila with a sigh.

“Well, you ain’t listening,” exclaimed Corso,” I just don’t want you to become a drunk somewhere is all.”

“Do you love me Corso baby,” said Mila with a wink.

Corso shook his head and got up from his seat on Mila’s bedside. “If you aren’t going to take me seriously then you can pass out in some bar on Nal Hutta.”

Corso turned out the light and began to walk out the door of the medical bay. Mila said hoarsely,” Hey Corso thanks for looking out for me. I’ll try to cut back, promise ok.”

Corso turned his head around, giving Mila a small smile. “Thanks Captain.”

Then he walked out shutting the door behind him leaving Mila alone in the dark as she fell asleep.

  2. Prompt: Virtues

    Title: Loner

Mira Stariser eased her way through the crowd that surrounded the Jedi transport responsible for bringing those trained in the Force. She was hopeful to find a new friend amongst the crowd of kids that would come through the transport as she did every time a new transport came. She was friendless in the academy, mainly because of her unwillingness to stray from the Jedi Code and her “show off” personality which was only her trying her best, not to be rude to her fellow Jedi.

Mira slid through the crowd to get a good view of the children as the exited the ship in a single file line. A Jedi Master greeted the children as they came out, giving them a small wave and a radiant smile. Mira thought it was nice that the Jedi wanted to make their students comfortable in their new home, after all some of the children’s parents may have been killed by the Empire….

After almost two minutes most of the kids exited out of the transport, frolicking in the large expanse of the spaceport. Mira watched them play a game of tag and wanted to join in, but suddenly the familiar feeling of shyness washed over her and she simply waited next to the Jedi Master which greeted the kids as they exited the transport.

Suddenly, Mira noticed that the Jedi Master’s welcoming spirit had vanished and was instead replaced by a frown as he pressed an earpiece to his ear. Mira wondered what the matter was and tugged on the master’s d****** robe.

“Um, is something wrong,” asked Mira with a hint of worry in her voice.

The master glared at her and replied hastily,” None of your concern youngling.”

Mira stepped back and peered inside the transport wondering what was bothering the Jedi. It wasn’t long until she knew what was bothering him.

One last youngling staggered out of the transport, limping slightly as he made his way down the boarding ramp. He was a Sith. His skin faired a bright crimson and his eyes were a glowing yellow. His tentacles draped from his chin creepily, while thick black hair covered his head like a hood. He also looked wounded, with a black eye on his right side, a small clump of his hair had been torn out ,and his face seemed to be clawed judging by a scar running down his face.

“Hi,” said the Sith, his voice nasally as he spoke to the Jedi Master with a smile.

“Shut up,” hissed the master as he pushed the Sith off he loading ramp and onto the floor.

“I’m sorry,” replied the boy looking down at the floor as he picked himself up.

Mira lent the boy a hand as he got up from the tiled floor. Suddenly, the Jedi Master slapped her hand and pulled her away from the youngling.

Mira was confused and asked curiously,” Why are you being mean to him?”

“His kind will have no respect from me,” snapped the master,” If you know what’s good for you then you won’t associate yourself with that thing.”

Then Mira said something that caused the other kids and some of the masters supervising to look her direction,” What’s the matter with you?”

The room was silent for a moment and the Jedi Master simply glared at her furiously. The outburst even surprised Mira as she covered her mouth in surprise.

“Do you know what that is,” whispered the master emphasizing the word, that.

“It’s a him,” replied Mira as she went to greet the Sith.

A voice shouted from behind her,” Zero has a new friend!”

Mira stopped in her tracks and turned around to face a group of her classmates who were snickering in the corner of the hanger. The name hurt her. It was a name she hated, a legacy of being a loner.

Today she was going to destroy that legacy.

“Hi,” said Mira with a smile as she continued over to the Sith,” What’s your name?”

“Aron,” said the Sith kindly,” What’s your name?”

“Mira,” she replied extending a hand,” Welcome to the Jedi!”

    Author Note:

Didn't feel it was as refined as I would like ,but I thought that it was pretty good for my tired state.:)

  3. Late prompting!

    Prompt: Seasons

    Title: Holidays

    "

Hey Sis," said Mila Stariser as she reached put to hug her sister.

Mira embraced Mila, her shivering visible even through her thick Jedi robes. The frigid winter's of Alderan were quite harsh even on one who was trained to withstand such conditions.."It's fantastic to see you again Mil."

"The sexy beasts unite once again," said Mila happily as she embraced her sister.

"It's actually the sexy twosome," said Mira laughingly as she withdrew from the embrace.

    "It's trademarked," said Mila grinning.

"If anyone says otherwise I can show them the blade of my saber," said Mira pointing to one of her lightsabers which hung on one of the buckles of her utility belt.

"Thought Jedi were supposed to be benevolent snobs who meditated all day."

"Joining the Jedi is the most fulfilling thing that has ever happened me," replied Mira.

"Whatever you say," said Mila with a shrug," What do you say we get a drink sis?"

"Great," said Mira following Mila to the small circular building which stood outside house Organa.

Mira and Mila entered the cantina, warmth instantly washing over them in a lovely and cosy way. Mila led Mira over to the stools of the bar and flicked two credit chips at the bartender who then went to bring out two Cassandra Sunrises .

"I appreciate it," said Mira removing her hood letting loose a long brown ponytail.

"Don't mention it sister," replied Mila taking a long sip of the bubbly orange drink," Takes a bite out of the winter chill you know."

"Something everyone needs at this time of year," said Mira with a sigh. "Especially, since Jedi can't celebrate holidays with family."

"Which we aren't doing right now," said Mila with a wink.

"Look I understand the danger of attachment," said Mira looking into her drink as if she was looking for something inside." The Jedi way is the perfect way to live. It keeps from falling into darkness."

"Your telling me you think dating sexy guys and spending time with family is going to make you evil," said Mila mockingly.

    "No," Mira stammered.

"What are we doing right now then?"

Mira was silent a moment. She answered with a slight annoyance in her voice," Sometimes people need to spend time with friends is all."

Mila's eyebrows wrinkled and her radiant smile diminished. "You don't consider me family?"

"I do consider you family Mil ,but we don't see each other as often as other siblings do so our bond is more friendly."

Mila took a sip of her drink turning to face the dispenser in front of her." I consider you my BFF you know."

Mira blushed slightly as she stared into her drink. "Same."

"That's why I got you this," said Mila grinning as she reached into her brown jacket to take out a beautifully wrapped gift.

Mira smiled and took the gift, instantly trying to unwrap it. It was in the shape of a rectangle with a shiny blue wrapping and read ribbon. She opened it carefully, unwrapping the present neatly.

Mira put the wrappings to the side in a folded pile and opened the white box which was inside the lovely wrapping. She took off the cover and was in absolute awe at the sight of what was in it.

"Mil," said Mira as she pulled out a beautiful charm bracelet laced in a masterfully crafted row of rainbow gems," This must cost a fortune."

"Yeah," said Mila as she pushed her empty drink to the side," Princess gave em to me for finding a family heirloom in one of the caves on Gallinore."

"Wow," said Mira observing the millions of colors which twinkled brilliantly on the bracelet. But, Mira's smile dissipated as she looked up at her sister," But, I don't have anything to give you."

"Nah, you don't have to give me anything sis. I just like spending time with you."

"I just wish I had something to give you," said Mira with a sigh," This is worth more than me and the most I can offer is some favors."

"Well, is you really feel that bad," said Mila inching her hand towards the glass of Cassandra Sunrise which lay in front of Mira," I wouldn't want your drink to go to waste."

"Sure," said Mira with a grin as she pushed her glass towards Mila.

"Thanks," said Mila taking a swig of the foamy alcoholic beverage.

Authors Note: Holidays are the best time of the year when people don't mind giving everything to people they love.:) And Santa.:D

  4. I'm hiding from the General Forum right now, so have this tidbit :)...

    Color Code

    Ukaita and Scourge

    no spoilers

"It's pink." Scourge's voice was completely flat.

Ukaita grinned and swung her new lightsabers a few times, enjoying the flash of blinding magenta. "Yep! Isn't it gorgeous?"

"And you expect to instill fear into the hearts of your enemies with a lightsaber that is...pink." Disbelief dripped from his voice.

"Nope!" she said sending one of her sabers on a spinning throw that was almost blinding. "I expect my dazzling display of skill to do that!"

Scourge closed his eyes and shook his head as he left the training area.

"Hey!" she called after him, "I got one for you too!! With added purple!"

    Cracked me up.:p:D

  5. Parenting: Ambition, starring Ruth and Rylon Niral. 300 words, no spoilers.

18 ATC – seven years after the confirmation of the Wrath

Dromund Kaas – the Niral estate

    “Mom?”

    “Yes, Rylon?”

Six-year-old Rylon Niral stopped his habitual fidgeting to stare at his mother. “How come you can’t shoot Force lightning?”

    “I never trained the skill.”

    “Why?”

“Because I spent that time honing my skills with a lightsaber.”

    “Why?”

    “I like saber combat more.”

    “Why?”

“It gets you more exercise. Gives you more physical followthrough. And, strangely enough, makes less of a mess of your hair.”

Rylon shook out his shaggy black hair, grabbed a handful, considered it, looked back up at Ruth. “Why?”

“I’m afraid I’m not well qualified to explain static Force effects to you.”

    “Why?”

“Already answered that one. I spent my time learning the lightsaber, not studying textbooks.”

    “Why?”

    “To defend myself, little guy.”

    “Why?”

    “Um. Because I like living?”

    “Why?”

She half laughed. “This has taken an existential turn I’m not sure I’m comfortable with.”

    “Why?”

“Because some answers do more harm than good, sweetie.”

    “Why?”

“If I knew that, my life would be a much different thing.”

    “Why?”

“Well, I would have all the answers and then I could probably go be the Empress myself.”

“Whoa.” Rylon scrunched up his brow to consider. “But you have to shoot Force lightning to be the Emperor.”

“Not if I were in charge. I would change the rules so you just have to be the best at lightsabers.”

“Huh. Show me more saber stuff?”

“Sure.” She started toward the playroom, which stored a few practice sabers, including some scaled for little Rylon. “Let’s go, kid.”

He skipped on ahead. “We can train up and then both be Emperor!”

She laughed. “And why would we do that?”

    “Because it’s awesome.”

My reaction= Awwww!:D This was good lol.:)

  6. Haven't posted here in a while, but whipped something together to get a break from well everything. Also, love everyone's stories so far, got some catching up to do.:

    Prompt :Affection and Ceremony

    Title: Birthday

Featuring: Vette and Quinn (Svein mentioned) Quinncident spoiler sort of

The Fury class starship was in a frantic yet excited mood. Birthdays were always an exciting time especially if you hadn't celebrated in 5 years.

Quinn looked over the ship, his eyes scanning for any oddities that he could find. He had never expected he would be planning his master's "birthday" as Vette had called it, but Quinn was content if it made his master respect him more.

Vette scurried across the holo room to stand next to him. She stared at the beautifully wrapped birthday gifts and balloons that followed.

"For a stuffy dull old captain you really know how to throw a party," said Vette approvingly as she headed towards the punch bowl.

"First off I'm not stuffy and I am certainly not old," snapped Quinn," Even I am intelligent on such matters such as "birthdays"."

"Have you ever celebrated Captain," asked Vette curiously as she poured some Juma Juice into her drink.

    "Of course not," replied Quinn.

"Then how are you so good at it."

"As I have already told you, I am knowledgeable on such things," replied Quinn slightly annoyed.

    "Doubt it," said Vette.

Quinn was becoming more irratated," I am not a child."

"You calling every being in the galaxy children," replied Vette who began to fill a plate with food.

"When are you going to stop asking me questions", sighed Quinn.

"Till, you tell me your big secret.

Quinn was silent for a moment, cursing in his mind.

"I don't have to entertain you with such knowledge," said Quinn dismissively as he turned to a box of decorations that sat in the corner of the room.

"So, you do have a secret," replied Vette.

Quinn paused with a loud sigh ,and turned to Vette who stood chomping on trail mix as if she were a gundark.

"Fine," said Quinn face palming as he walked over to Vette.

"So,where did you learn to throw birthday parties", asked Vette curiously.

"I was 15 when I last threw a party," said Quinn almost hurting.

    Vette nodded attentively.

"It was a wonderful afternoon on Dromund Kass and my friends had showered me with an array of decorations and celebration. It was a truly momentous occasion."

"Called a birthday party," interjected Vette.

"Would you let me talk," said Quinn irritably," Anyways it was like any party except there was one person there who I had not recognized."

    "Who was it?"

    "My biological father."

Vette raised an eyebrow ," You were adopted?"

Quinn turned to face the holo terminal," He had wanted me to reunite with the rest of our family and had especially wanted me to meet my brother. I turned him away after believing I had been abandoned by him."

    "Yeah", said Vette sheepishly.

Quinn continued," Other than that portion, the party was a success. It was what happened after that I decided that I wouldn't throw a party again."

    "Oh", replied Vette curiously.

"My father was killed during an encounter with a runaway slave. He was a Cipher agent for Imperial Intelligence. It was just a day after my birthday."

Then the room was silent and Vette looked up at Quinn with comforting eyes.

"That's a tough break, I'm sorry," said Vette sympathetically.

"I don't want you pity," said Quinn tiredly," I have something to do if you don't mind."

    "Sure", replied Vette.

Quinn walked into his quarters and reached into a small compartment above the ship's controls. He pulled out a small journal the size of his palm. He wrote quickly....

    Dear Diary,

Vette and I talked today. It was about petty parties and it grew into a conversation about my past. I wish Vette and I..... Could be together. But, I cannot even get over my past. I am once again alone on my birthday.

Until next time, Malavai Ardon Quinn

Quinn slipped the diary back into the compartment, straightened his uniform, and walked out into the holo room, alone.

  7. I'm not sure what I can say. It would certainly be disrespectful of me to try and give advice, or say I know what you're feeling, since I've never had children. All I can say is that I am here to support you, as I am sure the rest of our family are as well. And don't worry about the writing, write when and what you feel comfortable with.

    Same here mags.:)

  8. Brianna looked out of the south tower of the jedi temple. She was alone. Meetra had seemed so distracted lately, and out of all the Jedi, Meetra seemed to be the only one who understood how Brianna felt. They were both exiled, forgotten by their masters, their peers.

She looked out at the Coruscant sunset, for once since her days at the Telos academy, she actually felt at peace. It was a shame she had no one to share it with.

However something at the back of her mind was telling her to run. To run as far as she could and never come back. But it was a foolish thought, Why should she? She was in no danger!

She walked down the spiral staircase. The sunset was over, it was time for her to get some sleep. It had been a long day. The voice at the back of her head kept telling her to run, it felt like someone was watching her. Calm Down she kept telling herself. You have nothing to fear. You are a Jedi Master!

She arrived in her room, set her robes on a hook on the back of the door, and climbed into bed. She was having a tough time getting some sleep, the voice in her head was getting louder and louder. Then something clicked. It wasnt her voice. It didnt sound like her. She could not control it. Someone was in her head.

In the empty darkness in the corner of her room a Double bladed Saber, red as a laegreks eye, ignited.

I loved this! It was great.:) I always thought Vias as an assassin as well and this was a good illustration I'd Brianna's feelings. Good job!:)

  9. However they were stupid enough to drop it. They could've ended the war right then and there by onliterating the planet. But no, the Empire decided to release it. Not that I have anything against the fact that they gave it up (if they had destroyed Coruscant there would be no TOR), but it was a good chance to achieve galactic domination. They could've at least wrecked it a LITTLE bit...

    Play pub and you'll see...

  10. The pages with my volunteer victims will probably take me forever to draw but here is a preview of the lovely ladies looking flirty at Lord Scourge. You know you would!

Also, if you do not want your character's name on there let me know, I will leave it off and if you don't like it or have a critique I welcome any comments but I suck so I may not be able to accommodate changes.

Thar be an image in the spoiler

There's a larger version you can dl from my deviant art.

I lolled and in my opinion Atr'o looks like a sexy beast..... Awkward lol:D

  11. I am so glad to finally get this one out. I do feel a little iffy on this one though because I really feel like I didn't describe things well for some reason. But, maybe that's just my inner editor talking.:D

    Chapter 5: Discovery

    Dromund Kass, Expirey Estate

    1BTC

Verana stared down at the gold and silver slave outfit that dangled from the bedpost of Expirey’s bed. It was vulgar and revealing, much like those seen on dancers in Hutt palaces. It was hideous in Verana’s mind.

“Get it on”, said Expirey roughly as he pointed to the outfit.

Verana looked down at her black and grey tunic. “Even this trash is better than that.”

“Have you not learned your lesson slave”, said Expirey waving a shock collar controller in his hand.

Expirey pressed the red button on the controller and Verana clutched her neck in pain.

“I’m slow”, replied Verana spitting on Expirey.

Expirey shook his head, his yellow eyes turning threatening. “I’m surprised that your affinity for the Force doesn’t give you an ounce of sense in your head.”

Verana’s eyes widened and she looked away. Then a question popped from Verana’s mouth that she didn’t process right away,” Why am I a slave?”

Expirey chuckled and he walked to face Verana. His pale and corrupt features made him seem like a monster in the darkness that engulfed the room.

“Because you choose to be a slave,” whispered Expirey creepily.

Verana looked out Expirey’s picture window, her face studying the lightning as it streaked across the sky. What did he mean she chose to be a slave? Did she make the choice to live a life of servitude?

“What do you mean,” asked Verana.

“If you knew then my efforts to buy you would have been for naught.”

Expirey moved closer to Verana, his eyes dancing as the lightning flashed. Verana backed away, clenching her hands into fists.

Expirey noticed her aggression and said,” You cannot escape.”

    “I choose a different fate.”

    “What is that?”

“Freedom”, replied Verana her red eyes narrowing at Expirey.

Suddenly, Verana shot a volley of lightning at Expirey. The lightning rippled through the air and Expirey was forced into a wall, tumbling into furniture as he was thrown through the air.

Verana looked down at her fists which were now trembling hands.

How did I do that, thought Verana.

Verana shook the thought away and ran for her shock collar controller. Expirey’s eyes widened as he saw Verana activate the release on her collar. The collar dropped to the floor next to the bed with a thud and Verana darted towards the exit.

“No”, yelled Expirey as he extended a hand towards Verana.

Suddenly, Verana was lifted off her feet and pulled towards the Sith lord who was now standing. She was put into a headlock, her face filled with fury as she struggled to free herself.

“You are mine”, said Expirey sternly as he moved her towards the bed.

“No”, screamed Verana who clawed at Expirey’s face.

Then Verana noticed Expirey’s utility belt which carried his lightsaber. She reached for it, hoping another miracle would take place.

Her luck couldn’t have been timed better.

The lightsaber lifted from Expirey’s belt and floated into her hand. Appalled, she slammed the spiked hilt into Expirey’s face as lay her forcefully on the bed. He threw Verana towards the door as she clutched his bleeding face. Verana scrambled for the double doors, terrified by her newly discovered powers.

Verana kicked the doors open and ignited the blade with a push of a button. The blade hummed as she raced down the corridor and into the turbolift. She punched in buttons at random, not caring about her destination.

The lift doors shut with a whoosh, and Verana slumped against the wall astounded by what had occurred. She was Force Sensitive. But, now a mysterious and confusing question remained.

    Why was she a slave?

  12. Title: Counting Siblings

    Characters: SW (Lucerna), Vette

Spoilers: Just for one early companion quest and the identity of your first companion as a SW

Lucerna Nocturne was unlike any Sith Vette had ever met, though the list of Sith she HAD met was mercifully short. For one, she seemed genuinely upset when she had to kill her opponents, even if her victim was attacking her first. Second, and most importantly, she showed compassion and empathy. She never shocked Vette, and she took the slave collar off the first time Vette asked. She even showed honest interest in the Twi'lek's well being. That was why, on the long journey to Balmorra, Vette decided to take a chance and ask the Sith to play a simple game of "Two Truths and a Lie." If Lucerna accepted, it would help pass the time, and if she refused, well, Lucy didn't seem like the type to cause Vette physical harm for such a minor slight.

"So, I've been in jail sixteen times, I have three sisters, and I've worked as a hired assassin." Vette offered. Lucerna needed no time to deliberate.

"The statement about sisters is a lie." Lucerna stated. Vette grinned. So Lucy had been listening to their little conversations after all. Vette was about to congratulate her when the Sith continued. "You have four."

"Four?" Vette asked, bewildered. She guessed the Sith didn't care about their conversations as much as Vette hoped. "How do you figure that?"

Lucerna looked both hurt and confused as she held out a gloved hand with all four fingers extended.

"Tivva." She said, touching one finger. "Risha," she touched another, "Taunt," one more, "and me." She finished, touching the last finger. Vette beamed.

"Wow, I guess when you think of it that way. Either way, three was the lie, but I should say I have four. Non-blood family can be just as special, right?"

"Of course." Lucerna smiled, her expression warming. "Now do I get a turn?"

"Sure!" Vette exclaimed. That was unexpected. Lucerna rarely talked about herself or her past, and Vette was eager to learn more about the Sith she followed.

"All right.." Lucerna started, "I was married for six months, so far I have three brothers and two sisters, and I keep a secret stash of candies on the ship that you haven't found yet."

Vette did some quick mental fact checking. "Lucy.. it's two truths, not two lies. The candy and the siblings are lies. You told me about the slave boy and slave girl who became your brother and sister on Korriban. You have me, and you said the slave boy had a little brother you've never met who became your brother by proxy. That means you're down a brother. And I KNOW the candy is a lie."

"Oh, I know the rules." Lucerna smirked. "I have one half-brother by blood I haven't told you about yet. We weren't raised together, and we don't get along very well, but blood still counts for something."

"So tell me about him!" Vette interrupted. "And tell me about your husband."

"There's not much to say about my half-brother." Lucerna said, shrugging. "His name is Draagh and he's also force-sensitive, but I haven't kept a close watch on him. As for my old husband, he never existed. The marriage was the lie. I do have a stash of candy."

Now it was Vette's turn to smirk. "I know." She started. "That wasn't the lying part, the lie was that I hadn't found it yet."

    Notes:

I seriously wanted to write a fic about this conversation and Vette really having four sisters ever since I saw that conversation in the early days of launch. The candy idea came to me while I was writing the first part, and I really liked how it worked.

That was heartwarming when Lucy said that she counted as Vette's sister.:) I also like how Lucy an Draagh are related!

Perhaps they will meet in the future....

EDIT: Vess, that was awesome! This actually reminds me alot of me and my siblings. The rivalry never ends.:D

  13. Ceremonies? I'm terrible at ceremonies. But I left out several significant moments in Ruth Niral's life, so let's see what she has to say. This is set in the gap between this thread's earlier relationship drama nonsense (RMC Timeline 2.5) and Ruth Means Compassion's Timeline 3. 650 words, no game spoilers.

August, 27 ATC - 16 years after the confirmation of the Wrath

3 months before the Wrath is called to kill Larr Gith

Ruth greeted Quinn at the door. "How was work? Two weeks always feels like a long time away."

"It does." He took off his jacket and carefully hung it up. "Talay won't be won with a central battle, but we're taking it one small victory at a time. The system was ours once. It will be again. How are things here?"

"Here? I've been in the field, mostly. It's going well. Hungry?"

"I ate on the shuttle home."

"Excellent. I get to skip to kissing you."

"You would do that anyway," he managed to say before she closed the distance between them.

"Well," she said between kisses, "this way" - "I don't" - "feel" - "guilty about" - "starving you in the process."

"That's considerammfmhmm." He pulled her close and let her set the pace until a pause came up. "I am a little tired, beloved."

"Not a problem. I actually - " she stepped back and tensed up a little. "I actually wanted to ask you something, something very important."

    "Anything."

She led him over to the couch and sat him down. His expression was edging towards a frown by the time she started talking again. "This may sound nonsensical, but I was wondering if you'd like to get married again."

His frownward progress halted. He stared at her for a long moment. When he spoke his voice was perfectly clear and steady. "Yes. I just never expected you would."

"Hey." She laid her palm against his cheek. "We've worked hard to come this far. I am with you, all the way."

"How are we going to tell Rylon?"

Her face fell. "I don't know. I don't think there's a way he'll be happy about it, so it may be safest to present it as a fait accompli. At least he'd respect the decisiveness."

"I wish he would come to accept our being together...but you're right. It can't be a matter of permission or negotiation." He squeezed her hands. "What sort of ceremony do you want?"

"Simple. Very simple. Minimal. We can sign the paperwork, otherwise everything that matters is right here."

"We won't keep it a secret, though."

"No. Absolutely not." She twisted around to reach a side table, produced a small box. Opened it to reveal a pair of plain gold rings.

He let out a soft laughing breath. "You are an astonishingly impatient woman."

"Not impatient. Just prepared for every eventuality that I can arrange on short notice." She ran her fingertips over and around his hand, strong, smooth but for a few calluses on the palm and trigger finger. "May I?"

"Do as you will, my lord. I'm just trying to keep up."

She laughed, raised his hand to her lips to kiss it, slipped the ring on. "No conflicts this time. Just us."

He took her small scarred hand in turn, studied it. "I'll be there for you this time. Sometimes it feels like I've waited all my life to be here, with you." He set the ring on her finger and kept hold of her hand when he leaned forward to kiss her.

"I didn't prepare vows or anything," she said. "Just know that I'm yours. Now and for the rest of my life."

"May that be a long time."

"With us looking out for each other? It will be." She set one hand on his chest. "We're together now. And I trust you."

He shut his eyes for a second. "Say it again."

"I trust you, Malavai. I know we'll get it right this time."

"I will be worthy of that trust, Ruth. Now and always."

They kissed for a while longer, not infrequently sliding to touch the unfamiliar new shapes on each other's fingers. At length Ruth half stood up and pulled him to follow.

"I'm afraid I truly am tired," he murmured apologetically.

"So we'll sleep, dearest. I'll be with you."

    Notes:

Looking back, very little of this kind of affection makes it through to the existing RMC text. It's just that I concentrated on plot events for RMC, and every time plot happens, s*** hits the fan and she snaps out of affectionate mode!

There's that, and there's the fact that as I review my work I find that I'm overwhelmingly bored by happiness, and only get interested in writing when there are nigh-intractable conflicts and incompatibilities to struggle with. My husband would be most upset to discover this :o (...and see, getting upset is what drives interesting events, so therefore-- STOP THAT, O FOMENTER OF TERRIBLE THINGS.)

I think my tear ducts shattered..... Both the fact of what occurs next and it was just beautifully written.:)
