  1. I call BS on this update.

Legacy update was promis this month, not next or later.

Also this is not the biggest free update, fist alot of the stuff in this update was in some of the other new mmo.

Also have you seen some of the EvE updates? also Rift got a free new giant zone.

Also insted of this one giant update, what about doing something smart, and make something, test it and then release it insted of setting on it and waiting to some wierd date.

    some extra.

lol. just lol, last sentence makes no sense.

  2. So not only are they giving combat abilities for legacy advancement, they're giving CC abilities.

If these are available in PvP, an extra WZ and ranks aren't going to save it.

    Also, still no combat log?

Only can be used when there is a companion out and it is the Heroic Moment ability so it is on a pretty long CD.

  3. The changes in 1.2 put the final nail in the coffin for my subscription. You guys and gals dropped a bomb on Star Wars lore. With your inability to put appropriate Crystal Color solutions into place.

Remove the LS / DS restrictions but, if only on the RP servers you should add restrictions that adhere to the traditions during this time period (Sith and blaster shooting classes use red only, etc).

Ability to have a Bounty Hunter Force Choke someone is a joke as well. Why didn't you just unlock skills that don't give someone such a large Force advantage like that? Such as Imperial Agent unlocks a Stealth Generator skill. Or Jedi Consular can unlock your ability to rally your allies with a temporary buff.

You decided the ability for a Trooper to Force Lightning was okay because his dad was a Pureblood Sith Inquisitor? Seems pretty far fetched.

I really think your design team needs to do a better job of customer profiling and reviewing analytic data on your community of players.

    /disappointed :(

You act as if you know the star wars lore but you don't.

  4. They have done something that WoW won't do after 8 years.

    Oceanic servers.

SW:TOR has given us that in 3 months.

The devs deserve the benefit of the doubt and gets A for effort.

No one is complaining about the fact that they put in Oceanic Servers. Kudos to them on that.

We are complaining that they did not even do any research about the internet routing in Asia and called it Asia Pacific Servers saying we get reduced latency from Asia.

A for effort? More like A for trying to make as much money as possible by deceiving the customers, whether intentional or not intentional it is still false advertising.

  5. I'm pretty sure one of the deciding factors in placing servers in AU is the population of AU/NZ users/players compared to the rest of Asia. I'm guessing that even with SG + HK + others combined, AU/NZ have more players significantly.

It is definitely the case that there are a lot more AU/NZ players and placing the servers in AU was an obvious choice but why call it Asia Pacific and not just Oceanic? It is a pretty blatant scam to earn more money to advertise in Singapore and Hong Kong saying that it will have decrease latency.

  6. LOLOLOLOL

You obviously don't know how routing works....

    This isn't BW's fault.

Call up your ISP and have words.

I am immediately on the phone with Time Warner when I have latency issues and my routing is getting bad hops by checking via a trace.

At the end of the day it has NOTHING to do with the Game Devs, IT'S YOUR ISP. Them making servers available that are more localized is the best they can do for you, the rest is between you and your ISP.

Nothing to do with the Game Devs? You would think Bioware would research a little on how a country that they advertise to have decrease latency would route their internet.

  7. edit: Oh my, the situation for ea is worse than i thought. The advertising is more than deceptive; it's flat-out false with respect to the hong kong and singapore a-p launch locations. It's my understanding swtor was advertised in hk and singapore using the following promotional wording:

"new servers in the asia pacific region will provide a world class game experience to our customers. It will allow them to play with players from the same time zone, bringing the asia pacific community together. it will also allow players to take advantage of decreased network latency by placing the game on a regional server."

false advertising is regarded in many jurisdictions as a serious criminal offense. The multinational shoemaker reebok in september 2011 agreed to pay a fine of us$25 million to the us fair trade commission due to "deceptive" advertising stating that use of reebok shoes would lead to more toned legs.

    http://au.ibtimes.com/articles/221887/20110929/false-advertising-implicates-reebok-pays-25m-as-fines.htm

as compared to reebok's advertisng, ea's is much more clearly false advertising as the claim that singapore and hk players will experience "decreased network latency" on swtor "a-p servers" is patently false.

Singapore's on point law in this regard is the "consumer protection (fair trading) act" (the "act") which prohibits a supplier from (a) causing a consumer to be deceived or misled, (b) making a false claim, or © taking advantage of a consumer. The full body of the act can be found at the following website of the singapore ministry of trade and industry:

    http://app.mti.gov.sg/default.asp?id=84

section 4 of the act defines a prohibited "unfair practice" in pertinent part as follows:

    "meaning of unfair practice

    4. It is an unfair practice for a supplier, in relation to a consumer transaction —

    (a) to do or say anything, or omit to do or say anything, if as a result a consumer might reasonably be deceived or misled;

    (b) to make a false claim;

© to take advantage of a consumer if the supplier knows or ought reasonably to know that the consumer — (i) is not in a position to protect his own interests; or

(ii) is not reasonably able to understand the character, nature, language or effect of the transaction or any matter related to the transaction; or

    (d) without limiting the generality of paragraphs (a), (b) and ©, to do anything specified in the second schedule."

per section 9, upon application by the appropriate singapore governmental entity, a singapore court may grant an injunction preventing the "unfair practice". The injunction might go so far as to prevent all sales of swtor in singapore, although it is more likely that the injunction would simply ban the current advertising and require that a corrective statement be issued by the supplier.

    hear hear!

  8. Good morning. First of all, if you haven't seen the FAQ already, I wanted to let you know it's now been updated.

I understand the frustration, and if we had details that we were ready to share, we'd share them. We don't yet.

As I mentioned previously, more information on the character transfer process, especially in regards to things such as Legacy levels, will be released closer to when character transfer is available (currently scheduled for late April).

The Legacy system complicates the character transfer system considerably. We're aware of the implications with transfers though and working to try and ensure the smoothest transition for those with Legacy levels.

General character transfer will follow after the optional one-off transfer already announced for Asia-Pacific players.

    From the FAQ:

"If your character name is already taken on the destination server, your character will be transferred, but you will be prompted to choose a new name for the character when you log in to the server."

Unfortunately, without placing a server in every country, it's impossible to ensure lower latency for all. We'll continue to monitor reports of latency issues for anomalies.

Adding servers in every country that can play The Old Republic is not feasible. However, as anyone playing The Old Republic is able to login to any server or choose any server region, you are not restricted in where you play, and can find the best latency for you.

Somehow it feels as if Bioware have no clue what to do with the transfers and are trying to delay as long as possible.

Saying it's an Asia Pacific Launch and then having to play on US servers for best performance - FAIL

  9. Starhub is probably the worst of the 3 isp's connecting to the new servers but thats not the point. Point is the latency that we are getting right now is far from "world class", no matter which isp. And ya changing isp isnt the solution at all, no way...

Anyway m1 really getting 100ms? constant? behind routing service/tunnels? interesting...

Yea changing isp is out of the question but I lost count of how many times my internet or latency problems have been Starhub related.

I spoke to a few M1 users and they were get 100-150ms.

  10. What does the Asia Pacific release mean? I can already play from the Asia Pacific region.

The release in the Asia Pacific region means that Star Wars: The Old Republic will be officially sold in Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong and Singapore.

New servers in the Asia Pacific region will provide a world class game experience to our customers. It will allow them to play with players from the same time zone, bringing the Asia Pacific community together. It will also allow players to take advantage of decreased network latency by placing the game on a regional server.

World class decreased network latency my bawls, what a joke. I get it if its only listed as Australia and its close surrounding neighbouring countries which i am very happy for them as its all good and well but 400+ ms from SG to their servers and u call this world class?

Precisely. Sadly, I doubt they are even going to bother. Usual excuse would be it's not us it's you.

  11. Whats the point of playing with people "in your timezone" when your getting latency at 400-500ms which is really unplayable for end game.

Bioware keeps saying that they want to bring us the best experience possible and that was the reason many countries were excluded from the official launch.

Playing with 400-500ms on a server DEDICATED to Asia Pacific is not a good experience.

  12. In case anyone plans on doing 800 warzones, I'll calculate the time for you. Let's take worst case scenario.

All 800 games are huttball, and each huttball lasts 16 minutes. That is 213 hours. 213 hours is about 9 straight days. Now add waiting times for each individual server. That's another 9 days, for 18 days. On my server, we can easily say 15 minutes between each game. Then you have to sleep, work, eat and all that, so if you play 12 hours a day - double that time again. That'll be about 36 days.

Yep. I should have champ gear by year 2014.

    2 Weekly's = 6 bags

    14 Dailies = 14 bags

Maybe add in another bag or two for that week is 22 bags a week.
