  1. What they mean by spread sheets, is that its just data. You could turn off the graphics completely and play the game. Its basically a non-graphical MUD with an awesome screen saver for a background 99% of the time.

I give EVE props for the things it did right, but what it has done wrong, is why its not a powerhouse in the MMO market.

Eve is a power house MMO. the big 2 are WoW and Eve. SWTOR survivable is questionable.

  2. Very well I shall explain.

It brings me great joy to play a game so boring I log off to advance skills.

I greatly enjoy watching a lazer pewpew every 10 seconds with the same boring animation.

Perhaps this game would be "fun" if I just set it to auto and alt tabbed for like... the rest of the time I played.

Still waiting for where spread sheets and excel comes in....

  3. ...

    what?

What does having been around since 2003 have to do with the fact they are losing money now, so much so that they had to fire 200 people, close an entire development office, curtail their tabletop subsidiary's actions, and shut down development on their second MMO?

I dont care what they did in 2003, in 2011, they did all of those things. They lost millions.

Its kind of like saying "well Kodak has been around since the 1800s so how they can they be failing?!"

It makes about as much sense, too.

They have been around since 2003. They have outlived WoW and I am willing to bet they will outlive SWTOR. How is a game not succesful that has eben around since 2003 and is still getting new subs. Do tell...

  4. Yes, but in his defense, somebody new to the game really doesn't have that many options -- almost all of them are incredibly boring and repetitious. They should start new players off with 1 year work of skill points -- that might bring in a new population.

I disagree. You can be PvP ready within 1 month probably less. It is these players faults for not going out and finding a good corp to join to elarn the ropes. Instead they choose to play it as a single player game. Just like here. And you wodner why they say eve is boring when they never truly experience it in depth. Even if it is flying a tackling t1 frig and acting like cannon fodder.

  5. Well yes there are better ways, but when you have 0 resources to begin with, that is sort of the direction the game steers you in.

If you don't get guild support in that game early on (and/or buy isk off ebay or something), it is incredibly difficult to get started fresh.

The game being extremely slow and boring I suppose didn't help my interest much to go seek help either.

So you admit to never truly experiencing the game then. Thus making your argument invalid.

  6. Oh I remember EVE. Work my *** off running repetitive missions in order to afford a battleship, only to get blasted to **** and lose everything in like 0.5 space from an ambush squad with a 0% chance of defending myself or escape.

I've given that game a few tries now, just not my cup of tea.

you ran missions. There was your problem.

  7. You might be interested to know that during their panels at Dragon*Con this year, CCP listed PvP, and how brutally unforgiving and unbalanced it is, as the single biggest reason people have quit and not come back to Eve. (More people quit over the Microtransaction fiasco, but most of those have come back)

Right out of their mouths, at the panel.

You know, right before they anounced a record loss, closed their Atlanta studio, shelved the WoD MMO, curtailed plans to re-released Classic WoD, and fired 200+ people..

because theyre losing so much money?

Question: if they are failing why have they been around since 2003? Discuss.

  8. Had a nice fight and was actually worried I was going to lose my ship. After I killed the guy and looted his ship I had a rush of adrenaline and was trembling uncontrollabley. This is from the excitement of having risk/reward PvP. I don't recall once ever experiencing this in SWTOR PvP. I was actually nervous when PvPing.

See ya SWTOR back to Eve-Online I go. This is a TERRIBLE PvP game!

  9. 1: sandbox? really? cause the last time i checked WoW was considered #1 mmo for both its pvp and pve elements... and wait thats not a snadbox game.... you sir are confused! We dont need sandbox what we need is something akin to WAR where we can capture bases, and hold them for faction wide buffs... that isn't sandbox its all predetermined!

2: risk/reward is old and outdated... isn't a need for it, all it does is promote abuse of the system. Making players sit out and camp lower levels or geared players and take something from them. Now if you mean lose rating from loses? that is fine... but i think you talking exp loss or gear/item loss which is just a no no in todays market.

Over all i get sense you want a hardcore pvp mmo where death allows looting ect ect ect... juts FYI those kinds of mmo's always fail and very hard.

    WoW has successful pvP?

These MMO's fail hard? Explain to me why Eve-Online is still getting new subs and it has been around since 2003? Go on...I'm listening.
