  1. Ok to update for those of you who might find this info useful.

The initial request was straight forward denied and i can understand that and accept it, but as i got hold of the permissions team in EA I responded with the following question:

    Ok thank you.

Can you please tell me if it is ok than to make video's using the in-game footage for youtube without monetisation?

Also can you please provide information as to what your press release content rights are as well as the rights for review/commentary of the game in the context of fair use rights.

    Dear Heraseth:

We are writing in response to your request dated July 12, 2012. EA does not grant authorization for your requested use of our intellectual property. You should consult legal counsel for specific legal advice regarding your request.

    Thank you

In short trying to get permission is a no go and I found the response to my question kind of insulting as it completely avoided my questions by telling me to seek legal advice instead.

So unless you are some big name guys in the gaming world, I would suggest not making any videos using any of the in-game footage.

On a personal note I will no longer be doing so for swtor as in general it the fact they could shut it all down any second makes it not worth the risk.

I'm also going to stop playing the game as this was kinda the nail in the coffin for me. For those of you who have been kind enough to follow me, I'm terribly sorry guys but I don't condone the fact that users can't display their own art-form for a game they love by means such as machinema, commentary, hints, tips and guides..etc

    Take care

  2. So I've been trying to request permission to use the ingame swtor footage for youtube and every turn i make is either met with no reply or the following reply:

    Greetings Heraseth,

    I am Protocol Droid W4-T3, Human-Cyborg Relations.

I have received your email regarding setting up a fansite for Star Wars: The Old Republic.

I understand that you need to have permission from us so that you can create videos using in game footages. I understand that you already sent an email to Fansites@swtor.com but you have not received any reply.

For further follow ups, I advise you to post this concern on our communtiy forum and to send an email again to Fansites@swtor.com. I apologize for the delay.

Should you require further assistance with this or any other issue, please do not hesitate to contact us again.

    Galactic support is our specialty...

    Regards,

    Protocol Droid W4-T3 (aka Czarina)

Star Wars ™: The Old Republic™ Customer Service

So i am posting this concern on the community forum as requested. I would like granted permission to use ingame swtor footage to further make Youtube helpful videos.

Considering the fact the video's in general serve to promote the game i can't see why this is taking weeks for a decent/any response, Hell even a response of "we are looking into it and it might talk some time" would be nice!

  3. Hey all

Next and probably final pvp video up for the time being.

I ran with the rage spec for this one, again isn't soo much a display of skill as its designed to be a fun watch

But as i know this forum a little too well....*equips flame resistant suit* :rak_03:

    hope you enjoy

ps if you missed my anni vid its here -

  4. 3rd instalment up on

I'll do what I can to continue this

Put in a segment to the tor-fashion website, great job on that guys.

If there is a section you lot would like to see covered, please let me know in this post, i'll be monitoring and updating over the coming weeks.

  5. Hey guys.

Starting up my next community driven series, this one is to give opinion and news and events type of thing.

Will be every mon and fri - touch wood.

Was thinking of calling it the (Whis) series, what do think? maybe too close reference to taking a wiz? hmm

anyway link is here - http://:

  6. I LOVE new and exciting thread topics, sadly this is neither...

While this maybe the case, I am a player more then a forum reader, i check maybe once/twice a week and before posting this I also went through the dev tracker to see if there was a scrap of info on this subject.

If many posts have been made on this already, then why has it not been addressed? in talk and action.

  7. Ok the game is pushing 6months in age and my own patience is wearing thin.

I understand that content and new features take time to code and create, but why exactly is it taking months to fix an issue which could have been fixed months ago.

I'm talking about direct server merging, as in taking all characters from one server and putting them on to another.

Shut the servers down for 2 days, w/e it takes, you've granted us all of this free time, use it.

Make the game a better place!

Now for those of you about to say this is coming in 1.3, tmk This is NOT what is coming and what is coming is the cross server lfg tool.

And while this will be a welcome tool to many, this in short does not fix the community server problems, in that low populations have more specific effects, most of you know what these are.. general chat, trade, auction, and people willing to do said instances... right now each server i log on to has 100-200 people, 50 of which maybe active in fleets. Surly you can see this is a problem that a cross server tool won't fix

Time to shut down half your servers bioware, put them on standby, whatever... get the community togeather.. And as much as a complaint this is, i would still much rather have 20 min ques then log into ghost towns.

  8. How is my attitude childish? The 1st 2 responses were : "Turned off after u clicked FS (which i never did), and a CC breaker. The 2nd was "LOL INTRO", Im sorry but that seems a bit childish... Im not attempting to cause drama in any way, merely responding as i see fit. Why because of a valor rank am i not allowed to use my mouse? Im not in there backpedaling and clicking every ability, i occasionally click a button yes... As another note, these comments were made after watching maybe 45 seconds out of 10 minutes? Im all for criticism, but atleast state it intelligently. So by disregarding 9 1/2 minutes worth of footage, and making a comment on the first 45 seconds is a productive way to make assumptions on someones playstyle?

It childish because people attacking the "video" forced you to respond to attack the "person". Yes its your work and your time put into it, but as a creator, taking on-board some criticism can be very helpful, as well as knowing when to not waste time with people trolling because all your doing is feeding them.

For reference I never said you couldn't use the mouse and I personally think its fine to do so.

I am only trying to clarify why some people out there will feel the need to respond in such a kind, which is especially due to the high expectations these days people have when it comes to Pvp video's. To combat this, a little research can go a long way. Finding out what the larger majority are interested in and think about why, followed by adapting in your own personality to make your video unique.

For a first time video I definitely give you props, jumping into making a pvp vid can be very time consuming when you are learning all of the tools required to make one.

The music was ok and the play was fine and yes, you have a couple of ability's you have trained yourself to click on.

But ask yourself, Is it really worth fighting people over the little qq to get your point across? or is it more worth trying to improve that aspect of play so you receive less qq in the future video's?

  9. If you a really interested in an answer what the real reason is for the most QQ, including the perception that marauders are op after 1.2, the answer is expertise.

Though marauders had some damage buffs those alone would not have created that perceived increase in power, they where always a strong class, but that strength was offset a lot of the time with pve gear, certain classes profited a lot more from pve gear also a lot of people wearing a lot of pve gear got carried by that gear being better than the average pvp gear, for some specs like tank sins/shadows the pve gear was way better than even the best pvp gear available.

Now with the changes to expertise pvp gear is mandatory you no longer can get an edge by using pve gear, this emphasizes 2 things, overall class balance and "skill".

The class balance always favored marauders. So in a lot of players perception marauders are stronger now, which they indeed are relative to the gearing options and overall class balance.

Interesting view, I wasn't noticeably aware of so many using pve gear as a crutch, you also say balance always favoured marauder's, yet a few months ago they were deemed the worst class of the picks for pvp. If memory serves there were a lot of threads on this a couple of months ago.

  10. And you would be one of these good pvp'rs? Im sorry i have 20+ binded keys but im not allowed to click 1 or 2 from time to time? It seems easy for you to talk down and rant on about "Good pvp'rs", Seeing as we have nothing to base your perspective on.. Atleast mine is out there, its on record... Meanwhile you talk condescending about other people but have nothing to bring to the table, talk all you want cool guy but ive documented wins in 1v1,1v2,1v3 etc etc.. Meanwhile u troll on forums and hide behind your screen... Lower brackets of performance...LMAO.. Can't wait for cross server wz's so i can run into guys like you...

I wanted to offer some constructive criticism on your video, but your attitude towards feedback is very childish.

You want support from people to watch your video yet those who voice their opinion get a mouthful from you.

The title of the thread immediately presents a level of expectation from people. Such as, someone who's spent that much time farming warzones shouldn't have to use his mouse any more and expert lvl play is expected.

So for someone to state you do use click on some ability's, just sets an expectation, its feedback anyway you look at it.. you then jump onto this like its a problem?

Is it so difficult to say, yeah I'm working on that as I still have a couple of bind I need to break into?

Or are you purposely causing drama?

  11. Quick summary this is somewhat a video promo...

Ok in all honesty I'm pretty apprehensive of posting this in this specific forum, I just have to glance at a couple of posts to enter cringe mode with the amount of.... lets say passion that goes on here.

But I figure what I have got to lose?

I see a lot of post here now about the marauder being OP, but I don't see it personally as much as you lot.. maybe you guys are much stronger players then I am, but more to the point, why is it considered since 1.2 all of a sudden?

    I'll post 2 links.

The first is a video I created yesterday showing just pure Mara Pvp for entertainment and fun, fyi this is post 1.2 footage.

The second one I will put up is pre 1.2 and is a commentary vid i did to try help out some more struggling players with this class.

Now while i may very well utterly suck in comparison to you guys, I want to know what exactly it is you see different?

According to my experience playing (which is 90% solo BTW, I generally don't run with a team) I found myself in the interesting dilemma of doing far less actual damage in 1.2 then I was in pre 1.2??

Did I just drop a skill level?

Was the class always op but no one knew how to play it well and as time goes on more and more are learning?

OR did expertise do its job a little too well and became more readily available?

When I jumped back into 1.2 two weeks after release, I got seriously rolled over by every class, it was shocking, I felt like I was wearing blue gear again being in full champ. The expertise change from champ to recruit lvl gear is insane, Only now in full BM do I stand again on par with players and once again utterly destroy those under my expertise lvl. One of the biggest choices I had to make was.. Save for WH gear? or spend thousands on BM gear?

And i wonder how many are still in full champ with 3-4 pieces of WH gear now.

My choice to spend paid off, those on or over gearing me can still ofc rip me to shreds, however i've found more often then not I actually stand toe to toe with a good player of any class with full cooldowns. Those battles are usually within a margin of both our hp levels... So I would like to hear some serious thoughts on this, and given the nature of the forum, I will have a glance back here now and then but will only take constructive replies seriously.

Pvp is meant to be competitive fun, If people are soo frustrated with an aspect affecting their fun they are welcome to analyse what that truly is.

  12. "Something?" Like what? There's some things about game development (and software dev in general) that you are ignoring. You are also ignoring that Bioware has addressed the repeated requests. They *will* be updating the LFG tool. They *will* be addressing server population. They already said so. The fact that they haven't dropped everything else for 1 feature, but have instead worked it into the future expansion of the game is a *good* thing. Again, you aren't considering how development realistically works.

If you watched the video you will see I didn't cover either of these because neither of these are the direct cause of people leaving over the past 3 months, a huge majority of which don't bother to voice their opinions with the forums but instead talk among friends, family and colleagues. If the instances were fun, challenging, rewarding and took more time and experience to complete, people would find a way to get groups and stick around. Heavy emphasizes on rewarding.

What you have mentioned are the necessary actions bioware needs to implement to try keep their remaining low/med population servers together by merging them. As it stands, the remaining people who do still enjoy the instances can no longer spend as much time doing them due to having long wait times in finding people. I too fall into this category because the large majority of my own friends have left the game due to the boredom with the *existing* content.

If they say they will, but want to be sure to get it right, would that be enough for you for now? There will be merc commendations for open world PvPing. They have said so. But, PvP rewards are still in flux right now, and certainly won't be settled until 1.3. It's better for them to play conservative on the rewards now, rather than make a mess they can't clean up later. (I know, doesn't solve the "but my preferred method of play is best and I want it now" problem).

Unfortunately not, this was a comment on a general design decision which I personally think has cost them a lot of subscriptions to which I explained why. This however goes a lot deeper then I think you give credit for and not something that can be fixed over night or in coming months. I mentioned ilum to point out a reward system for killing players was already in play on release, that same or similar reward system could have been a base on players from day 1. Would it have made a difference to leveling? IMO Absolutely, it would have helped to entice world pvp, the potential for low level raids on enemy camps, more chat in social channels and more people making more friends, causing more distraction and time all during the peek months.

As it stands now, I don't know the effects of throwing it in for newcomers or people leveling alts, the sense of watching your back out in the open worlds and or any hate I should have for the republic as a sith is mostly diminished.

Now, I think swtor is severely lacking. In fact, the cooking thing? I want that too.

But you are treating this game like it's 2 years old, though. WoW, as far as I know, did not have *any* of the features you like in its first year. TOR has launched with as much leveling content as 10 years of WoW, in addition to an initial start at PvP, scavenger hunts, crafting, etc. The systems are all in place, and BW is building content *very* quickly. I mean, 3 Operations available in the first 4 months? But you want to dress as a rainbow clown, as you say in the video.

My point is, I'm not at all content with TOR--it had better not stay as it is, or I won't keep paying. But what's there for now is vast, and across this enormous platform, Bioware will continue to build more of everything. I think that if the only problem you find with TOR, in general, is that it isn't mature enough yet, then that's actually not so bad after all.

I think you missed or I failed at getting across some key information in the start of the video when I stated, the video is an analysis to what *could have* being done differently with the *existing* content and functionality to make people stick around longer.

I'm not looking at this from a direct *oh its missing this and that* but from a, if this was tweaked a little differently here and there prior or swiftly after launch, it may have had more of an impact on the many people who started and stuck this game for a couple of months but ultimately left.

Bioware made an amazing single player game, the experience leveling up was outstanding and I personally still enjoy the lvl 50 pvp content as I'm sure many others do. The real cracks only actually appeared at endgame and my view on this was simply to look at what they could have done a *little* differently to buy themselves a lot more TIME for the many thousands of subscription that ultimately left while waiting for content releases. I'm saying that they simply needed more ways to distract the player.

Content being a lot harder = more time to complete

Raid content being a lot harder = more time to complete

More unique items = more time spent trying to get them

World pvp incentive = more time leveling and helping friends

Trades being harder = more time spent on this

Dark side/light side points having double the difficultly for good rewards = more time spent

Ultimately all this and a lot more the game already has the ability to offer could have helped to sustain many many more people until new content arrived.

I'm personally not about to jump the wagon, I'll give them the time and money based alone on the work that went into the single player aspect to allow the mmo aspect to really kick off, its an unfortunate reality though, that not everyone thinks this way.

  13. While yes there are some who generally won't bother with watching video's or commentary's, podcasts, but there are still many others who will and would like to see a 15 min video, over hours of searching for forum topics for information that may or may not contain something to make them feel like they are not alone in thinking this way.

Granted this is subjective and i respects personal opinions on this.

Some here also say that this has been posted a thousand times before, so why hasn't something already being done about it? There are hundreds of working item models in game that just need a lick of paint and an ilevel change to bring some gear variate to end game while the designers buy time to get new and improved designs into the game, does anyone believe this should take 6 months work?

Why haven't they made it rewarding for players to go out and take part in world pvp? The implementation is already there, we've seen a portion of it in ilum, would it really take that many months to tweak this so those who are on pvp servers can actually enjoy world pvp and feel rewarded outside of warzones?

These are just a couple of the points i cover, The video recognizes problems with the game and offers suggestions to fix them, suggestions that are not outside the realm of reasonable fix time, some areas admittedly i do delve into would require quite some time to change, but these are the suggestive points. Like the space missions, secondary professions..etc

Last couple of points on the video, once again this is not an attack on swtor, those of you jumping to defense of the game i can understand, but actually watch the video before doing so, I'm offering constructive criticism to the game to help improve it the best way i know how.

If people wish to attack any of the points made, then so be it, however i will only take constructive and mature points/posts seriously.

    FYI! I'm Irish, not Slovene.

  14. Uggh I dont want to sit and watch a video of someone complaining about something that isnt the games focus. Especially when said person claims that their opinion is 100% correct when opinions are just that opinions.

Its my comments and opinions based on my own experience and the opinions of others, everyone has their view.

This video's goal isn't to "Just" complain about the game but to offer more suggestive idea's to fix it by pointing out its problems. As i've said, a lot of my regular gaming friends have already left this game for others due to boredom and that is very disappointing as i myself still enjoy it.

  15. For those of you interested, a new video is up commentating on some of the major problems that swtor is having in regards to keeping a lot of its initial players.

Now please be aware, even though i go into some detail over the course of the video, I am personally not detoured from playing the game yet.

I still very much enjoy the games pvp aspec and think its well implemented, my only issue is the lack of content in this area but i am willing to give the game a few more months to see what comes. :wea_03:

    please enjoy -

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BFlPcydWzLI

  16. Guy, i'm not as active on the game as i'd like, I do some daily's and pvp every day.

However I wanted to get the items from this event but I fear I will not be able to unless I spend hours sitting in the fleet infecting and so on.

There appears to be a flaw in the actual quest rewards from tatooine, in that it gives far to little badges to be able to afford more then 1 item from the event vendor by the end of the week doing them consistently.

Surely this shouldn't be the case and those who are willing to spend each day on the event doing those dailys should be able to buy at max 4-5 items before the event closes without needing to spend hours waiting on infection badges?

  17. I can't fathom this at all, out of the months of internal testing that had to go into this prior to even releasing this patch on the public test realm, not one of the internal team picked up this issue a grade A blocker?

No wonder people are annoyed, this is incompetence in pure form.

I'm a systems tester and if i let something as core as this completely slip through my fingers to the point of it being recalled on the last day before release... I wouldn't only accept being sacked, I'd hand the bloody documents to approve it.
