  1. Short answer.... I felt gutted, but im used to it.

EA's been doing this fore years. Buying up companies with strong brand names or getting exclusive rights to things.

Disney's takeover of lucasarts didn't worry me as much as this.

Im far from done with the SW universe at this moment, but there may come a day sooner or later.

  2. Since you've been here from day one, why are you even asking this?.

All the hype/lies/broken promises is to blame, and of course lately it's been thanks to the big momma of microtransactions.. EA

In regards to the whole concept of the cartel market: it may seem like systematic milking to many people

That's because it is milking and it's the heavyhanded kind.

  3. If you wanna learn your class, stay off the MAIN path, we travel that path as well. Hide away in a far corner, because we will ALWAYS try to bother a player. If we see you, we'll step in EVERY TIME to annoy you. We do it to be total ***** and to piss you off. We do it, because we want to see you fail, and quit this game

    Slightly reworded.

There are two sides to every story :D

  4. What are you talking about? [...] I think maybe you should get some perspective since clearly you are a bit confused with the difference between trolling and explaining.

What i see is people stating just about any reason, why they should be allowed to disrupt other people playing the game.

Its the "i can do it, so i will" attitude. Its rude/bad behaviour.

And just look at all the insults directed at the OP, a lot of it smells of troll.

But whatever, i dont really care ;)

  5. Once again the community shows how friendly and great it is.

Best to just let it go, fuse. They will just troll you endlessly.

But it is still annoying and slows down completing bonus objectives.

My advice.. If someone follows you, just /sit fore a minute or two. Generally fixes the problem(unless there's a lot of people)

  6. Yes, and the fact that people are complaining about the graphics engine in response to this just proves that they have no clue what they're talking about and shouldn't be criticizing anyone. Eric said it would affect game performance, that doesn't mean FPS. That means things like your inventory loading, the GTN working quickly, the mail system etc etc. All the database stuff that has absolutely nothing to do with the graphics engine.

    Exactly.

You clever guys(or girls) do know that the Hero engine is a full platform(server, client, netcode, editor, parser, etc)

not just a gfx engine, right? ;)

  7. We shouldn't have to explain to a game developer, how to work with databases, or how to implement properly working lasting solutions to problems.

Someone did explain, how other developers handle this though.

WoW does a better job of creating hubs to work around, and tiering their quests to sub-hubs in an area. TOR also has a lot more long term quests that you will want to carry around, things that WoW does without quests, like Daily and Weekly PVP and Dungeon rewards are tied to quests in TOR and in WOW they aren't quest based. I can't remember the last time I hit the quest cap in WoW, in TOR I hit it all the time.

To be fair to Eric and the TOR team, LOTRO has also said that quests impact performance, but so does their Deed system (similar to Achievements) and they give you more quest slots, up to 50 total, if you complete enough Deeds, which helps reduce that overhead. I'm sure it an issue in most MMOs because most of them limit your quest log.

Personally i think that a lot of MMO quest systems might just be poorly optimized. I've been told, that database optimization is hard work(time consuming). Particularly the load handling. So it's likely low on the list of things to be worked on, once they get it to a reasonable working state.

  8. Hey everyone,

We have seen a few requests since the launch of Rise of the Hutt Cartel for the Mission Log size to be increased above 25 and I wanted to explain why that limit is currently in place. The Mission Log, just like all other components of the game, directly affects a player's performance in game. The goal in limiting the log to only 25 missions is to help mitigate potential area server hitches and ability lag they may encounter. Simply put, players could see decreased game performance with a Mission Log larger than 25.

Hopefully that helps explain a bit why the limit is what it is. There are currently no plans to change that limit but it is something we will continue to monitor.

    Thanks!

    /facepalm

Hire better code monkeys, this isn't impossible to fix.

    But...

Whoever thought it was good getting the ALPHA version of a game engine, and finishing it yourself instead of waiting, was a fool.

  9. Ugh after 17 levels of the Jedi Consular I was ready to toss myself in front of a fast moving train.

Playing LS consular feels bland and uninspired. Not much wise jedi, future jedi master, in that story. Feels like the prequels.

Playing DS consular does give a few moments, where you feel like, you're tearing the jedi apart from within. Wish you could push that aspect further, but its limited.

If you really hated LS consular, try DS and troll npc/kill everything. Helped cure the pain fore me at least :p
