  1. you bring up a good point. I saw a epic pair of boots for sale that were below 20th lvl and the guy was selling them for a mill. Lol no way. If you wanted those same boots you could farm The First for a week and have them. On the other hand what lvl 20 will drop a mill for epic boots....laughable

There are a number of moddable lower level items that are quite rare, the target market for these items is not on level players, it is higher level players looking for a unique look. I have sold a number of rare lower level items for substantial prices on the GTN, though never close to a million credits.

  2. But see, that's the problem... it's either/or.

You cannot improve your gear without increasing the level of your character and thus decreasing the challenge of the content.

You have to make a choice between the two.

You can experience the content without the challenge or you can have the challenge without the gear.

The scenario you're trying to describe isn't feasible within the framework of the game.

Which is entirely the point of the thread, bringing a new mechanic into the game that means it is no longer an either/or. An item to stop or slow xp would do exactly that, though I do understand the problems that would bring in PVP.

Anyway, I wasn't trying to argue that Bioware should implement such a gameplay device, I can accept there wouldn't be the market for it amongst players to make it worthwhile, I was simply trying to explain the mindset behind wanting such a device.

I have considered unsubbing, but it is too much hassle for what is, at worst, a minor annoyance to me.

  3. But see, that's just it... you say you want to upgrade and improve your character but that's exactly at odds with what you're trying to accomplish.

You want to upgrade your character but upgrading your character makes you too powerful for the content you want to experience.

So if you don't upgrade your character (don't train, don't get new gear) you don't get much more powerful and consequently the content remains a challenge.

If you nerfed your XP gain, you wouldn't be able to get new equipment anyway so I really don't see what the difference is.

I don't really know how to answer this, all you have done is regurgitated your previous post, without really taking on board the points I made.

How would nerfing xp make a difference to what equpment I would get anyway?

  4. I don't understand this whole "gain xp too quickly" thing.

If you want to do a piece of content, just do it.

There is absolutely nothing that will keep you from completing every single quest on a planet before you move on.

But you don't want to be over-leveled for it so it's more of a challenge?

    Easy!

Take off your gear and don't train your new skills.

    Nerf yourself.

There's no need to make BioWare do it for you just because you lack the dedication to follow through with it on your own.

I enjoy playing through as much PVE content as the game can throw at me, I also enjoy acquiring new equipment and upgrading and improving my character. These are both pretty staple parts of mmos, no?

If you do not understand people wanting to be able to play thie game this way, and still feel challenged by the game, then that's one thing, don't go around telling people it's a lack of dedication on their part that stops them from enjoying the game fully.

FWIW, i'd love to be able to nerf, or even stop xp gain temporarily, I would also love the ability to opt out of double xp weekends. I also realise I'm in a minority in wanting this, so understand it's unlikely to happen, and don't really have a problem with it.

  5. Many of these players though are queuing up as tank or healer in order to get in group faster since as a DPS it can take as long as an hour to find a group.

How does that make it any less selfish behaviour? If you don't like the dps queues, roll a tank or healer, and I say that as a dps.

  6. Exactly! I have a new Darth , which I felt proud to achieve and she's still wearing the same old rags. I had looked forward to the gear and look when reaching that achievement, that is now gone and I really am very disappointed. It's not so much game mechanics, balance, dumbing down the game or anything else, it's the reward that is now very very un-rewarding in my opinion. So much so, that I am honestly thinking about just going free to play and use this game now to waste time in until something else comes along, the sense of reward is very much lessened for me.

Really? My Tionese gear was just used to get extra credits. Pretty easy to get better equipment soon after, and I think itt's ugly as **** anyway.

  7. You missed post #5 and #15. (unless you were joking)

Yes, I was taking the pee.

I never understand why people do that, clearly just read the op, ignored the rest of the page and a half of posts, and posted a reply that was bound to have been posted at least once. What did he think the rest of the posts were about, the history of the zipper? Some people just like the sight of their own posts.

edit: Other people like to see how often they can type post in their posts it would appear from this post.

  8. Yeah, but Alex beat me to it. Heh

He doesn't count, he wasn't confident enough of his facts in his post. :D

WRONG! So Anakin Skywalker's real name is Darth Vader. That's news to his mother Shmi Skywalker :p And Count Dooku's real name is Darth Tyranus. How did the Jedi Order let that get through :p. Like all Sith lords, Palpatine's master (Hego Damask AKA Darth Plagueis) gave him the name Darth Sidious.

3 people already said that, was there any point in your post apart from attempting to make yourself look clever at somebody else's expense?

  9. My main is a healer and I don't tell anyone how to play, nor do I care unless someone is stealing or abusing someone else in the group. Then I don't care what role they are playing.

I certainly didn't mean to imply all healers and tanks behave that way, indeed the majority of both classes I have played with have been great to group with.

Still, I have come across a number of healers who have told other players they won't heal them for perceived poor play or insults. I've never heard a dps say 'I'm not going to fulfil my role in the group by not attacking enemies' or a tank say 'I'm not going to use my aggro abilities, and turn off my tanking form', so why do some healers think it's cool to withdraw healing from someone they don't like?

Like I said, not trying to tar all with the same brush, I've a 50 commando healer and sawbones scoundrel myself.

  10. Personally I've stopped looking at what other people roll, either I get something or I don't. If I don't I'll always get another shot.

What this thread has done for me, is intensified my belief that a lot of healers and tanks think they are special. and when playing the game it's "their way or the high way".

  11. Sounds like you're doing okay. I focused on critical with my Marauder, then surge, then power. As you get closer to 50, you should find yourself adding surge and power to compliment your critical rating.

One thing to remember is that adding points past certain levels brings diminishing returns, adding critical past 30% (I believe) starts to become less effective, and the same once you pass 70% surge rating.
