  1. If you want to play a Juggernaut, then play one. Juggs can tank all content in the game with flying colors. Not only that, we get the best defensive cool downs of all three tank classes. We lack in AOE threat, but the only time that comes into play is with trash...and all i'm going to say is, its called trash for a reason. We do fine at keeping the heavy hitters on us, and that's all that matters.

Juggernaut is a lot of fun to play, with a ton of abilities to keep you busy. Two improvements i'd like to see with Juggy are AOE threat, and a pull. These aren't make or break, but if we had that, Juggy would be perfect.

I agree with the above and it just gets old seeing the same topic made over and over and over again.

  2. So since you can't control yourself for 5 or so seconds, Juggernaut/Guardians should reroll and/or stop being made?

Better idea: Give the tank a little bit before jumping in with your big shiny AE abilities.

    Yes right on lol

reminds of a joke; Young bull says to older Bull, "hey let's run down and get us one of those cows" the old bull replies; "let's walk down and get them all".

  3. At the top of the Sith Warrior Juggernaut forum is 2 stickied Topics with a ton of all around advice for tanking and non tanking; not to mention a ton of very similar topics posted by others with the same dilemna...

However; some basics, for you The Tank; is to take charge. You've got multiple adds to pull? Easy, mark them up and inform the group what the kill order is and what needs to be CC'd. If someone decides to not CC or follow your kill order, do not taunt off of them. Sure they will die but then again they aren't the tank. Inform your group that they need to give you 5 seconds to get aggro. There is nothing wrong with you establishing ground rules. If the group you're with will not help you help them, then leave, that group will not be worth your time or your stress.

Don't be afraid to use your taunts while doing your priority rotation. That's why you have Taunts, because DPS will catch up to you at times, whether some odd turn of events you don't manage your CDs correctly, like when your cat decides to attack your toes when you're tapping them to some Eagles song :D

Ensure your gear is up to par for that encounter, just because you're level 33 doesn't mean that your level 29 gear will suffice. Keep your bronze gear upgraded with modifications via your commendation points or find a friend who can make modifications for you, of course, throw them some coin or materials to help make those items.

You mentioned that you have your priority/rotation already, so I won't go into that and frankly at times you have to deviate from a set rotation and use a priority dependent upon the pull you're facing.

If you don't take charge of your group, as Tanks are supposed to do, and the group isn't communicating properly, then it is your fault that your run has gone to shambles. Don't be a typical power hungry person because you're in charge, be a leader. Stay calm, use resolve(and no not the carpet cleaner) and be concise of your intentions and what is expected from your group, and if possible; run with friends and your guild. Friends and guildies tend to be more patient with new tanks.

I hope this has shed some light and always look around for other topics of interest, you may even find your answer in some of these 1000+ posts that folks make of their whining about how they just can't play their class correctly.

  4. The only way I have managed to hold aggro in flashpoints and operations is to

    a) ask everyone to sit on their hands for 5 seconds after the pull so I can get 5 sunders up, then everything is ok.

    b) weave taunt into my rotation.

This appears to work reasonably well unless early in the boss fight someone crits, after the 1st taunt period ends.

Caveat: This is for guild runs where everyone is understanding and works with our Jugg tanks.

On the other hand in flashpoints with pugs. My only solution was to stop tanking with pugs as dps just either did not understand/listen.

I would set CC targets, set kill order: normal mobs 1st. then move to silvers, then dps down the 2 golds I have. I ask for the team not to split dps and to focus fire down the mobs so we work as a team.

What happens? DPS routinely attack anything and everything at random via AoE attacks and leaving normal mobs up.

Result, I lose aggro, dps end up taking a dirt nap and the rest you can imagine.

Personally I quite enjoy the mechanics in this game insofar as we need CC we need to specify targets, set kill orders and work as a team.

What I do not enjoy, is the fact, there are far too many people in game who are using their experience from other MMOs and attempting to translate it into this game.

    In summary:

Our threat modifiers, are at best, only just above the dps and healers.

Our rotations, if you can call it that, require us not to make a mistake ie missing a big hitter that comes off CD.

Communication is key, unfortunately people will do their own thing and in PUGs the only analogy I can use to equate with this situation is: Most PUGS are like 'Herding Cats'.

I make no assumption I am a good tank, I consider myself average at best. I simply try my hardest and do my best to work within a team.

Whilst playing a Juggernaut Tank and working with the mechanics of the game, what I see sadly, is a community who have become accustomed to a number of accepted conventions in other MMOs which have not translated into this game, yet persist in their application. to the detriment of the game play.

What saddens me, is we may have a situation whereby people will simply stop playing the game largely due to the conventions the game has implemented which have steered away from traditional MMO norms.

I am sure there will be people who will find fault with my observations. However these comments are anecdotal and subjective, and before my 1st coffee of the day.

I feel your pain about the PUGs and everything you've mentioned here is exactly how I work with my guild, I'm the GM and I've actually got a few players new to MMOs, which can be surprising; yet as we crawl, walk and run through FPs now, it's been a nice transition to teach a new player basic game mechanics than berate an elitist MMO player who simply will not work as a team to better the experience for all.

I don't run with PUGs and that may set me back a bit but at least when I can control the environment it's that much more rewarding.

I won't say that most DPS players are egotistical or simply self centered, but when most are not in a controlled group they tend to go willy nilly all over the place and then it's "your" fault you lost aggro lol

  5. I leveled as immortal tank pve build(single threat), the one posted from Phottek's stickied guide and once I had obtained Quinn I didn't utilize Vette; simply couldn't stand her in beta and the same in live.

Used Quinn a ton for mutliple elites and those occasional Champions you meet along a quest line.

After I received Jaesa I swapped her and Quinn out dependant on the fight, and I really liked using Jaesa as she will not LOS you when/if you don't jump smartly from around a corner into a pack of mobs.

As above posters have mentioned, throw Guard on your companions and remember that you can jump at least 10m away so you shouldn't have major LOS issues with your ranged companions. And must agree that spending some credits for some bronze gear for the companions isn't a bad thing; they'll still be wearing them at 50.

Good Luck in your leveling, after 2 Juggs, 1 Marauder, a Sniper and an Assassin, I've enjoyed my Juggs the most.

  6. You're not going to have best performance in this game with minimum requirements and that does suck, but I'd suggest mucking with the settings a bit. Not sure where the post is but some things to try are to lower Shadows(that will ease up the stress on your vid card) and ensure unnecessary programs are turned off in the background. This game is a huge resource hog at the moment, perhaps after a couple of months thing will settle down after some more patches are thrown out. Hope this helps a little.
  7. I'd advise to make a handful of alts, get them to the Fleet or whatever the Republics equivalent is and sell their gear, mail to your main, you'll have a good little amount of starting credits with little time spent leveling to 9-10 on the alts, delete or what you wish with them when done.
  8. I run a AMD 770 mobo with 4gig ram, a cheap samsung HD from an E Machine, 460 GTX 1gig vid card, all settings on high except Shadows is off and have found the game to run very smooth with no fuss. I don't believe our computers need to be god-like, just tweak with the settings and you will find a happy place :)
  9. I too solo'd to 50 via a SW Juggernaut, I used this http://db.darthhater.com/skill_calc/sith_warrior/juggernaut/#::ef2ef9ef6efe8fce7f21: single target Immortal spec, you aren't meant to do a ton of damage in this spec, you're meant to take a ton of damage and allow your companion to do the damage or heal for you.

As soon as I had obtained Quinn, I used him primarily til Jaesa arrived and with Jaesa by your side, you should smoke through content. Simply throw Guard on her, have her attack a non elite add, while you focus the elite(as you should assign dps in heroics to do as well) and once Jaesa/Vette are done with the lower adds, they will join you on the elite, it's just good practice to run this way imo, for when you are ready to play in heroics. Also I used Quinn when facing some hard add pulls.

One of the main reasons I chose to finish out questing with Jaesa, is that she is easier to not LOS, I found Vette and Quinn choosing when they would LOS me at times, lol kick them to the ship for a bit, then call them back out and they act according :p

I don't know if there is a better class to solo, as I've only played the SW Jugg, but hope this info has helped.
