  1. So, the real problem is what people are using as reference, not what names they are using.

yes, the problem isthe names they are using. there has been a global standard for centuries.

if you cant use n/s/e/w. go get checked for downs, you may have it.

left/right is dependent on your n/s/e/w relation. so either give left/right based on only north.

or use the standard that has worked since before computers.

  2. And other classes use hybrid, even the OP ones. But assassins? nooway, they have to go.

well the fact that assassin trainings 25% dmg increase is broken, and the recklessness charges being used on energize not giving the 50% crit dmg.

but the issue they see with the assassin is people building hybrid builds to make a broken class competitive in pvp.

why not fix the broken parts and stop hybrid? just really shows where BW is taking this game.

people aren't quitting because of a few small class changes. they are quitting because they have lost faith in BW ever being able to make the correct changes.

  3. Here's how fights against sages/sorcs usually go for me:

I start in melee from popping out of stealth.

The sorc aoe knockbacks which roots so i use force speed to get back into melee range.

The sorc may try to force speed away but i pull him back.

If the sorc bubbles, slow him to anticipate the blind proc (although I haven't fought many that have that talent for some reason) so that he only gets a few feet of distance.

Then interrupt his force lightning/pebbles that he casts to try to slow you while you close the short distance and then from there he's pretty much screwed.

Interrupts own sorcs/sages and my interrupt is on a 10s cd thanks to the avoidance talent in Deception. Add onto that spike (which gives them only 1 bar of resolve) and a sorc will have a hard time doing much damage to me.

try pre popping resilience before he does the knock back. forces them to use force speed, just hit them with the 4sec cc and that is wasted too.

  4. Just because you've some points in Darkness does not make you immune to kiting.

Thrash X 2 + Shock based builds get kited very easily. Healers, your primary targets, will pretty much always attempt to kite you since that's their best defense. To assume you can even get Thrashes in half of the time against anyone that's not a melee is simply unrealistic in PvP.

    force slow works wonders.

  5. That's if you're parrying attacks EVERY second, which isn't going to happen realistically unless you're getting attacked by a lot of people and you pop deflection. It's not a bad talent at all, and it's certainly far better than your other options, but the force regen it gives really isn't noticeable.

and like i said in my post,

lightning reflexes gives deflection a nice force boost as well, when you are being attacked.

  6. Defense and shields are different, but neither is all that useful in pvp. Though defense is definitely better since it's not negated by crits like shields are. Also it gives some minor force back when you're attacked. Besides, the other talents to choose from are all useless. You either take 4% defense (plus some extra force when attacked) or 2% endurance imo.

ya and at 20k hp thats only 400 hp.

  7. Oh, by more force regen you meant the negligible amount of force you get from lightning reflexes. That's almost like the build i linked except you too passed up the +movespeed from obfuscation.

About Darkswell, it's gotten so that your force cloak doesn't make you immune to healing. Since shields are pretty useless in pvp, it's a better place to put your last point than dark ward. It's really a talent for group pvp, so that you can force cloak when you get low and your healer can you heal you back up to full. Otherwise healers will try to heal you and just see zeros pop up, and they'll move on and start healing other people leaving you stuck at 1% hp.

ya, you are right i forgot to move those points over.

did not notice he put them there.

and lighting reflexes bumps you form 8->10 force per second. for 15 seconds. its more then negligible.

  8. I think you linked the OP's spec.

But i'm guessing this is your spec: http://www.torhead.com/skill-calc#200rsMokMcZhRrMzZf0cM.1

It's not worth losing the thrash crit dmg, death field, and raze, all just to get 30% more force regen.

The Thrash crit dmg specifically is just silly good and super underrated considering it's the skill we use the most. Raze is a little overrated imo but it's still pretty nice, and Death Field is awesome.

no i posted the correct one.

and this is from the shadow forums a while back

    http://www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?t=220727

  9. I really hope you're kidding. If you quit an MMO because of a build you do not belong here anyway ;).

if they mess up hybrids for one class they will ruin it for all the other classes too, plus i have a mara, sin, BH, and sorc. the sin is the most fun to play.

  10. Because it's the only profitable way to make a subscription game

The game industry doesn't have a hive mind, lolll... They'll do what turns money

But by all means, go try to make a subscription mmo with no time sinks, and see how badly it turns out

Oh and for the edit... Guild Wars wasn't a subscription MMO, and thus they did not steadily release large pieces of new content and did not have time sinks.

there were no sub fees cause they did not need them. Factions, Nightfall, Eye Of The North, all new pieces of content.

  11. Name an MMO with more than 300k current subscribers and no time sinks

    Take your time

name a game since 2000 that has not had these time sinks. the mmo market has gone in a bad direction. and there is a huge sentiment for a new style. just everyone wants WoWs money. so they think thats the best choice.

edit, and it is 3am so it took a min. Guild Wars.

  12. You need that gear treadmill to keep the majority of players playing once they hit 50.

and thats the core of it. the eq/wow type carrot on a stick is a poorly designed mmo.

its a crap game that needs gimmicks to keep players paying a sub fee.

    its why UO>EQ.

edit, its also why DAoC was so great. the game is what hooked you not the gimmick side games.

  13. Nope. Arena is not PvP, has nothing to do with real combat or real game mechanics and is basically a glorified metagame in its own limited rule set and world

People wishing for arena are all WoW players (which, admit - looks bad at your resume, and mixing it with playing Arena even worse. You guys dont understand that if you start any topic with " i played WoW and got XXX rank" you loose all credibility. At most people would laught at you, even WoW player themselves dont take you seriously)).

They want it in other games NOT because they want another form of PvP - but because they want metagame from WoW in same exact form to be present in SWTOR - and that combined with rewards and ranking system (otherwise you can just go out and 3vs3 all you like, my guild is running tournaments like that in BucsDen already)).

Its amusing to always read the claims that people opposing arena have no skill - possibly, considering most people never even tried it or cared about it, which makes you just as skilled as say... proffessional Toe Wrestlers, their sport requires a lot of skill and dedication too, and everyone who is not good at it or doesnt care about it is obviously a noob.

If you want PvP - do world PvP. I know you will tell it sucks, but i shoot your argument back at you and tell that you suck and cant stand the heat and just want controlled enviroment where all you need to do is learn the rotation and synergy and circle around pillar.

If you want Arena so much - you are welcome to go back to WoW. As i heard it still does have it.

Otherwise - dont come to different monastry with your own rules.

im a UO player, and the free servers now have arenas and they are a massive hit.

i quit wow before the burning crusade.

and WAR pvp was a joke. open world ring around the rosy attacking empty keeps.

  14. Just copy and past an old explanation I made about arenas:

    [

Arenas won't be implement unless their is an economic gain that is greater than investing in other areas such as pve or other content. Basically, arena isn't popular enough to implement . Arena advocates are a minority that can be ignored.

"it was something that we decided to start tackling because there was such a desire and demand to evolve it in that direction"

hmm WoW saw that there was a huge desire for it.

  15.

ya we get it, wow had balance issues way be fore arenas, the game was made for carebares.

yes they should have thought about pvp long before BC.

BW has a PVP team im sure they can figure it out. game is still real early. posting the same invalid argument over and over will not make it magicly a good argument.

wows mistake was bad pvp balance and arenas brought that to the forefront.

vanilla wow i was 2 shotting everything under leather armor with my rogue.

    1st line of that link'

"We didn't engineer the game and classes and balance around it, we just added it on, so it continues to be very difficult to balance. "

BW has a chance to balance classes. arenas weren't the problem. class balance was.

  16. i really dont understand how people equate extra gear to arenas. its like you think you cant have a hamburger with with out cheese. ffs stop thinking arenas me special gear. areas are just a test of skill at playing your class. if people were calling for special gear then you would have an argument, but noone is.
  17. Unfortunately I can't link to the Dev post talking about their desire to see pure specs rather than hybrid specs for end-game (mostly end game PvE) since it was on the old forums and those were wiped.

Bioware has changed a lot of their design philosophies, but I'd be surprised if they decided to change this one.

Ultimately, it doesn't matter much; just wait and see. If you notice changes that push players to go 31 in a talent tree then you'll know Bioware hasn't changed their mind. If you don't see those changes, then you'll know they have.

But, based off the Induction and Harnessed Darkness tooltip changes, I'm thinking we're going to be seeing those changes go live at some point.

ya wait and see dose not cut it. monthly sub fees and all.

i will stay as long as this still works, but if that's the truth, then they will be losing even more subs. i know a lot of people that are not playing this game for pve, and hybrid builds give you more dynamic to handle more situations in pvp. so 1st move they make to going to force people to 31 point builds and im out. and i know a few others that rock hybrids that will be gone too.

  18. Why do people not like arenas?

Let's ask Rob Pardo, the guy in charge of WoW when they were implemented and see what he thinks:

"If I was going to pick on a game design thing that I look back on and think was a mistake? We really never designed WoW to be a competitive e-sports game; it was something that we decided to start tackling because there was such a desire and demand to evolve it in that direction, to introduce competitive arenas. I'm not sure that that was the right thing to do with the game. "

Why would you expect BioWare to implement them more successfully?

    -Lens

P.S. For the whole interview, context and all, http://www.warcry.com/articles/view/interviews/6773-Five-Years-of-Warcraft-Speaking-With-Blizzards-Rob-Pardo

ya competitive pvp is what was wanted, and is still wanted by a very large portion on the mmo community . the fact that wow made an unbalanced game, for solo and group pvp, is the issue with wows arenas. that was known way before they put arenas in. BW has a chance to balance things and then put in an arena. but sadly they will not be able to balance a wow clone.

  19. Don't freak out yet. Induction still procs in Dark Charge. The in-game tooltip says it doesn't, but it's wrong, because I was proccing it a few minutes ago. Just like the tooltip for Harnessed Darkness is wrong and Wither doesn't proc that.

heh at work now, but i will be checking it on my lunch break.

  20. The OP is correct. There is no point in fighting for middle when the two side points are far more valuable. The speeder bikes on the two side Turrets reach the ground far too quickly. If you kill all the enemies at a side Turret and immediately start capping the point, they will land and have enough time to gain LoS of you (if you are playing smart and capping on the opposite side of where the enemies land) and interrupt your cap. And this is not even considering DoTs constantly interrupting the cap. So combine DoTs + Classes with Sprint that run in and AoE upon landing and it makes the side points very difficult to cap. This is a flawed design and needs to be fixed.

ok you guys must all be bads, this is decent strat for people that get wtfpwned. the mid and a side node are the best, if you dont die you are not taking speeder bikes. and to rotate to stop a zerg is better from mid to a side node, not side node to side node. also the mid can be guarded with 2-3 using the warzone buffs. if i see a lot of people jump off and go to the side node at start, and no one goes mid. its easy win every time. we get 2 caps and they get one and we hold the entire match. if you send 4 and 4 to the sides we send 2 mid and have 5 go help the solo one that goes to the side node, you lose. you zerg one side we still have 2 mid still and the rest go to the side you left weak. and you can see where everyone goes from the start of the match.
