  1. Let's face it, Huttball requires a level of coordination that is beyond most PUG groups. Communication/Passing/ and team play tactics are essential.

I personally am sick and tired of loosing Huttball matches 0/6 with PUG groups for the most utterly stupid reasons.

Not to mention that Huttball itself has a major inherent class unbalances.

Also, side question, how many here PvP on imperial mains.

Yes, me too comrade! I too am sick of being placed in random groups, when the sign outside the door told me I'd be playing with.....random people. Wait a minute, you mean we get place in WZs with strangers and everyone is expected to be veterans and play the best game without any variables effecting the outcome - but these strangers often don't!? Who could have concocted such a scheme and left us to our own devices to achieve victory!? It should be handed to us on a silver platter! I pay for this game dammit!

  2. Well my little innocent requester of all that is large scale pvp - there seems to be nothing on the horizon for large scale PvP. E3 was a total bust and even though a dedicated PvP team made up of the best in the biz were/are hard at work - the PvP game in general has never really recovered from Ilum. Case in point all the large PvP guilds on my server have either disbanded or consolidated into pretty much 4 guilds across the 2 factions. Rated Wzs could very well tickle their fancy, and mine, but beating my head around the same WZs we've played since launch save one does not sound as entertaining as the people at BW would have you believe.

Why has Ilum disappeared and nary a whisper of what's to become of that large chuck of frozen tundra just sitting there you ask? Well simple! The game's engine cannot handle large scale PvP. Yes! Of course, a game out in 2012 touted to be next gen can't handle something as complex as a gerbil running on a wheel. I'm serious though, the game is a slideshow and neigh unplayable when more than 50 players are on the screen.

So far be it from me to stop this thread from descending into forum obscurity, but I felt compelled to let you know, at least not this year, SWTOR will be without large scale PvP. 8v8 is all you're getting, that'll be 15 bucks please.

  3. I agree with this so much. Every week that Ilum isn't 're-released', just makes me sadder and sadder. I know they'll hold it off until some big game update, which is just crap.

Ilum should have been back up a month after it was 'taken down'.

swtor only has a few weeks until GW2 comes out. If they want to compete at all with a buy to play MMO then they need to start fixing things asap. they need to realize that WoW isn't the only thing they're competing against.

on a side now, how epic would it be if they actually released a realm vs realm thing like GW2 has in Ilum. I know they'll go the lazy route and keep it all same server, but how epic would it be.

GW 2 has yet to officially announce a release date, but with 2 BWEs down and a stress test we can assume it will be this year, and my research has indicated after July. Why? Because Gamestop said there earnings in the 2nd Q will be lower without GW 2, and their quarter ends in July.

I just don't get how having a dedicated PvP team and some of the best-in-the-biz working on PvP as the quote goes, and we have only been shown a new WZ. E3 had basically nothing to show for what a "dedicated" PvP team can do.

I know this thread isn't point out the obvious why don't you Booshido, but I think it warrants mentioning that we've been not only ignored but cast aside like a pet puppy who's no longer considered cute anymore. D'awww, look at those PvPers trying to get our attention, too bad there's this cuter puppy over here called PvE.

  4. You lost me at the words high quality content.

I don't object to subs, I do however expect that the dev team does actually work to improve the game and move it forward and eliminate the bad design elements instead of constantly putting out fluff content patches.

And this game has many many bad design points that need working on alot more than a additional planet or yet another flashpoint.

    My sentiment exactly.

High quality content is quite subjective, but my definition would be a game that includes large scale PvP (Ilum). There's another game that just had a weekend beta that's F2P and included large scale PvP (50+ vs. 50+).

So in that respect no, this game is not worth $15/month.

  5. Don't know much more clear I can make this EA will never do a F2P MMO. They are tied to their financial statements released each quarter and the more ways to squeeze money out of the pockets of the loyal the more they will continue to do so. If the business venture goes south they will shut it down coupled with layoffs and write offs. This is a business, built for business by business - and I mean big *********** business. Ultimately the Devs and employees answer to the suits with receding hair lines.

F2P MMOs are not push overs anymore, at least not the triple AAA ones.

If you're not asking why you'r paying for a game that's offering less than competitors who offer F2P with more things to do, then you might want to consider removing those Star Wars-is-the-greatest-no-matter-what glasses you're wearing and take a look around.

I too wanted this game to proliferate, I too wanted this game to succeed and thrive, I too wanted SWTOR to become the standard to which all other MMOs emulated, I too wanted this game to take a beloved IP and turn it into pixelated sex, but once the new car smell wore off, it was anything but. Then again why am I here bellyaching and not ingame? That's a troubling signal right there. **** the forums when there's a sweet game to play -- that I'm paying for.

From my perspective the game is just barely above a F2P model because of the IP it's flossing, not because of the gameplay, not because of the immersion, and not because of - oh I don't know - everything that makes a good MMO a good MMO. We play these games for escapism, and the amount of 3 piece double breasted suit smells emanating from this game defeats that purpose. Look at the forums for example, they're so squeaky clean professional and indistinguishable from a site like Charles Schwab. Ok, so that's a bit OT.

So cheer up, haters of F2P, this game will not go F2P because you got the biggest hater of F2P behind the reins - EA.

  6. I know I know, another OP healer going on about how healing is Ok, but regardless of my ability to heal without even a death in WZs now (most of the time against premades and pugs), I'm none too happy about having it easier in 1.3.

Burst can be ridiculous, but only if line up perfectly uninterrupted, or if focused. If focused burst is entirely ok, that's the reason of being focused, it's up to your teammates to peel.

  7. Oh how the times have changed. Once F2P meant subpar, now it's not only on the level it's challenging every successul P2P game on the market now.

I played a soon-to-be released F2P game during a weekend event, and this game that shall remain nameless was anything but subpar. I went in with dubious skepticism and left scratching my head at how it can be F2P. I will be no doubt playing this game upon release and I'm not against juggling SWTOR and it, but should I find myself playing it more than SWTOR even after the initial shininess wears off, then how can I justify spending money on a clearly inferior game?

And for those saying EA will never go F2P, yes, you're right, they would rather shut the game down: example Earth and Beyond. Tirion and Rift have low sub numbers and still are P2P, why? Because they aren't publicly traded on a stock exchange. Once this happens all that starts to matter is the bottomline and when things start to get hairy, the gamers are the ones who suffer. Make no mistake that if push comes to shove, EA would much rather shut the game down, write off the expenses for tax purposes, and lay off workers, rather than provide a service for a minimal gain. Welcome to the world of gaming companies - err, I mean corporations. There's a reason EA's stock price is sitting at a 52 week low. Don't jump to conclusions, SWTOR played its part, but its not the sole reason by any stretch.

Here are two facts: A previous Star Wars MMO game has been shut down because the company refused to go F2P, and a recently released Star Wars MMO has failed to capiltalize on an insanely strong IP.

Where SWTOR goes from here is anyone's guess, but the E3 presentation was anything but impressive when F2P games have more to offer - unless you're completely sold on spaceships and lightsabers - then maybe not so much.

  8. First, to get this out of the way, I really want SWTOR to succeed. Below is not kind words for a game that came out of the gates with arguably the strongest IP to any demogaphic, plenty of assets backing development, and strong story driven writers with previous blockbusters -- what occurred after release, well we all know that dead horse.

Ilum is simply a must at this point. I have already heard BW/EA are following a previously set content or feature release schedule, where Ilum is not a priority. They need to stop *** they're doing and redirect resources to fix large scale PvP ASAP. Why?

Simply because of GW 2. Yes, not that game again, but hear me out. I played the last BWE, and the immersion combined with large scale PvP will be a force (hurr) to be reckoned with. I mean, GW 2 has 3 server battles where you could sabotage, destroy walls, set up arrow turrets, ballistas, and trebs, and I'm not joking when I say we had easily 50 vs. 50 with no lag in either the UI or graphics. This is just WvWvW, with sPvP (structured PvP) in other words, WZs - BGs as a PvP option as well.

Already Rift announced their version of large scale open PvP, they see the threat of GW 2. SWTOR needs to adapt to the unexpected and I'm sure they didn't expect subs to fall this quickly. For what GW 2 offers, it's not simply a D3 where many got bored in 2 weeks, and to exacerbate the problem for SWTOR - GW 2 is F2P.

I'm asking myself why I should continue to P2P for a game that is not catering to the PvP even slightly. The Ilum debacle, Rated WZ snafu, and nothing mentioned at E3 for PvP besides another WZ. WIthout large scale battles, I don't want to ponder what will happen to SWTOR. Yes, the game will continue because fo the strong IP, but that's all it has going for it from a PvP perspective. I know, I know - All the real PvPers have pretty much already left SWTOR, however ther are a few of us left getting ready for rated WZs, but 8 v 8 on the same maps that we've already abused back and forth and up and down is not enough for us to stay while BW/EA prioritizes Legacy, dungeon finder, a new companion, increased level cap, and a new planet.

    TLDR

SWTOR needs to bump up Ilum in their release schedule because what the competition is bringing to the table is no joke. We're 6 months + after release and PvP has gone in only one direction - backwards.

  9. Perhaps you could......skip nights? If you can't stand not to finish some of the dailies on the nights you do them? SWTOR is no better or worse than any other MMO as far as grinding is concerned, frankly, the dailies are dead easy to get money from if you want to fund something, and while I wouldn't object to additional, more dynamic content at all, I think they have bigger things to work on initially. It was enough they've already added one daily zone in. An inability to ignore optional content once you've started it is not exactly the fault of the game publisher. The rest of us never feel the need to spend 3-6 hours a day grinding.

So your point is to take it easy and skip grinding in general for the optional content?

This begs the questions: What optional content? SWTOR is a grind-heavy game from the ground up. PvP? Grind. PvE? Grind. About the only thing to do is go datacron hunting, which does not fit the definition of content worthy to pay $15/month for.

Bottomline: Dailies are so 2006. Why do people P2P a game that gives repetitive content that feels like a second job?

I think PvP is still fun, which is the only reason I still log on, but this optional content I've found is nonexistent.

  10. On release my OP healer was good, 1.2 he got easier to play and almost unkillable. I can't count how many WZs ended with me sitting at 500k healing average and 0 deaths.

The 6% nerf is not AC breaking, and our healing output remains the same on everyone else. Since burst is being nerfed, OPs are still in a good place. I was Biochem which is getting nerfed, but TBH I used my power adrenals for offense (right before an orbital strike) instead of to heal (most of the time).

  11. It's 2012. Why is this still coming up as a debatable topic is beyond me.

To sum it up, should you backpeddle?

Long answer no with an if, short answer yes with a but...

  12. Not

    enough

    BW/EA.

Not impressed at all. Instead of going back to the basics and make a fun game from the core of the gameplay, you're adding more "content" that will be run through quickly and we're back to square one. Look at the state of the game today, look what the game offers, then look at what was announced at E3. Nothing stands out as unique.

New planet? Same as the old ones? Digest the content, move on, never have a reason to go back? Players will leave.

New WZ? One new WZ, one - as in, PvP is still just a side attraction. Ok, players will leave.

New Op? Cool, farmed quickly and players will be wondering what's next and they will leave.

New level cap? Ok this one is always high on the list of player's requests!

New companion? Ok, now this is going to get people to stay rather than adding long lasting changes to an already waning population. This time around people will surely stay for a new companion!

New species? I hope it gets more appearance customization than the previous species.

New space mission? One?!? Are you joking? If you think the game is getting deserted you should see space...I WANT TO EXPLORE SPACE NOT RIDE A ROLLER-COASTER 1,000 TIMES. Caps for emphasis.

If you've read that far, you probably think I'm heavily bias against SWTOR, but that is farthest from the truth. I'm being critical because in order for the game to succeed, it needs to be special - not just Star Warsy. NOTHING announced is any deviation from what we've seen already - NOTHING. Yes, it will have new skins on it, but it sounds and looks like the same old stuff. They're doubling down their efforts on what has failed them in the past. We need SWTOR to distance itself from being a WoW clone, not embrace it further. Raids, WZs, gear grinding, mounts, pets, instances - what's exactly different again?

Where's the vision that makes the game truly a unique sci-fi experience with a hardcore Star Wars theme?

Where's PvP content, since the Ilum debacle?

What's the reason to continue paying for a game when another game that shall remain nameless is offering F2P with more innovation?

    Nerf

My Operative Medic can withstand a lot of Mara/Sent punishment. The ones that hurt are in pvp gear as are the ones who don't. Gear is not the issue when I get jumped by Maras/Sents.

There's 2 Maras and 1 Sent on my server that can take me down quickly if I don't blow my CDs (I know their names). That leaves a lot to be desired from the many mediocre to bad dual glow stick blenders.

I've literally stood there and talked smack in /say to bad ones because they have no idea what they're doing. When I detox their dots they don't reapply, they don't snare, they don't line up their buffs, etc.

The class has probably the biggest disparity between laughably weak to immensely OP of any AC in the game.

  13. Yes up to a point.

1-49 bracket is fun. 50 bracket is fun. Rolling an alt and getting him to 10, Qing for a WZ, then doing better than players L30+ makes me sip my beverage with a smile. 50 bracket is still fun but the challenging players are not showing up anymore.

The problem? The fact that WZs are the only place to engage in PvP. You can ride the same ride only so many times until it's time to move on, yet you are told it's still fun and you should ride it some more.

I will continue to play WZs until something better is introduced or another game is released with a better dynamic of objective based PvP.

    P.S. RIP Ilum

  14. When Tor came out, it was definately not like wow. No LFG, No addons, No boring grind quests like kill 30 dogs and loot 15 tongues...

A lot of trolls and whiners at the forum, actually want Tor to be like wow ;( as they are bored at wow too and dont like if another MMO is better as their "holy grale".

The population issue is simply said the fault of the gamers themself, they did cry so badly at release that the servers had a queue - so BW wanted to help them and gave new ones... everyone who is a little bit experienced and smart did know that going to these servers will result in beeing alone.

My server had 40 min queues and is very healthy today.

    Yeaaahhhhh, definitely not like WoW...

    - Dailies for "endgame" content

    - Instanced EVERYTHING (WZs, FPs, Ops)

    - Talent tress with cookie cutter specs

    - Static quest hubs

    - Below average character creation customization

    - Sitting at the fleet/Org/SW standing around

    - BoP/BoE gear with the same color coding

on and on and on...WoW 2.0 with Star Wars IP.

  15. In today's downloadable instant gratification world of gaming, SWTOR was championed as the next gen MMO with the best IP imaginable.

Here's why I think subs are down:

1.) Gamers more than ever have an insatiable appetite for content. If you're just starting you're back's up against a wall because of what the competition has already done. It's almost impossible to go backwards in lifestyle, and a MMO is no different.

2.) Chasing the rainbow. I'm sure EA was looking at their revenue and then to Activision, then to WoW. Look at all that money rolling in from subs, and EA wanted a piece of the action. So instead of innovating, taking risks, and truly defining a game's place in the genre, they went with a WoW 2.0 formula and slapped a SW skin on it. Dailies, raids, BGs/WZs, 2 factions, BoP BoE equipment even down to the same colors for unique, rare, and epic. Seems like gamers are growing tired of a formula that's quite dated.

3.) Zynga/Apps/Iphone/Ipad's dominance. There's only 24 hours in a day and we only have 2 eyes and 2 arms. You're time is capped (even if you live in your mom's basement) and with so many devices available and so much competition with so much content, perhaps the assumption is that if a game is released without a plentiful amount of bells and whistles, you find yourself in jeopardy of losing your competitive advantage.

The gaming community is a fickle bunch, and we have lots of demands, but make no mistake that innovation will be rewarded. There will be a drop off of subs from release to a few months out, but success depends on the vision of the devs and execution of the team in a timely manner before it's too late.

  16. Shakes head, you are a WoWgen player, even if you started with EQ1. AoC had innovative combat, was more mature oriented, have wonderful graphics and a very well known story. Vanguard has more realistic graphics, an awesome crafting system, catered to EQ1 type of players with death meaning something. Warhammer had DAoC pvp style, it introduced PUG raid type quests (you know when you walk up to a designated area and you are automatically grouped with others in the area so you could finish the area quest, forget what its called) and also had a powerful well known franchise backing it. I could go on and on, everyone of those games now is fun to play, even after a year they were rock solid, but again WoWgen players ruined them all.

There will never be new innovation, there might be minor things, but alas mmos are what they are, and people like me and others of my generation know this. It doesnt matter what companies do now, players will always find something to whine about and quit over, just like youre doing now.

And I love how you dismissed Fatman, Fatman is what this game is supposed to be, with people playing it. The MAJOR concern by the MAJORITY of posters here is lack of population, which is NOT a Bioware issue, but a PLAYER issue.

There's always innovation, and the question remains will the mold truly be broken or is it just gimmicks. There's a significant difference between innovation and gimmicks. In today's ultra competitive market you cannot afford to release mediocrity.

If you build it they will come, not the other way around.

  17. Not having fun, not wanting to roll any more freaking alts, want to PvP but my friend's list remains empty because they aren't logging on and my guild had 3 ppl online at 8:30 tonight.

Yes, there's a lot of negative sentiment on the forums -- some are wanting the game to fail because they didn't get what they want, some are fed up with a game that over promised and under delivered, and still others are just playing the game because it's Star Wars. The fact remains, SWTOR is not increasing subs, the momentum is negative and will remain as such until either A. WoW's xpac pisses a lot of people off B. GW is a flop and/or C. SWTOR releases something innovative and original for ALL players (PvE and PvP).

I normally don't spend much time posting and reading the forums...I'm usually ingame having fun, which is what's supposed to be happening, and yet...here I am.

  18. I do not care about a *********** legacy system that encourages me to roll more gd alts. I don't like have a bazillion alts - I already have too many alts because there's nothing to do - I want to actually have some meaningful impact with the server/world because, oh I don't know, THIS IS SUPPOSED TO BE A NEXT GEN GAME.

Stop doubling down on a failed game aspect that people are not excited over. If Legacy is that important and the players embraced it, and yet you see SWTOR lost 400k+ subs, time to shake things up a bit or else the forums will continue to be full of locked threads about bon voyage.

  19. *shrugs*

At least it's different enough. I played WoW for all of two months. Couldn't stand it. I'm here til they shut the servers down, though. Doesn't feel like WoW at all to me.

    You're totally right and here's why! --

    - Grinding dailies

    - Instanced EVERYTHING a.k.a. theme park from the ground up

    - Talent trees with little to no diversity

    - Classes

    - Quest after quest after quest

    - 2 factions

    - Crowded cities, empty worlds/zones

    - Almost zero penalty when you die

I'll stop there, but yea nothing like WoW...
