  1. Yeah, because the good guys dressing as the bad guys is deifinietely not something that happens in Star Wars.

    http://webspace.webring.com/people/pa/adam_smith_010/fig_luke_stormtrooper_ref.JPG

I already responded to your unqualified gibberish a bit further up but had to repost it. To make clear what kinda 'I don't care' folks and their oppinions are destroying this game by letting the devs get away with crap like this.

  2. Not to mention, just because this is a Star Wars MMO doesn't stop it from still being a MMO. Pretty much every MMO out there has you go to location X then back to location Z to talk to NPC Alpha again.

Also, if they had it to where you constantly have to talk NPC's using your Holodisc or w/e it is called people would probably start complaining about that.

Plus, by running back to the NPC, you will come across more things to kill, and oh look MORE XP GAIN.

Yeah I agree there, but.....! But this is only worthwhile IF the areas we are playing in are actually worth exploring iE Rare Mob hunt, some special little places with iconic background(without being needed for quests, just for fun). SOMETHING that makes it all less linear and more fun to basically browse the settings. But nada, zip, zilsh....BOOOOORING! This then ends in a complete debacle for quests like the one described, because we all would not mind so much if we actually felt immersed in our environment and had something to sidetrack us a little you know!?

  3. None of this has anything at all with raising a level cap and can be done at level 50.

This actually is wrong. It will lessen the things to do in the game as it makes anything currently in the game obsolete leaving only the new content to do which is far far less than is currently in the game. By not changing the level cap you simply add more endgame content not lessen it by removing all old content. Like I said before the new planet quests to get you 5 more levels will likely only be fun the first time through and for sure be boring by the 3rd - 16th time I need to do it. It will take most people less than a week to do as well so that means all that time they spent developing a new planet is pretty much wasted on one weeks worth of play when that development time could have been spend on new warzones, flashpoints, and operations that actually would freshen up the game for more than a week or two.

I love you! You made all the points I wanted to. So you saved me the time. I remember how increase in level cap destroyed the 'magic' of WoW when BC came out. I truly can. And yes, I unsubbed because of the level cap increase and the audacity to charge us for ONE LOUSY planet. This game does not endorse exploration in any shape or form and thus is not worth playing anymore. They just mzake the same mistakes as Blizzard.

  4. This reminds me of the madness that is the end of act 1 for most classes - finish alderaan, speak to storyline quest giver (Baras/Zash/Garza etc) via holo on ship - go back to capital planet for full debrief, sent to fleet for "legacy reward" then back to ship, back to capital planet, then off to either a ship or previously visited planet for a mini-mission, then back to capital planet - back to ship then finally told to go to Taris/Balmorra. S'verging on ridiculous

Then there is that! Well written!

  5. OP, have you experienced the joys of travelling to a new planet yet?

    • Loading screen to hangar
    • Loading screen to board ship
    • Loading screen to depart ship into an airlock passage
    • Loading screen to an orbital station
    • Loading screen to board shuttle to planet

    It's crazy

Then there is the joy of travelling miles into an operations map - literally an hour or two real time - dying and finding your character respawning outside the map

(Your writing is great by the way).

I do 100% agree with the OP and with YOU! And there is more that annoys and has nothing to do with fun anymore. It's all about money. Why for example do we have to buy adaptive gear with real dollars to look like a Jedi/Sith/Smuggler/Agent etc? Why? Why is this not earnable? Why is it that we can now all run around as Jedi for example crossdresed in Jugg armor? THIS IS ALL WRONG!!!! This (and countless other issues)destroyed the game for me. Where are the epic stories of the SW universe? Why Rakghouls(Zombies) for a whole event back in the day, why now the Gree? NOONE that likes 'TRUE' SW could give a damn.

Let me add to my grief the ridiculousness of 'catering for PvP' via Expertise. Sorry they got so much wrong now, that is not fixable anymore. And to knock the bottom out of the keg: The 'Expansion'! ONE planet? 5 levels cap increase rendering all you worked before totally useless-ala WoW when BC hit? What a disaster. Why raising the level cap? More content and better(different stats) Level 50 gear is good enough or how about skills you can earn/find? Now there is an idea. Now it will all become ridiculous. It is one thing to make a mistake it is another to just repeat them. And then having the AUDACITY to charge 20 bucks for it, when they raked MILLIONS in from the lousy cartel market. Sorry I am done. This is not BioWare anymore. This is not SW anymore! I wonder if it ever was?! It did not capture the feel of KotoR or the canon one second anyways. And the instanced world, let's all face it-is small, boring and not worth exploring. There are no surprises, no hidden bits-leaves me with NOTHING I want to return to. Unsubbed again and this time it will stay this way. I can now imagine why Ray Muzyka and Greg Zeschuk left. I really can. Thanks EA, well done. Another franchise obliterated. Baaah!

  6. Aliasing = stair stepping of angled lines drawn on visually descrete pixels.

Anti-aliasing = blurring of screen (more or less) to hide the stair stepping, generally at the cost of noticeable frame rate.

Personally, I always turn AA off. My monitor's pixel size is small enough that I don't notice the aliasing, so no reason to waste frame rate on trying to remove it.

But thanks for the thread, went in, and apparently the default on my system was "High". Could explain a few things.

Then you Sir are either blind, technically ignorant or elsewise. Turn AA off LMAO. I remember arguments like that from the past when people said: 'I do not need AA I have 1280x1024 resolution. Why would I need AA?'

Sorry makes me crack up to this day. Hearing it here and now is rather.....retro.

    Take care and have fun.

  7. Sin tanking will allow you to plow through content easily, especially once you get tanking gear and your healer. Hybrid builds are for pvp only. Most people go 31 up the tanking tree and 10 into madness. creating a 31/0/10 build.

Hmmm......yes and no. The question I have for the OP is this: Do you intend to plow through mobs when levelling and expect mobs 2 levels lower or so to die superquick and you can just fly through quests?

In which case you want Deception. And you want to stack Willpower/Crit/Accuracy. The talk of you having a hard time getting behind the mob in PvE to maul hard is total rubbish. Just legslash/Electrocute the mob be quick and voila. For a hard DPS rotation in which you have the aggro Maul has no impact anyways. Comments like that are just silly.

A lot depends on your playstyle. Mine is the above. I love killing lots quickly. Even if I have to rest every now and then. :)

    Peace.

    Mark

Well done!!

(bitte entschuldigt mein leicht gestelztes Deutsch. Zu lange fern der Heimat :) Frohes Neues from Down Under)

  9. Stopped playing about 3 months ago. Was pretty active up until that time from CBT. I'm curious to see how this whole thing plays out but I'm not terribly optimistic...

With you on that one 100%. F2P is the best way to advertise/garbage out a premium title. Should not be the case. It will be total crap you watch. I stopped playing a while back due to professional commitments and such and was thinking that after a year I would return this holiday season now I hear about this F2P nonsense. Awesome. Not!

Well new folks....nice....but those are the ones that cannot bring up 15 lousy bucks a month. Well that bodes well does it not?

Yeah yeah.......I am back with my usual jadedness. So what? It is the truth. And no matter what anyone says.....the BioWare founders left because of it. They did not want to have anything to do with this EA blunder. A shame they sold their souls to them in the first place. Meh.....I may just try it, but am not excited anymore. What a shame and what a lot of missed chances of greatness in the genre. On that note: IF the game would have gotten one more year of development and would be released right now it would have been awesome. A lot has been fixed I saw and it dies look MUCH better and the performance is improved also. I wished I had that a year ago when the flame of the Republic burnt strong within. Peace.

  10. And the main issue for us here in Aussie is the fact, that all downtimes are in perfect primetime at ANY day of the week. Typically taking place between 5pm-9pm TUesdays and to top it off nowadays with more and more incidences of a FRIDAY downtime to patch the patch that patched the original which was a patched version of the best beta client they once had. Grrrr >.< Yes I rant! Sorry...back to the point.

BioWare I fully understand, that games of a scope such as this are only hard to alter. Especially it seems that seemingly totally unrelated functions/features are impacted if any one is 'patched/altered'. You often seem to release patches untested or poorly tested. The additional downtimes are testimony to that. Overall you need to not only deliver now-now you HAVE TO ROCK everyone with the next major patch or risk loosing a critical volume of players-thus severely darkening any good looking future perspectives for SWTOR. This has to stop!

Get this: There is people overhearing me talking about SWTOR asking why I would still play this buggy piece of software? Yeah well.....that's bad!

  11. I'm really struggling to understand the viewpoint of swtor's raiders. Having come from a hardcore raiding background from vanilla wow all the way up to cata, i just can't comprehend your viewpoint? Is it really as simple as you want your high end pve gear to be 100% viable in high end PVP too? Can't you see the problems with that. WOW went through that exact problem and has a very simular system to this (which bioware poached i guess). It's a design choice. They've made two seperate progression paths. It's extremely difficult to have the best in both BY DESIGN. There are possibly a few reasons to this but I'd hazard a guess that it comes down to the following:

    • Strict PVEr's not having to PVP to obtain advantages in PVE.
    • Strict PVP'rs not having to PVE to obtain advantages in PVP.
    • Gearing up quicker, if both pvp and pve has the same stats people can effectivly gear twice as fast which in turn means content is cleared quicker which leads to the next point.
    • Increases the amount of time a sub has to spend to get fully kited out in both. More time in turn means more money for them (another months sub - nothing to do means no reason to sub).

If you enjoy pvp for fun or something on the side use the blue recruit set - it is what it's there for - entry level pvp. It's not the best but even with an extremely casual playstyle you'll be in full BM in a little over a month* and once you are in full BM it comes down to skill on who would win vs a war hero set (ignoring augments which is just another time/money sink). It's not a huge investment of time and you'd have a full set well before the next pvp tier came out.

With the way some of you are carring on you just sound extremely (it gets thrown around alot but im gonna say it) entitled. "I got x gear from y and its no good for z i want it to be good for z even knowing i didnt earn it from doing z" that argument is just moronic. As long as bioware always keeps a purchasable pvp set that is two tiers behind the top level pvp set it should be fine.

    * Casual playstle based on the following

    5 games @ ~80 commendations a game (low estimate) ~= 500 commendations a day inc daily. Say you do that 3 times a week ~= 1500 + weekly quest ~= 1600. Full BM is ~9k

By comparison if you played ~10 games a day, every day, you'd have your full set in under two weeks.

There is exactly the issue. How many players, that are strict either PvP or PvE do we actually have? Don't you think, that due to lack of population on a lot of servers people are almost forced to PvP to have some sort of progression happening? Now that would speak for having two different progression trees to an extent(noone and also not the OP disputed that btw. its the Exp.Stat that needs removal).

HOWEVER......it also artificially inflates the number of players dedicated to PvP. Therefore it stands to question who the designers are catering for in their infinite wisdom!? I believe that if you are a true PvPer you roll on PvP server for starters(those dont seem too well populated btw.). *shrug shoulder*

I am a firm believer that this 4th pillar MMO should concentrate and cater exactly for the PvE crowd mainly and design the open world PvP much better so that it can get smoothly integrated rather than having to enter these archaic WZs all the time. That is is soo oldschool and I would love to have some immersion happening there.

It is also not logical for a RPG that requires community to work to try and segregate people into two camps on a server. Sorry that almost infuriates me.

EXPERTISE KILLS OPEN WORLD PVP-A FACT!

And that is the true issue here.

  12. expertise should increase hp in pvp, this is the first game ive ever played where pve'rs have more hitpoints that pvp doesnt make sense to me

I tell you what does not make sense to me and it just dawned on me what the main issue is here:

PvPers vs PvEers! Don't you guys see that the stat HAS TO go in order to get the cohesion back into the server populace and remove the divide it causes. Some servers are soooo dead that this is something any decent developer should not do if they are in their right mind.

  13. Just wait a bit when you will need 2000+ expertise to compete.

Its a cycle that keeps on giving misery. Those that will spend all the grinding the current best gear QQing when they hand it out easy, and the have nots that explode on respawn.

In the end the only thing expertise really does is make the PVP game die faster and kills any real option for open world PVP..

EXACTLY. Spontenous open world PvP is what I looked forward to, but now its basically dead. You are sooooo right mate.

  14. Raiders of Warzones want to believe they are better than Raiders of Operations, just as Raiders of Operations want to believe they are better than Raiders of Warzones.

Fact is, there is no difference between the two groups. They are both PvE.

    Nonsense statement!

  15. I don't really understand one aspect here - if expertise gets removed, and highest tier PVP and PVE gear shall have similar stats (like in, e.g. Warhammer Online), won't the PVE geared player have just equal chances in PVP to the PVP geared players ? Furthermore, such a player (at least in opinion of the majority) should lack in skill and experience in PVP, so he/she will still lose ? What's there to worry about? Sense of entitlement/exclusivity to PVP?

100% spot on! The point is that PvP ganksters like to have the advantage over the casual PvPer and love fluffing egos with killing those in two shots. That is what this is all about whether the PvP community has the balls to admit it or not.

  16. This is pretty much it.

And a complete failure. I don't think any MMORPG should be trying to balance PvP vs PvE. It essentially is a PvE game in that case. No gear attached to PvP and period. Problem solved. If you do not like to do FPs or OPS you should look for a different game or genre. IF the game started off as a MMOPVP ala Warhammer you mayyyyybe would have had a point.

THe fact is that PvPers are usually the loudest on forums to complain about **** and thus get heard by the devs. They should stop catering for those and make sure the vision they had for the game as a whole is maintained. Right now it is not.

Don't like the opinion dear PvP community. I could not care less. Fact is that I like to PvP in WARZONES sometimes and right now its not fun. This is what this is all about-fun for ALL not some elitist group of ganksters. Bah. I had enough of all this rubble talk really.

  17. Naw. Me and a bunch of 50s tried to do HM FE wearing PVP gear last night and we got steamrolled. We could not finish. Embarassing.

We can easily do HMs in Recruit outfits. THAT is emberassing. For BioWare. The game was quite good the way it was before 1.2 gameplaywise. THey should not have touched it. Just add the technical features and the content and all would have been fine.
