  1. Hey folks,

For the question at hand about why equipment was removed from various vendors, this is due primarily to stat changes. With the release of Fallen Empire, we essentially made that gear obsolete due to the new stat configurations and formulas. This meant the best option was to remove those items. Obviously, this raises the main concern of the support call which is the appearances of those armor sets.

The dev team informs us that virtually all of the core armor appearances previously on those vendors can still be located throughout the game. The majority of the old armor sets can be found via Crafting rewards, Missions, and Heroic Mission rewards. Now, there may be some variants of these core armor sets which are no longer available, but we’ll adjust that over time and slowly re-add pieces. If there are specific armor sets that can no longer be found, send the information to the Community Team and we’ll pass it along.

Taking a bite out of the people who can help with getting you back into the game, helping you restore missing items or characters, and addressing any billing issues, really isn’t a good use of your time, or theirs. As a general note, if you guys have feedback or questions about design decisions or development philosophy, come to the forums and raise it here. Going to Customer Support is not the correct place for that (and we will ask CS agents to direct you appropriately).

Thank you all for your understanding and hope that clears up any confusion on the issue.

I'm sorry Musco, but that's possibly one of the most condescending posts I've seen from a CM in a long time. You unilaterally, and without warning, decided to remove an overwhelming number of item appearances (both armor and weapon) from the game. Then, when your playerbase (understandably) freaks out about it, you turn around and effectively tell them to shut up.

I'm not every expecting to see any of those items again. At least, not outside of the CM paywall. I may be a huge fan of the story in KotFE, but the manner in which this large scale alteration of the gearing and appearance game has occurred has me reconsidering my sub.

  2. Non-crit damage is often yellow as well. Yellow is simply force/tech, which is often shieldable (anything that isn't internal/elemental). Making crit damage shieldable would help, but wouldn't be enough. Also, it would alter the balance of DPS classes oriented around auto-crit attacks.

It would also change the way combat rolling functions on a fundamental level. Shield and Crit are opposing outcomes of the same roll if memory serves. By definition they can't occur at the same time.

That's not a reason in and of itself not to look at the idea, but it's going to have extremely far reaching consequences.

  3. Time to contribute a few anecdotes of hilarity...

Story mode Taral V. Got paired with a Guardian Tank who clearly had no idea what he was doing. No taunts, pretty much only used Slash and Sundering Strike, but had a very regular habit of running out to use Force Leap every time it was on CD. You could set your watch by it.

Fortunately I (Vigilance Guardian) was overgeared enough, and the Scoundrel healing us was more than capable, so we powered through it. Cut to the end boss, and the Strength saber drops. It being an actual upgrade for me (mods-wise at least), I needed and won. The tank threw a tantrum about how I "stole it from him" then decided he was going to sit just outside the conversation circle in protest.

We asked him to step inside. He refused. We shrugged, vote-kicked and went on our way. Apparently he then went on to keep ranting in Zone chat in the fleet about my saber stealing. I gave it no thought, and kept going.

Fast forward a day, Cademimu. I get paired with the same Tank and same DPS (was a Vanguard if memory serves). Tank starts ranting again. I reply with something along the lines of "you needed, I needed. The RNG favored me. Sometimes that happens". That seemed to silence him, and off we went.

Again, he had no idea what he was doing, and continued to do his little Force Leap dance while not succeeding in really holding threat on anything. Cut to the platform section prior to the Wookiee boss. Tank does his run out to set himself up for a Force Leap on the last mob in a pull...

Cue the Force Push, and over the edge goes the Guardian to his death. Vanguard loses it and starts laughing in group chat, Guardian pouts and quits the group. I swap to Soresu, we finish without any undue fuss.

I don't think I've taken that much pleasure in someone else's failing in a long, long time.

  4. what would you like me to explain?

I get it would cause problems, but having it where you can rename them woud only be cosmetic for appearances...not changed their base name id's....almost like titles for main toon.

These aren't throwaway pets from some other MMO (well maybe C2 is, but his stupidity can get endearing after awhile. Ok so maybe it can't, but I digress). These are developed characters with their own wants, opinions and identities.

  5. Ok, this is going way off topic, but this is inconsistent with what I've read and with what's in the game. My info is they scrapped SGRA before launch in fear of backlashes. Whatever. Back on topic now.

Audio was recorded for SGRs for both Ash and Kaidan for ME. The romances were scrapped, but the files remained as part of the ME installation. Ditto for Miranda in ME2 and some FemShep lines regarding Tali in ME3.

I doubt they would have been included in the data that shipped, let alone recorded, had they not been in use at some point.

  6. There were indications that Kaidan was supposed to be romanceable by both male and female Shepards in Mass Effect 1 but was scrapped before launch. Dialogue was recorded by Mark Meer (the VA for male Shepard) which clearly showed romance with Kaidan was possible. A modded game can open up the dialog but it is not 100% perfect; characters will call your male Shepard "Ma'am", refer to him as 'her' and in the love scene towards the end, your maleShep turns female for a few seconds. However, when a modded ME1 file save is imported to ME2 or ME3, the game registers the same-gender romance with no further glitches.

I was hoping that when the Mass Effect trilogy was announced that Kaidan might finally be available to maleSheps for ME1 but alas, it was not so.

Ash and Miranda were both originally written as SGRs too, but they didn't make the cut either. There's also cut files from ME3 indicating Tali was an SGR at one point.

  7. I would not know, as I haven't yet tried out any of the MEs yet. However, I assume Kaiden was created to be SGRable? Corso does not seem to have been, and we *are* talking about BW-Austin, not BW-Edmonton (which is responsible for ME). Unless corso already had an entire SGR romance line built into the game, just not turned on, then it's unlikely that it would be rebuilt from the ground up at this point, just due to the costs involved and the severe downturn of the population since release limiting the ability to focus so many resources into rewriting one specific character's arcs.

Quite the contrary, Kaidan (have to correct myself here, it's an A, not an E) was created to be the exclusive male romance character available to FemSheps in Mass Effect. He's the quintessential male character through the first two games, but in ME3 if you set things up correctly, he will make a pass at a Male Shep.

You're thinking of Cortez or Traynor (both of which were masterfully done by the way) for characters meant solely as SGRs. As for Austin vs. Edmonton, I don't think it's a manpower issue, it's a time issue. If they're really committed to bringing SGRs in for companions (which Jeff's little snippet makes me considerably more certain of), it's then a question of how long it will take. Mechanically speaking, the reworks they're already going to have to do to accomodate max-level toons is going to dwarf the time needed for specific tweaks and rewrites.

  8. Sadly for you (based solely on your sig lol), Corso would be highly unlikely imo. First, he does not seem to fit the mold; his boyishness is more of an "aw, shucks" country-boy type, not a bicurious type -- as demonstrated in his OGR behavior, as well. And with this romance, in particular, there would be a *lot* of work restructering the entire romance arc, rather than just flipping a gender switch. :p

The same could have been said about Kaiden in the ME-Verse, and yet...

  9. Quote:

"Unfortunately, this [sGR with companions] will take a lot more work than we realized at the time and it (like some other pieces of content we talked about earlier in the year) has been delayed as we focused on the changes required to take the game Free-to-Play. As we have said in the past, allowing same gender romance is something we are very supportive of.

Secondly, I want to reveal today that we are adding SGR with some NPCs on Makeb and do intend on pursuing more SGR options in the future. More details to come!"

The bits of info in yellow do support the notion that SGRs with companions are still to come (ETA not yet known) and those updates may be not as small as some among us think they will /could be.

Pretty much exactly what I was trying to communicate, except more succint, and color coded.

  10. It's sort of weirdly written, so it's uncertain if "I realize that we promised SGR to you guys and that many of you believed that this would be with a companion character" refers to SGR in general or SGR in Makeb, since that paragraph doesn't actually make any mention of Makeb and its content.

Makeb isn't brought up until the next, and considerably shorter, paragraph.

As I interpreted it (the entire statement):

"We realize you guys wanted companion SGRs, but looking at what needed to be done we realized it would be a very involved and time consuming process. Stuff happened (f2p et al), so we started with Makeb SGRs, but we're not turning out back on companion SGRs."

Notice he said "will take", not "would take" when talking about the companion SGRs (paragraph 1, sentence 3).

  11. Looks like we got news, not 'good' news, but news, so each person can decide for themselves whether to be happy with the fact that there is news, or unhappy with what the news actually was. ZERO companion romances, because of the 'unexpectedly large' amount of time to do them...when it's as simple as getting rid of the gender checks. Obviously most people don't understand that, the casual gamer will believe them when they say things like that because they don't know any better, but the bottom line is they want to give us as little as possible, and for us to be grateful for it. Every other aspect of the game requires no gender check, all the storylines/cutscenes/quests etc. are exactly the same whether you're playing as a male or female, because there's no gender check. Thats the way it would work with the romances as well, if they wanted them to. They obviously don't.

For the second time in about two pages, that's patently false. BioWare needs to deal with the fact that a large portion of the playerbase is going to be completely unwilling to reroll to experience SGR content, and they're going to need to find a way to integrate the SGR content into existing companion content at various parts of the storyline.

That kind of comprehensive rework, rewrite, recode and re-record takes a hell of a lot longer than just tweaking a few gender variables and pronouns.

  12. I think what he's saying is that the first run of SGRs won't be companions, because that's taking a long time (I can't help but wonder if there's an issue with voice actor(s) here...what else could be so much more complicated than the other romances?)

On this point, it sounds (and this may be wishful thinking more than anything fact based so take the follow with a grain of salt) that they decided to actually deal with the "post-continuity" issue.

To wit: if they're having to devise a way to make specific companions SGR compatible from different points in the story line (to accomodate players who don't want to reroll just to experience the SGRs) it's going to be a hell of a lot more complicated than going back and tweaking the gender checks at the "original" branch points and rewording certain specific cutscenes.

  13. Basically, all the ideas and suggestions we've been encouraged to make (into a void no less) over the past year, and it boils down to this - buy Makeb or no inclusion for you - so 'pay-for-gay'.

Would you prefer they had pulled a 180 and said "sorry, no SGR for you ever in any capacity"?

You're getting what you want, first in a smaller world-arc style romance (by the sound of things) and once they hash out and do what needs done to make companions SGR viable you'll get them as well.
