  1. This is what I get when I try to log-in:

"The log-in service is currently unavailable. Details can be found on our Twitter account"

"Twitter" being a link to SWTOR twitter account page... There is nothing on the page that suggests that there is a log-in issue. Anyone know what's going on?

  2. What is a "meme"? Apparently I am to see some kind of video or pic? Is that what I am supposed see?

Anyways, I hate it when people use obscure internet/social jargon references to something and think everyone understands it. What ever happened to just saying what you have to say and be done with it. Be clear and concise.

  3. Now this is where I have the problem. Men and Women in the armed forces like to come out and tout that they are somehow directly responsible for the rights that all Americans possess - or if not directly responsible then they at least say they are "protecting" those freedoms? What are you protecting them from? Is someone going to burn down the Constitutionif you are not in the Armed Forces?

I am sorry to say that but our "Freedoms" that you think you are protecting were fought for and won over 200 years ago by Colonists fighting on North American soil. They won a war and sacrificed their lives in order for us to have those freedoms - and to THOSE people I appreciate their sacrifice and thank god they gave their lives so that we can have this country we have.

You, on the other hand, joined up to go play soldier in meaningless wars that do nothing to protect anything in America. You see there is a difference between someone who fought for the RIGHTS of American citizens by ousting a tyrannical government and someone who goes overseas and beats up on little countries that have a snowball's chance in you know what of ever actually seriously hurting the U.S.

In summation, no, I don't believe that Military members are sacrificing to "preserve" some way of life - that way of life was preserved a long time ago...I believe that most military members are there because they either had few other options for a lasting career (as evidenced by the lowering IQ of the Military in general) or they just want to kill people...

I have been in the US Army for over 21 years. Am retiring next year. That being said... every assumption in this quoted text is so off the mark. The retarded idea that our IQ is low is RIDICULOUS to say the least. The majority of military members have higher education and various degrees. Ranging from associate to a doctorate.

Apparently this Trevalon has never served nor is he aware of the sacrifices that military members make on a constant basis. To include having our own constitutional rights watered down (military necessity).

For me and most others it has nothing to do with " joined up to go play soldier in meaningless wars ". You sir, have watched too many Rambo movies. Most of us joined because we wanted to serve this country by protecting it and it's people. Protecting our way of life... clue for you... deterring violence and war by other countries or entities IS protecting America. Why do you think Japan and Germany decided not to invade the USA? Party because the populous was armed and partly because of our military power. IE: it was a deterrent. IE: protecting the country from said war etc.

We serve so people like you can bad mouth us. We make sure you continue to have that right. We would rather you just say thanks and go about your business. We don't require your place in line or any "special" treatment, like discounts at stores or restaurants etc. All we ask is the people do not forget what we do and the sacrifice that we make (some make the ultimate sacrifice).

It sounds to me this person takes his freedoms way too lightly. To my brothers and sisters at arms...a heartfelt thank you for your service. To those 101 kickin chickens ;) I suggest you grab a chute and come over to the real ABN core... 82nd :p We will get you your wings :D ....

See Trevalon there is a camaraderie and pride you cant possibly fathom. The 101 guys know I am not disrespecting them, just having some fun banter. But you sir are a mountain of disrespect and misinformation.

  4. NOW you're talking!

I hate F2P. I hate the idea of F2P, what it implicates and I hate what happened to games that went F2P (like Lotro which I used to love).

I'm 100% with you on what you just wrote.

I played LOTRO since launch. I tried to stay with it durring F2P/Sub hybred. It just went down hill fast. I absolutely loved that game. TOR talks a good game about the so called 4th pillar...story.... Dude they have nothing on LOTRO. That game has so much story in it that it boggles the mind. Granted it is a wall of text 65-70% of the time. But hey what do most of us do anyways... we turn on text, read it faster than they can say it, and spacebar thru.

TOR didnt bring anything new to MMORPG. They just spent way too much money on VO when they should of spent it on various other areas of the game. The game suffers greatly cause of that.

I loved playing LOTRO, the world is rich and full, but F2P ruined it as it will do to this game too.

  5. Again, wrong.

The changes, the fixes and the bugs are what affect the player base. And they are letting us know each time what they are fixing/adding/changing. If at the same time they are implementing an X code for when the game goes free-to-play, how is that in any way affecting our game?

Criticize them for not fixing things they should have fixed by now, not for not letting you know whether they added a string of code for a future update.

It's been said before and I'm guessing it will be said again, but mate, seriously, did anyone force you to pay and play this game? There are so many games out there that are free to play (like LotrO) that you could have invested your time in. Instead you chose this game, knowing that you are going to have to pay for a monthly subscription. Whether that was something they were thing of keeping forever or they thought they could use for a while to make some extra cash, that is THEIR prerogative.

They gave you a product with specific characteristics ( you pay for the game, you pay for the subscription, you get the "whole" experience). After a while they decided it was not profitable to keep it like that, so they announced that they will change the game model. YOUR game (the time you've spent leveling, pvping and raiding with your friends) loses none of its value. And apart from past game experience, future experience will also be better if you continue to pay a monthly fee. Where exactly is the problem?

The problem is it's bait and switch. Your right I did pay for a game and a sub to play the game. It entitled me to everything in the game, minus expansions.. Your absolutely right.

But every single game that has went F2P model has screwed over the player base to include the subs, with the damn store. It starts out just fluff... then a few little xp bonuses or crafting mods... then something that was only able to obtain in game hits the store. Then they take somethings out of the game and put it in the "store only" catagory.

Happens every single time. Had I known the game was going to be F2P (which I think they knew all along, the signs are there) I would never of bought it and or subbed to it. The game could of been wickid awesome. And if you think chat is bad now... just wait till the dredges of MMORPG enter with F2P. Makes the head spin

  6. Conspiracy theorist much?

No they didn't know they were gonna go F2P. At least not so soon after the release.

They still haven't fixed the bugs because they are bad at their jobs or because they don't care or because they don't think they are important enough or because they are now understaffed or...or...or.

But to insinuate that they made a $150 - $200 million game all the while planning to willingly (and not because of declining subscriptions) make it F2P not even a year after the release, is just monumentally idiotic.

They didn't manage to keep the subscription base that would give them a profit and keep the game alive. They tried and failed and for some it is understandable why to others it's not (I still don't get it - I really like the game). They decided to make it a F2P/Subscription hybrid. Of course they are gonna make implementations that are gonna facilitate the change.

What's it to you? And what makes you so sure that those bugs will either be fixed when it goes F2P or they are not fixed right now because they could (magically) interfere with the F2P model?

Has nothing to do with conspiracy theories at all. Has to do with taking the blinders off. See things for what they are not thru rose colored glasses.

The game design in general screams F2P. Why very few people never seen this comming is beyond me.

    Lets look at it:

-Everything is instanced. How better to cut off people that havent paid for the content than to instance all the quests in some cave or elevator (to get to the floor it's on) or building.

-Area is so clostrophobic. Choke points everywhere. Again... an easy way to put up a barrier for those that did not pay for the content.

-GTN. They somehow can't get it right... Is this because they are idiots with master degrees in computer programing or is it because they knew F2P was comming from the begining and this failed GTN will make the store more appealing. I bet the store will be easy to nagivate with no bugs.

-Space ports and fleet etc... So much stop and go. maybe it is because F2P was in the design. You are on some space port for some planet... "I'm sorry sir/ma am, I cannot let you thru customs... you do not have a (insert planet) passport."

-Super Secret Space Project... I am almost positive everyone is going to have to pay for this, subs and F2P alike. "If you like space combat.... if you thought the space minigames was interesting and fun diversion... you ain't seen nothing yet.... Go to the Cartel and purchase a hyperdrive, expirence free flying space enviornment and combat." Then they will make you purchase the different space areas that you can go to. They will call it Hyperlanes.

-Little to no sandbox elements. Easy way to stop people from doing what they want. Player driven content in a sandbox enviornment means no spending money in the store.

Anyways like I said this game had F2P written all over it from the git-go. You would be blind not to see it. Oh forgot about the HK. First it was subs will get it free. Now it's... well we are looking into it we are not sure who is gonna have to pay for it yet. Really? If you don't know by now, your not very smart.

HK was delayed for months cause they knew since before launch it was going F2P. They just wetted your pallate. People will buy it even subs they know this. That is why they are going back on what they said. They are creating drama to make you want it even more and slowely easing you into buying it.

Open your eyes people. Open your eyes fanboys. The whole last year (beta included) has been a prelude to F2P. EA is gonna milk this IP and stick it to the fans and customers. And they knew it from the start.

It upsets me cause I had high hopes for this game. I thought it could be a real winner. Now I realize it's nothing more than a $$$ crop. And I would be fine with that if it wasnt so blantant, and didnt screw up the game and IP. I guess the lack of EA/BW caring about the game and community beyond the $$$ signs irks me. What happened to BW having some pride in their games?

  7. If the patches were for implementing F2P, then the patches were for implementing F2P. So what? I don't own this company, so I don't expect them to communicate every single decision they do to me.

When it effects the player base and community then yes i expect it to be communicated. But your are missing the whole point. The point I was making is I think they knew in development that they were going to use the F2P model. And that would be fine if they communicated they from the start. Instead they gouged all of us for money.

I wouldn't of expected it from BW. They really screwed their reputation over this game with their shady practices.

  8. Since the announcment of F2P one has to wonder if all those Patches/hotfixes/unscheduled maintenance wasnt for bugs but for the implimentation of F2P.

We all know EA/BW has not been forthcomming or completely honest with everything they have told us in the past. Gets me to wondering. With all the bugs still here from launch and not fixed after 8 months, and numerous months of beta testing... did they know from launch they were going F2P model? I mean maybe they haven't fix them because they know it will go away when they impliment F2P. If they fix them all now it may screw up the F2P coding etc. Just a thought.

It just seems wierd that so many bugs that people complained about in Beta are still here. And continues to be here. I think the non-regular weekly maintenance is a cover up for F2P implimentation. And always has been. Especially when they say the hotfix or patch fixed X bug, and the bug is still there. Then when you report it, they tell you that it's your rig or your router/isp connection that is causing the problem etc.

I think they knew durring development that they were going to go F2P. Kept their mouths shut to get people to buy the game at 50-120 bucks(depending on which version you bought), so they could recoup the cost of development. The game now sells for what.. 15 dollars. A far cry from the origional purchase price 8 months later. Skyrim is still selling for 50 bucks.

BW/EA dropped the price drastically in order to make it seem people are getting a good deal. Unknown to them that the store will nickel and dime them a hell or alot more then 15 bucks a month plus 50 bucks origional purchase cost.

In the long run they will make more money, and the customers and fans will be screwed. I call all this shady buisness. All you OWS supporters should be protesting lol.

    What do you all think?

  9. In short, the event wasn't meant for players like you. That's not your fault, nor is it the fault of the game itself. The only complaint I have, personally, was the abrupt end. I simply hope that they finish the storyline. Also, the transparent, "We can't get the voice actors back so we're just going to get the guy to say 'Stay silent!""-cop out.

As for the rewards... they're meant to be cosmetic oddities. And they are. If that doesn't interest you, it doesn't interest you. But that doesn't mean it "failed."

Well that is why I said it was my opnion. I am sure for people that are collectors, they enjoy collecting the trinkets. I was just speaking for me and me alone. For me.. it failed alot. Was not on par with the last world event. Last world event I had alot of fun with it. This one... well quite frankly didn't do anything for me. But if it was your cup of tea (nothing wrong with that), than so be it.

  10. I was nothing but an endless travel grindfest... and for what.. a speeder that is 90% and a few cosmetic items? I guess I really don't care much what my armor looks like to an extent, as long as it functions well for what i need it to do... IE: keep me alive. And why would I want my Jedi or Sith or Smuggler to look like a Tuskin Raider?

Anyways in my opnion... this world event failed on many levels. The Ragoul Event was pretty cool with some good rewards... nice crystals and armor etc.

  11. i said it a few posts up i think a will degined skyrim/oblivion type mmo would not just kill wow but dance on its grave questing was always fun in the elder scrolls (apart from when they bug'ed) its a huge open ended world there would be no split community due to 2 different factions you just chose a race and go play

and the PvP dont get me started on the PvP no more gear means win its all out hack slash skill with magic and bows to boot

Bethesda is publishing Elder Scrolls Online...

    http://elderscrollsonline.com/en/

I hope they do it justice.

  12. To reply to the post about the fleet and so many people on it etc...

Yes there are usually 100-200 people on it but ther is alot of things also not happening... npc moving around and or being scripted to do things when something triggers it.. IE agro radius and fireing back. Also you don't have alot of animations going on on fleet as compaired on a planet. All this is information that must be sorted out by the game engine.

This is one of the reasons most things are instanced. To cut down on the load and lag. Not to mention I think they fully knew they were going F2P from the git go. All the gated places/instances and choak points. Seems too many for it to be coincidence.

Problem with player controlled content is... there is so very few reasons to have WPvP... Not enough cross faction Zones. And the ones we do have have a huge dead mans area separating them. They need to make quests in each others territory. This would purpertrate WPvP player driven things

  13. Black hole is a good example of world PvP done right, particularly on PvP servers. People won't do world PvP if they either have to flag for PvP without good reason or if they have to travel great distances to get to the action. The trick is to make a smallish quest hub and put PvE quests in there so that people gravitate towards it, supplement that with PvP dailies are there's a good reason for people to get together and fight the opposition.

Getting world PvP to happen on the other planets is particularly difficult since the players have to travel for a good while to get to the opponents territory and even then PvP isn't guaranteed.

Personally I would love to see a new daily area on Tatooine with PvP objectives scattered.

Personally I hate instanced PvP. It feels so... forced... or artificial. Questing and having to be smart about it cause you may get ganked adds to the imersion and fun. To all of the sudden have a battle on alderaan/tat/etc out of nowhere is exiciting.

Just happening upon a force and trying to wipe them out... calling your friends up... "dude, the Imps are hitting outpost # 24, lets meet up by the bridge and take them out from behind. Get them in a crossfire." this is loads of fun.. Not huttball or WZ. So borring.

  14. Question though, what if the combined all the extra servers they have floating around to support the load, wouldn't that work?

As far as I understand it.... No.

The game engine can only support so much information at one time... IE rendering the planet and all the structures and NPC's etc and a few hundred players (whatever the number is). That is why even with only 3/4 of a load per plant the games lags alot. It's the engine. A Ford Model T can only put out so much HP no matter how much you tweak the engine. If you want more you have to replace it.

  15. The old-outdated game engine cannot support it. This is why Illum failed.

There is no way they can impliment this to work. Not unless they switched out the game engine for one not 8-10 yrs old... Then, what rewrite all the code... wait for another 6 yrs. You get the point.

They can only optomise it so much. it's like taking a 10 year old computer and trying to get everything you can out of the 486 with windows 95. Tweaks will only get you so far. You need new hardware and software.

  16. I am on the fence with the XP pots etc. It may not be an advantage, but it is surely a convience.

A bad convience. People that level too quickly tend to be bad players, especially at higher levels. PvP and PvE players that level too fast do not have the in-game expirence needed to play their toon properly. Most become anxious with what they do. The haven't learned gaming or toon patience. They played the game in a rush.

I say most, not all. This has been my expirence. It may not be the same for all that read this post. So you can't tell me that I am wrong. With leveling too fast people don't know how to play their toons... PvP and PvE suffers. Wipes galore.

Not to mention they miss out on alot of content. Then they complain that there isn't enough to do and leave. Taking their money elsewhere. This hurts the game and the community.

It's a steamroll effect. Causality... cause and effect.

  17. It was also announced on Twitter. Was not really kept a secret.

So what. Not everyone is obsessed with social media or a social media junkie. I do not tweet. If there is information about anything to do with the game, logic suggests it should be posted on the OFFICIAL gaming website. Not on twitter or facebook etc. If said information has been moved to a different area of the website, there should be a post that tells subscribers where the information has been moved.

I agree with the OP. For the last 8-10 months (beta too), this information about maintenance or lack there of, has always been posted on the launcher when you log in.

  18. People complain about Windows 8 UI. People complain about Facebook changes.

People complained when we went from command lines to consumer based GUIs. The reality is that Windows 8 is bloody awesome and the haters can shove it.

Win 8 fanboys can shove it. My desktop/laptop is not a tablet or touch screen smart phone etc. From all the reviews I have seen, no one wants their desk/laptops to be turned into a tablet. Its utter retardedness.

The idea of forcing people to use Metro on a puter is moronic. MS said it cannot be disabled, nor can people revert to an older style interface like Win7 can. It will cause people to turn to other OS like LYNIX etc.

From a buisness point of view... too costly. Now you have to take the time to train people on a totally new GUI. Time is money to a buisness. $ for new OS, $ for training (lost work potential and earnings), $ to hire instructors to conduct the training or $ to initially train the inhouse trainers. Just way to costly to replace a relitativly new OS (win7) in's only what 2-3 yrs old. MS screwed the pooch on this one.

Just the idea that in order to do something u have to move ur mouse to a certain part of the screen and "swipe it"... how friggin insane is that? And where did that actual "windows" go? From what I read the cascading windows or multiple windows on the desktop is gone. Switching from app to app will be a pain. If this is not that case then opps, tell all the review sites (PCworld and the like) they are putting out false info.

Win8 will turn out like ME and Vista did... a disapointment. Win8 is geared towards the social media... the all in one OS.

The only people that will really like this OS is the ones that cannot unplug themselves. The people that are constantly on social media like tweeter, facebook, myspace, skype and the like. The ones that cant seem to live without instantly texting everyone about everything they are doing every minute of the day. These are the same people that complain about their privacy being invaded... Hello... you putting it out there for the world to see. I once seen someone facebook that they were currently taking a dump with their laptop.... really??? Your friends really need to know this information? It appears social media has now ruined MS Windows. Thanks generation clueless.

  19. Will NOT be switching over to Win 8, untill they make it compatable for a desktop/laptop. I do not like the idea of moving ur mouse in certain paterns in order to make things happen. Great for a tablet or touch screen, but wickid stupid for a desktop/laptop.

Whoever thought this was a good idea, must of gotten it from the good idea fairy. Utterly retarded.

  20. As far as MMO's go:

Guild Wars 1... launch-2007. Every now and then i return. It's still a fun game.

WoW... 1 month free trial. They let me play for 3 months free. Hate the game. Graphics, music score, crafting.. sux

LOTRO... Launch-May 2012. Loved the game pre F2P. Rich world, lotsa story and background (tolkein fan since 1985), graphics are awesome, musical score is just as good, overall a great game. Still have the premium account, but F2P screwed up alot of the game.

Rift... cant remember the dates but played it for 3-5 months. Just lost interest.

Aion... Feb 2012-Present. F2P but am loosing interest.

Terra... Dec 2011-Feb 2012. Grind fest... grind, grind, grind. Tried to give it a chance. The combat was really not much different then a click fest just had to aim in the general dirrection. No real inovation like the game professed.

    TSW Beta... Wasn't impressed.

EVE... 10 free days. Was lost. No clear objective in the game. I felt that my only purpous was to grind resources.

EQ... buddy had an account. I made a character on it but didn't get far. He was logged in whenever I wanted to play lol

Americas Army... Just after launch-2 yrs ago. Great 1st person shooter. Have nothing negitative to say about it.

AOC, and a few other F2P and trial MMO's I have tried. I can't remember their names right now.

    Oh and ofcourse SWTOR... Beta-Present

  21. I don't look at games like that. This is entertainment and I'm in it for me. I couldn't care less how someone reached higher levels and I wouldn't even know how they got there. As long as people can't buy their way to the top in a competitive setting, I couldn't really say they "pay to win". Well what about P2W when it pertains to ranked WZ... If and when they ever come out? What about PvP? Imagine getting into a PvP battle and some dude has superawesomewickidcool armor and weapon that is ultra hard to obtain or only obtainable in the game store? Guy/gal is running around in WPvP and instanced PvP kicking the hell out of everyone else cause they spent the cash/tokens etc to get the stuff. Others that do not have the money or resources are at a distinct disadvantage.

You don't care what I think is p2w and I don't care what you think is p2w, but I don't think it's fair to hold your view as the generally accepted one and ask people to leave the discussion if they don't conform.

Dosen't matter what a single person thinks P2W is. What matters is the understood generally accepted defination
