  1. This is one of the reasons that expectations need to be tempered in general with MMOs. This forum is chalk full of relatively unrealistic expectations from a game that didnt follow through even with the initial expectations people had for it. At some point players need to come to grips with this.

I honestly see very few over the top requests on the forums. Most are generally good and reasonable ideas that often stem from something experienced in another game. Of course not everything is possible; but the honest truth is that this game is in maintenance mode and has been for many years. EA lacks either the talent or scruples to follow through on what is necessary to maintain a AAA MMO. EA is a disreputable gaming company with a well documented history of doing anything it can to make a dollar; including pushing the envelope of the law. In doing so it’s earned more than one “worst company in America” award. SWTOR is the perfect opportunity and platform to try and earn some goodwill back from consumers. However, that will never happen because....EA.

  2. Imagine the billions of bugs if they changed out core engine stuff and didn't rewrite all the spaghetti code that they've made to work around issues with the original engine.

Just look at the problems they introduced when they decided to make a percentage of exp earned apply to conquest too... There'd be thousands of issues like that with a significant change to underlying graphics/threading/etc.

If LOTRO can do it, so can this game with the financial backing of EA.

  3. i doubt an engine built in 2004 is capable of running anything significantly advanced like Vulkan let alone dx12 and CPU multi-thread support, that is besides the point, it would mean getting into the engine and recoding it to work with those systems and that would take a lot of man-power, resources and time to do for a game which is essentially not that well supported or looked after by EA.

I can't see it ever happening.

    But it should.

  4. Be careful what you wish for.

If anything has taught me about Bioware over the years is they do listen to these sorts of requests (just not this one yet). Then they implement their own solutions and not the ones players want or expect.

    Example 1.

    * Players on the APAC servers wanted to be merged into one super server, but still located in the APAC location.

    * Bioware’s response is to close all servers and merge them with the US west coast

    Example 2.

    * Players want mergers because of all the dead servers in the game

    * Bioware response is to merge the servers and move the west coast ones to the east coast without announcing it first.

I would not be surprised at all if Bioware’s solution for people asking for cross server again, is to merge both US servers into one server. And all the EU servers into one. In their eyes, the regional cross server problem is fixed.

Of course, this isn’t what players are asking for. But past experience tells me that Bioware will do things in ways we don’t expect or actually want.

Which leads me back to my opening statement. “Be careful what you wish for”.

    Valid points lol.

  5. Improvements?????

That's probably why my character seems to be running though water all the time, so slow it stopping me doing a lot of stuff in game. It was a round March I started having the issue.

    Right some improvement!

Not everyone has a top of the line gaming computer. I wonder how many just will no longer be able to play at all with a new engine. I am almost at that point now.

I can run this game on max graphics with a mid level gaming PC I built before this game even launched. No joke... It doesn’t take a $5000 rig to run; but it does require more than a Dell laptop designed to run word 97.

  6. Point blank refuse to except anything else. Unfortunately the OP's one of them.

I didn’t realize it was so chic to *accept* mediocrity or have no expectations from a AAA game company to upgrade the engine on a MMO bearing, arguably, the most valuable IP in the world to enable something that should’ve existed since launch.

  7. if you are going to lie then we will not continue this discussion.

TLJ made 42 million in china.

    we are done here.

edit: oh god you use superdata as a source for mobile revenue? the company that says Leuage of Legends is a MMO? ****

Not even close. TLJ made $28.7 million the first weekend with a 92% drop the second week to $2.8 million the second week before it was pulled from theaters.

You seem to have a tenuous grasp of what virtual goods are and that mobile sales constitute the vast bulk of all gaming virtual sales. But none of this is surprising considering the confusion you have surrounding toy sales.

  8. The thread title implies that cross-server queues were an inevitability in the game that should've already happened. Otherwise, it's a non sequitur because the date has absolutely nothing to do with a feature suggestion unless it was reasonably expected to have been released by now.

On the subject of cross-server queues, it's hard enough to deal with the toxicity of PvPers in English. I'd find it quite annoying to have people spamming toxic nonsense in German.

Considering games nearly twice as old as swtor have it...I’d say that we’ve gone eight years without it is rather relevant. Especially considering the game should’ve never launched without it. It’d be like releasing a new smart phone with no ability to access the internet.

PvP has and always will be toxic in any online game. It’s the internet.

  9. The romantic relationships in the movies had deep, meaningful, and fundamentally destiny altering implications. The romances in SWTOR consist of three lines and a fade to black with a kiss. They are literally only as deep as the smugglers numerous one night stands with non companion NPCs.

The player companion romances in this game aren’t remotely comparable to movie romances.

  10. You're right, engines *can* be upgraded, but that has approximately nothing to do with what I said.

To be sure, transfers usually take only seconds, but the guarantee offered is "under an hour".

But for cross-server gameplay to work, data transfer must take milliseconds, consistently, always, and *continuously*. Solving that problem requires a different set of things than one-off database changes / moves.

The point is that it’s entirely possible. I’m fairly certain I never stated that all it would take is the flip of a switch to make happen. What I did say is that it IS possible since communication already occurs. It WOULD take upgrading the engine to do. If LOTRO can manage an engine upgrade than this game under EA certainly can and should too. It’s 2019 and it’s time this game have features that existed in 2004. The reason that this won’t happen is because the game is in maintenance.

  11. tell me how did Empire do vs A New Hope? Unajusted 30%

Tell me how did AoTC do vs TPM? unajusted 36.9%

712,358,507 is tanking internationally? Are you on drugs?

Star Wars has never sold in China..... like ever. The fact it made anything is gosh darn miracle. In no way was disney expecting TLJ to do well in China.

Toy sales are down for EVERY franchise including Marvel. Do you know what is up though? MIcortransactions in Mobile games. The amount of profit they made from any of the 50 STar Wars games on mobile easily dwarfs the profits of Toy sales.

no Solo failed because no one wants to see Han Solo with out Harrison Ford.

Tell you what if you are right and TLJ hurt Star Wars then we will find out in a few months when Ep9 is released.

ahh this explains it. You don't even understand the OT. Vader was not Space Hitler. The Emperor was Space Hitler.

Please stop. The film in China was literally pulled from theaters; a weak market is vastly different from a hostile one. Ticket sales dropped 92% after just a week in theaters. “‘The Last Jedi has already been completely pulled from cinemas here,’ Jimmy Wu, chairman of nationwide Chinese cinema chain Lumiere Pavilions, told The Hollywood Reporter. ‘It’s performed much worse than we could have expected.’” TFA made $29 million in China. TLJ didn’t even make $3 million....

Star Wars toys lost to Nerf toys...Nerf...despite leading the market as recently as 2016. What is so difficult to understand that toy sales are tanking within the toy market compared to other toys...? It’s not a discussion of toys vs virtual good or anything else. Just toys. Toys. When talking about market competition it helps if you keep it relevant by talking about the same market. That all toy sales are down is irrelevant to the discussion of Star Wars toys in comparison to other toys.

As far as mobile games go. There isn’t a single Star Wars game on any of these lists:

Ahhh this explains it...the need to defend a poorly written movie has resulted in purposeful hyper-focusing on a metaphor in order to side step the point which was.....garbage writing. How about I fix it for you...space Goebbels with wizard powers. The point stands that the writing is trash and Luke’s character makes no sense. The special effects were cool though...

People had no problem seeing the entire enterprise crew without any of the actors who made them famous. Weird...

You can admit you like the movie despite it being garbage writing. It’s ok. I mean...I like Starship Troopers and that’s movie is trash lol.

  12. this would have mattered about 5 years ago. you may not have noticed, but all of the servers have already been merged. the only servers that still persist are regional. you understand that, right? x-server between DM and SF wouldn't be feasible because as bad as de-sync, clipping, and ping are on your home server, not to mention how badly the engine handles such things in general, imagine trying to play ranked between players that are constantly 300ms ping against those with 15ms? or if everyone gets 300ms? no. sorry, my child. we already have the best we're going to get. you can hop on the same EU server if you want and can agree on the same language, but that's about it.

    And two NA servers.

  13. There is so much wrong with this statement that I don't really know where to begin.

The conclusion that, because we can transfer characters from one server to another in a process that guarantees deliver in "not more than an hour", we can play with people on other servers in competitive game modes...

Um. Excuse me. I have to go outside and laugh my head off.

    ...

    ...

    ...

OK. I'm back. I feel weak, but apart from that I feel so much better.

Weird I thought engines could be upgraded. It’s almost like LOTRO upgraded their engine.... LOTRO....

Server transfers happen in seconds. Done it across more toons than I care to admit because of getting put on different servers than friends. Five years ago is not today.

  14. Yea idk then, cause the communication is already there, hence why we can transfer our toons within seconds. Maybe thats why. Because transfers are profitable..

Your individual server will always matter and server transfers will always be desirable. Whether it’s to transfer to play with a friend, to join a progression or PvP guild, the economy, or any other myriad of reasons. But cross server queues will benefit players and increase quality of life for numerous areas which increases the potential for more subs. I suspect that the reason we likely haven’t seen it is because it would require someone to foot the bill to develop.

  15. Nope. The problem is with the engine, hence why they said it will NEVER be implemented, way back.

Also they stated the two NA servers won't be merged either.

The engine isn’t the problem. Cross server communication/queues are already possible; hence why we can transfer between them with associated data. They’ve also already merged numerous NA servers. They’re just not going to merge it down to a single one only.

  16. That wouldn’t be a problem. All they have to do is add -server to the end of the name like in other games (ie: Telaan-Satele Shan vs Telaan-Star Forge).

It’s much more difficult to coordinate win trades with larger more active queues as a result of a deeper base of players being drawn from across numerous servers.

  17. Originally Lucas viewed them as heavy. In an interview with Mark Hamill, he stared that Lucas continually told him to hold the hilt with two hands and imagine it was heavy like a broadsword. However, Lucas also later stated that the fights of Episodes IV and V were designed to be clumsier and slower. Vader vs Obi-Wan was a broken man vs an old man; while Luke vs Vader was a half trained kid vs someone holding back his punches. By Episode VI it’s a Jedi Knight vs a Sith Lord and you see a bit more intensity (although Vader’s costume physically hindered the actor).

Lucas said that for the prequels he wanted to show what a Jedi at their height looked like.

  18. PvP has been trash in this game since shortly after launch. Ranked is the biggest joke of it all. Without cross server queues it’s literally meaningless. Even regs queues would seriously benefit from xserver. If I want to play esports I play battlefield or WoW. It’s tragic that anyone would consider themselves a real pvper and use ranked in this game as an example. How this game made it past Q&A in 2010-2011 with no xserver is baffling.
  19. Nope. You've decided that what matters to you should be the priority for every player in this game, and that's not how things work in an MMORPG that supports a lot of playstyles. Frankly, letting players kill each other for lulz and stroke their egos on leaderboards has no relevance at all to the story, but we expect Bioware to spend money on that.

Because as grownups with a mature understanding of the world beyond what WE personally want, there should be some acceptance that in a game such as this, there may be things that we don't enjoy that other players do, and we don't get to tell them to go away because we think they're silly or irrelevant.

Nobody's expecting this to be a romance simulator, but romances are part of the story, and they shouldn't disappear just because you want to dictate how everyone should play or personally find them silly. The story and companion relationships ARE relevant parts of this game. If you just want to play something where you can kill things with no other content, Anthem's always available. I'm not sure why anyone would decide to play a story-based game and then complain that there's story with adult themes.

I didn’t decide anything. The suits at EAware decided what is and isn’t relevant to this game. Companions are at times relevant to the overall story surrounding whatever crisis is occurring. But the “romance” parts of it are absolutely superficial and silly. They have zero depth. Period. Romances with companions will never have any kind of meaningful impact on the uber story arc or the outcome unless they decide to shoehorn it in...which is also something that will never occur.

Your response seems to indicate you have some belief that it’s because I’m adverse to adult themes? This is literally a game in which you run around merc’ing people by the thousands. Wanton killing, murder, genocide, crimes against sentient species, slavery, rape, etc are all themes seen throughout the game in some form or another. This is purely about the responsible use of finite real world resources so that the greatest whole benefit. Superficial and and shallow romances are in no way remotely close to included in that.

This game is undeniably built around killing things. Repeatedly. A lot. Period.
