  1. I thought WoW was the pariah. Everyone seems to hate WoW. Hell play WoW and you'll see people complaining about the game. SWTOR, as number 2, is also hated. Popular things are hated these days. Look at how people want to claim Avengers sucked. Because suddenly everyone has refined tastes hence why all action movies kill in the box office lol. The internet sucks. Get used to it.

There is no reason to worry not when others speak bad of you, it is when they no longer speak about you at all when you need to start worrying.

SWTOR, like WoW and GW2 are succesful because people still complain about it. The fact people do means the game still matters.

Who complains about RIFT anymore these days? Or TSW? Or other, truly unsuccesful, MMO's?

  2. No, using a blatantly wrong term to describe something does not mean a laguage is changing. Calling car a bike a million times does not mean you should start calling a car a bike. It is ignorance, nothing more and saying we should all start referring cars as bikes just because a large portion of internet users are ignorant is not how it works. It's not even applicable because the term "hacking" is so clearly defined in a dictionary.

DDoS attack does not give you access to private files nor does it change a program in any way, hence it's not hacking.

So, people, stop being ignorant eejits. :D

    This.

It's like people that know how to make an Excel sheet with some pre-written VB, or someone who is able to use a tool to design a website in HTML calling themselves "Programmers". It is giving a much simpler task the value of something that is a lot harder and more complex by using the name wrong.

For a non technical comparison: It is like calling a checkout clerk in Wallmart a 'Salesman'.

  3. I am personally a combination of the Gandalf and Darth Vader most of the time, especially on my Strike Fighter. Staying back to defend. The Vader especially can basically be done in Scouts and Strike Fighters around any satellite really. It just depends on being the patient kind who waits for an enemy to get close and then get the jump behind them, instead of being the kind that flies head first into battle to try and get a few shots in as early as possible.

    How about this one:

The Shadow/Assassin: That one scout who constantly jumps from cover to cover to get behind the gunships before killing them. Wasting way too much time on being in the middle of nowhere but, when played well, does keep the enemy gunships from getting any kills.

The Leeroy: The Scout who flies head-to-head towards a gunship, hoping to out shoot him. Can be succesful with Evasion cooldowns.

  4. Two Tips:

Tip 1: Do'nt bring your mouse so far outside the circle. Just to the edge is enough to the maximum speed turn. You don't push your joystick further than it goes either, do you?

Tip 2: If you do bring your mouse too far out of it, there is actually a clear visual indicator where your mouse is / how far outside the circle it is. The yellow line makes it very clear how far you need to move to get back into shooting / moving area.

It really is all about practice and finding the right visual cues. And of course that takes some time getting used to, especially when you are used to joystick control.

But just because you need longer to get used to it, doesn't make the controls bad or not precise. A lot of pilots have adapted already and are doing very well in controlling their ship.

  5. Gotcha. So PvE needs 4 Ops, 4 FP revisions, two brand new FP's, two new daily areas and a few events for every 1 new warzone "due to the nature of it". Because as we all know (especially me since while I'm a PvP'er I'm also in fully optimized 72's) only having the same 5 warzones in 2 years doesn't get old at all. Great post!

Just a bit of info; WoW did not have more than 5 warzones until Wrath of the Lich King. And getting there cost way more than 2 years.

PVP doesn't need constant new arenas because the fun in the content comes from the unpredictable nature of a human opponent.

One of the greates Real Life FFA, Last Man Standing PVP games is Poker. And Texas Hold 'Em hasn't changed rules for ages. The only thing changing is how people play the game.

Or an even better example; Magic the Gathering. A 1v1 PVP game which is constantly evolving because of new cards coming out every few months. That game is, because of that, entirely about metagame and how you read it and how you handle it.

It seems you want more a Magic the Gathering kind of PVP, while others simply prefer a more Poker kind of PVP.

SWTOR's PVP is more like Poker. Because it doesn't have too much new warzones (2 since launch now, probably a lot more once 4v4 arenas are a thing), and it also doesn't have a lot of changes in balance every few patches (like WoW did for many years).

  6. * A TK/Lightning sorc/sage has one big chance to bring them down, and that is if you can time the immunity skill right to nullify the initial burst. From that point the TK/Lightning can open up a much higher initial alpha-strike, since they have a faster cycling rate of medium/heavy attacks than sniper/slingers. The freedom to "dance" along the max-range is also another one of those advantages going for the sorc/sage --- but without these specific conditions, things may go bad.

And this is exactly why I love going against Snipers/Slingers as my TK Sage. It is not a sure beat, but we have a chance to out damage them when played well and we also have the mobility that Slingers have not.

Another interesting technique is actually the sprint forward. DPS them while they are in range of your bubble stun. They usually don't defensive roll against Sages/Sorcs and if you time a shield just right you dont even have to burst it manually as they will just do it for you while you keep the damage up. Many Snipers/Slingers don't keep in mind the bubble stun anymore, because it is no longer the Sage/Sorc spec. Which makes it a wonderful tool. At least for the first time you one-on-one.

Also, the Proc burst of a Sage > every burst a Slinger has. And unlike Balance Sages, you are not dependant on one power, so a lockout from interrupt doesn't hurt your DPS as much.

Really.. Slingers aren't that hard to kill. They just take a different tactic than any other spec out there. So it really is a L2P issue to kill them for almost every spec out there.

  7. No one is arguing WoW is better, what is being argued is the terrible performance that most people geting in SWTOR kills their will to play it.

Thing is though.. the performance isn't FPS that is truly ruining it (though it can be a part of it)

SWTOR can be run with acceptable FPS on the worst of modern machines, if you are willing to sacrifice visuals for it. The one thing that can't be fixed though is the horrible performance when it comes to loading. Especially some planets are horrible! No modern game should have you waiting more than a minute to load an area. But on many machines, this is the reality of every larger planet like Tatooine, Alderaan, Hoth, Belsavis, Corellia, etc..

Not to mention the fact that these planets are also the worst offenders when it comes to choppiness in gameplay. The size of these planets seem to make it impossible for most machines to use a speeder from one area to the other without horrible lag and choppiness. Heck, just the other day I accidentilly ran off a cliff on Makeb because of choppiness in just walking around.

I know my machine isn't perfect. But I do run other games pretty well on it, even modern games. There is no excuse for this game not improving performance when it comes to loading zones, and then choppiness coming from travelling within these zones.

When I take 3 minutes to get into Makeb, I expect Makeb to be fully pre loaded.. not to get even more choppy gameplay because it still needs to load stuff in.

I still love the game, but the performance of the game surely has a lot to improve. And this has nothing to do with visuals and FPS, no matter how much people want it to be. FPS is a horrible measure, it's only about how smooth the game actually plays and responds to commands, without the game freezing up for a split second just because Im using Force Sprint and turning my camera around.

  8. I think Bioware learned a lot from the mistakes made on SWTOR. And with a good plan, and a strong IP like Mass Effect that is just begging for an action based / shooter MMO that expands on the gameplay already in the ME3 multiplayer and single player while adding multiplayer aspects like Space and ground vehicle exploration and combat, while also having more than enough room for personal customization in armors and creating your own 'living space' in Apartments like it was created (in a smaller version) in both the Captain's quarters and later on also in the Citadel DLC.

It could be a great, level based game with gear used only for customization and minor tweaks according to play style (like ME3 gearing). Focusing on both small scale PVE and PVP (like solo missions or 4 person multiplayer gameplay like ME3) as well as large scale outdoor, vehicle and space battles in both PVE and PVP.

Almost all the gameplay elements for a great MMO were already in the single player of the ME series. Just convert it to a multiplayer game with a consistent world and you have a jewel in your hands.

So yeah.. with the organizational lessons learned from the investment mistakes and wrong decisions made in SWTOR development, and the IP power of Mass Effect behind it.. we can surely expect Bioware making an MMO (or at least a multiplayer based game in a consistent world) in the future.

PS. What I meant in the end is that basicly, we may need to redefine our definition of what an MMO is to accept if a new MMO will come. For example; consistent world and personal customization define an MMO I believe. So we can expect an MMO to not have aspects we expect from MMO's at this time.. like large scale endgame PVE, or warzone PVP, or a contuiing storyline, or crafting, or classes. As long as its a consistent online world, and personal customization, anything can really be defined as an MMO.

  9. At this point anything immediately satisfying, short and simple to get out of would possibly work, but its something they missed the boat on thinking that they should removed all time wasting things. They forgot that players need to be slowed down or content would be consumed too rapidly. They were smart to remove some time sinks that were a bother, but forgot or simply did not understand that players need something to fill that gap.

Playing pazaak or sabaac, swoop races, heck just being able to decorate your ship could add hours upon hours of time wasted just doing things unrelated to endgame/leveling content.

Is decorating your hangar good enough for you? If so.. check 2.3 and the Bounty Hunting event.

  10. I don't agree. Players didn't support because they ran out of things to do. The content in this game is amazing. The problem is that it is burned through too fast. Bioware was not prepared for that and that's why they had issues. Slowing the level curve and slowing the gearing process would have afforded them more time to work on content. You are right in saying people didn't support them but people don't usually support what they aren't enjoying. A lot of MMO players like to concentrate on 1 character, maybe 2 at max. A lot of those players were cap level and geared within 2 months. That's way to fast for a first character. Yes a lot of MMOs are like that now, that's the problem with them.

Soluss, I think you greatly misunderstood Andryah's point.. you made it like this statement:

For the better part of a year, the game was not receiving support from the player base proportionate the effort Bioware put into the game. Hence the multiple downsizings of the staff and change to the business model in 2012 to resize and retune the game to match the level of player commitment to the game.

Was Andryah attacking the players for not doing it. But it isn't. It is merely a clear description of why the downsizing happened; Bioware made the game with a certain amount of staff post-launch to support a certain size of playerbase. That staff is what 'Bioware put into the game'. When the support becomes less and more and more people quit, the gamers do no longer 'put into the game' as much as Bioware is doing. This is why layoffs are necessary.

    Let's give a simpler example;

Say you run a clothing store. You hire 5 people to work the store, so that each customer that actively is looking for something to buy, at most times, has at least 1 person helping them finding the right size.

Now.. your store doesn't run as good as you hope it would. And there are never more than 3 customers in the store at once, except for peek hours or during sales, which is probably less than 5% of your total opening time.

Do you then keep the 5 people in staff? Or do you downsize to 3 because those 3 are what the customers are supporting and what is needed to support your customers back in the service you want to be able to give them?

This decision is exactly what happened for Bioware. They had more staff than needed to support the game and future development on the scale that both they wanted to be able to, as well as what was possible because of the amount of revenue the game was able to make.

Keeping more people staffed would not have solved that clear issue.

Now, the game is doing better at this moment. Should Bioware immediately restaff everything they laid off before? Of course not.. we are no longer a newly invested business, we are now a running business that needs to make sure we cover our running cost. So new staff will be hired (and is being hired if you look at the job openings at Bioware and such), but not immediately as much as money allows. Gradual growth is always better for running businesses.

Also, to some other posters in the thread, 2.3 proves to us that new content is underway that is not merely about making CM money. But sure, it's still all about the CM.

  11. Um, well, nobody asked for an Ewok companion (quite the contrary), so expecting subs to be happy about this is quite silly. Even if loads of people had been asking for an Ewok companion since launch, this would be insufficient, given the sheer lack of content subscribers have received as part of their subscription.

Yeah well.. it's not like 2.3 will also come with 2 new flashpoints and a daily area.

    Oh wait..

  12. I don't think I'm alone in SW fan to have a keen dislike of Ewoks.

Indeed, you and every other snot-nosed geek who doesn't like change or anything outside their small little world of what is 'true Star Wars' dislike Ewoks.

Push comes to shove: Star Wars is 40 years old by now. There are many things in it that not each and every fan likes. Do you hear tons of people complaining about all those other Sith introduced in the Clone Wars and pre Clone Wars era when the whole "Rule of Two" was the only reason the Sith could stay hidden? Or what about any other of a thousand other possible gripes people can have with Star Wars.

But no, a very small and very vocal group of Nerd "hipsters" who believe it's cool to hate whatever is outside their little bubble of what is "true" constantly just make the simple hits and jabs at anything they believe "unworthy" to appease their little 'in-crowd'.

But you know what, you are just a very sad sad individual.

Do I like Ewoks? Hell no! But do I complain about it? Hell no!

  13. What I like most about the leaks so far is that this companion is a big ol' f*** you from the Developers to all those people claiming every important new addition to the game will be behind a pay wall for subscribers.

This is simply an expensive purchase so far, not something that is put behind the Cartel Store. Selling a new companion, especially an Ewok, could make SWTOR a lot of cash. Yet they chose to add it as ingame content that you can get ingame without the Cartel Store.

Though it could be just for testing purposes, if this way of acquiring the companion goes Live this will prove the claim from Bioware that more stuff will come that doesn't require subs to pay Cartel Coins.

  14. Ah, That explains it...you are new. Just to give you a brief FYI, Makeb was to be the largest content update ever...and free. Then it became a Mini-Expac/DLC and charged for.

And how does this response in any way respond to the core of his statement?

You know.. that Makeb costing money was announced months before Makeb launch. Heck, the timeframe that we knew Makeb would cost money was almost as long as the timeframe we weren't sure if it would.

    To be specific:

First Makeb announcement: June 2012, vague statements about it's pricing.

F2P announcement: August 2012, statement that cost of Makeb is 'on the table, though it could still be free for subs'

RotHC announcement with costing: December 2012, 6 months post Makeb announcement

RotHC launch: April 2012, 4 months post RotHC announcement.

So.. assuming the 2.3 patch with Flashpoints will cost all players money.. and will come out in a few weeks.. the 'trend' of pre announcing these things isn't really being followed, is it?

  15. At what point did I appear heated that, I needed to chill out? So asking a calm reasonable question is now considered going loco? Truly a shame what public education has done to the masses.

Passive Agressiveness is the 'smart' man's way of freaking out.

And almost all your posts in this thread were passive aggressive.

So please, get your head out of your.... sand.

  16. This is a false argument, because to make these items available on GTN, they always must be bought with CC first. It doesn't matter I do that or somebody else does that. It's an insult and nonsense either case. They Can't be obtained without CC. It doesn't matter who spends them.

Ah.. the strawman argument of the hater ever since they started realising that "you can buy it on the GTN" was an actual argument against them complaining they need to pay real money to get it.

Honestly, why do you even CARE that somebody else spends money on it? F2P is all about giving people the freedom to spend more money than others and making sure it improves the game experience for all people. Some people simply have disposable income, why MUST they be limited to only spending 15 dollars a month on their favorite hobby just because you feel nobody should have to spend more real money on it?

Screw this strawman, the forum needs to more actively root out this horrible and useless point and call out anyone who uses it.

  17. Heck, you could even debate the level 55 Hardmodes have no cost. Yes, you pay to be able to become level 55, but do you have to pay for access to them as soon as you go F2P after buying Makeb? I think not. Also, the new Operation you might have to pay to have access to as F2P, but that is because you pay for Operation access regardless of your level, not because the Operation itself is behind a pay-gate beyond needing level 55.

So no, there is no trend of actual game content, meaning flashpoints, warzones, daily areas and events, costing money at all.

So OP, following current trends; it will cost nothing.

  18. "If you hate it so much, why don't you leave?"

This is a question many of us who are critical of SWTOR are asked by others regularly. Here's my reason:

I first became aware of the Star Wars universe in the summer of 1977. I have been in love with it ever since. The ideology, the effects, the stories were amazing especially for something in the science fiction genre. It ushered in a new era of forward looking and thinking fiction like nothing before.

The point is after 36 years, whether it be BioWare, Marvel Comics, an Expanded Universe novel, the Prequel Trilogy or anything else... if you put the name Star Wars on it, we the fans will be all over it. We will quickly tell you if what you are doing with the Star Wars universe is unworthy of the name. We will scratch and claw and fight until we are satisfied or until it's over. But, we will NOT abandon it. While it bears the Star Wars name, it's part of us. Count on us being here and count on our praise and/or criticism.

    Nice general idea..

Problem is, most Star Wars fans of old like you can't look past the glasses of nostalgia you felt almost 40 years ago and don't understand that Star Wars was always a product of it's time. You want the 70s/80s space fantasy in a day and age when Sci Fi, and Star Wars with it, has evolved beyond that.

If they would make Star Wars according to your specs, your generation would love it.. but nobody else would.

  19. you're telling me all the new players out there are dps? you can barely find a healer /tank by calling out on the fleet.

Yes, he is telling you just that.

Even more so.. it can be proven that the bigger the population gets, the harder it actually gets for just DPS to get queues. If less than 50% of people are tank/healer, then you get a situation where 1 tank/healer has to do more than 1 flashpoint to cater to all DPS in the queue.

If it was really extreme.. like 10% of the queue was tank or healer, and 90% was DPS.. then each tank and healer will have to do 9 flashpoints to cater to all DPS waiting for a queue. Even in less extreme situations.. like 40%-60% situations, each tank/healer needs to do 1,5 flashpoint to cater to all people.

Considering the fact that quite quickly the only rewards people get from flashpoints are the daily/weekly comms, most people.. including the tanks and healers, will do like only 1 flashpoint and then find another activity to do. This means that even if the population is only unbalanced for like 5-10% into one direction over the other, very soon 10-25% of the DPS in a queue will have to wait very long to get that illusive 1 tank or healer.

And this assumes people only queue alone. Queue times only get worse because very often a guild has like 2 DPS and either a tank or healer present in a group, and only need the other role. Those 2 DPS skip the line in front of all other DPS waiting. Even if only 1 DPS queues with a tank or healer, this already pushes other DPS back in the queue.

Now.. imagine that 1% not being 1 person, but like 10 people.. it will only increase the chance of a healer/tank wanting only 1 FP instead of multiple on a night, while also increasing chances of guild teams cutting in line for 1 healer/tank and all other things that make a minor inbalance a huge wait time.. and you see that after a while, bigger groups of people can actually also increase queue time for certain people.

Heck... I've had moments where I insta queued as a DPS because for some reason the queues were packed with healers and tanks and barely any DPS.. and other times my group had to wait for 1,5 hour for a replacement healer.. while guildies of mine got 2 FPs done in the same time.. because all healers were queueing with buddies instead of alone.

Queue times take a lot more things into account than just population size.

  20. Issues like this will continue to arise until Bioware just mans up and basicly says: We simplified Bolster to the following:

    - No expertise on an item of gear? You get a fixed amount of stats depending on your Advanced Class and talent tree with the most points in it. Fixed amount will be just below unaugmented Partisan gear (if you invested in augments, these stats will be added seperately). This can mean some stats will be lower than what you had before.

    - Any expertise on an item of gear? Do nothing with the item whatsoever.

I am still awaiting the day in which Bioware explains why Bolster was not made as simple as that.. it levels the playing field and removes exploits from situations where Bolster acts in unexpected ways because of the formulas around Main stats vs Expertise in higher item level areas, or the higher base armor/damage of higher item level armorings and weapons.

Please Bioware.. simplify Bolster this way and nobody will complain anymore about the math side of it!

  21. Anyone who even for a moment thought these were real future patch notes needs to seriously slap themselves for being too dumb to understand how games work and never be allowed to comment on an MMO forum again concerning Patches, bugs and fixes.

For me, the moment it was clear it was fake was right.. about.. here..

Patch Notes 2.4 : Galactic Conflicts

    02/10/2013

We are happy to announce the implementation of game update 2.4 "Galactic Conflicts". This update will bring significant improvements to your PvP experience. With this update, we hope to respond to the more competitive players. Here are the major changes to come.

    General

    • Global improvement of warzone performance. During warzones, a bug where overall performances were reduced has been corrected.

There is no one bug that causes performance issues, if there was it would have been fixed ages ago. The problem with performances issues for all video games has always been that it is a multi-layered issue, fixing one problem here causes another bottleneck in performance to show up somewhere else.

Anyone who believed the patch notes after that has lost their gamer cred entirely.. so thanks for letting us know who not to put any real faith into anymore guys!

All other things.. well.. if performance wise the large scale Warzone would be feasible.. then I'd like to see one of those as well! And all other ideas seemed cool enough as well. Only real thing I'd dislike is the Arenas.. I hate Arena style PVP as it is impossible to balance and ruins all other forms of PVP because of how much effort will have to be put into balancing Arena PVP. So please, never add Arena style PVP.

  22. And just how many companies everyday close down with people loosing their jobs

to stupid retardedprinciples like this

This is reality, make nice quality products and take care of your customer=people coming back for more=

company does well in long term. OR do like BioWare try to sell same outfit/speeder over and over in

gambling packs with new color and make horrible looking outfits=losing customers and paying subs

Ah yes.. because principles proven through hundreds of years of capitalism to be a succesful marketing formula are the reason companies close down. But sure.. I'll listen to the value a random person on the internet gives to a marketting principle instead of the thousands of case studies that prove this basic principle.

I'm not claiming it is a universal truth and that it is always exactly 20% vs 80%.. the general principle is true though: You can not make a company and continue it being profitable by selling only the A grade products that make you the most money. Especially companies like Walmart, Mediamarkt and Ikea thrive by this principle. Make sure you offer everything, even if parts of what you offer give no or less profit.

But sure.. the principle is wrong, and you are right. Internet arrogance at it's best here. Reality is on my side, not yours.

News flash.. some people DO want sets like the Huttbane and the new one.. Not much, but some do. So Bioware is taking care of those customers as well.. allienating parts of the customer base because other parts won't buy it is what I call "not taking care of your customers", yet you are calling for exactly that by wanting only the high quality, A group products like the Valiant Jedi armor. That's like a game store saying: We only sell Sony because they sell the most. How many game stores do you see doing that?

You really need to learn about having a business before claiming to know how Bioware has to run theirs.
