  1. Outlook and browser are separate apps... are you talking total used ram used or the swtor.exe's under the process tab of task manager?

SWTOR is a 32bit app. I have 64GB of ram. I don't know what you got going on but that is a lot of ram for one 32bit app... definitely something going on somewhere... like you said though when you got a bunch of ram... leaks are not that big of an issue performance wise

I am still trying to fathom just how I could possibly use that much ram. I only have 6 gigs, but honestly, I still feel that is more than I need.

That said, I want your ram....

  2. If anyone is confused, it's entirely Biowares fault. Their wording has been very vague and they've continually had to post new clarifications. It doesn't help either that this information is all over the website, with some of it contradicting other information. It's horrible to not have all of this clearly spelled out and in one easy to find spot. You have to search multiple Bioware posts to figure things out.

The fact that there are is so much that needs to be explained about this F2P system, just shows that it is way to complex and therefore a really bad idea.

Uh, I very clearly read and understood the first time that you had to be actively subscribed to get the coins.

Even if you do have to go searching, ignorance of the law is no excuse, and neither is it any excuse to complain because a person didn't actually go search for an answer. I will feel no pity for those players, and I will actually laugh at them in game because of it.

  3. Jedi Consular (Both ACs) Balance Saber leap/ Same for sith inquisitor, probably (Yoda does it to a clone in Ep 3)

You toss your lightsaber at a distant foe and then use the force to pull you to your blade. Does impact damage and DoT damage after you pull the blade out and is a move for sages to hit people with their light sabers.

Really? An ability for a Sage/Sorceror to further close the distance between themselves and their target? Please, tell me honestly, what Sage/Sorceror would actually want to get closer to that Operative/Scoundrel... or that Marauder/Sentinel?

If there is going to be an ability for Sage/Sorceror to use their lightsabers as part of combat, then it needs to be a brand new tree which gives them defense upgrades. They are squishy enough as it is, they do not need to be put even closer to the classes that will kill them quickly in close range.

  4. Its not just force users in this game, i want to be able to use flamethrower and tracer missile on a commando, switching animations for some abilities would be a good legacy unlock since i already have a level 50 mercenary. Perhaps if you have a level 50 of the mirror class on opposing faction, when you make the opposite, so if i made a trooper now, for compatable abilities they would appear in a "Bounty Hunter" tab once the equivilant trooper ability had been purchased, so at the start i could use "Missile Blast" immediately.

Yeah, Vanguard can use Rocket Punch... without a jetpack... it would make perfect sense.

Scoundrel could use a vibroknife... with a shotgun equipped....

Commando can fly up in the air and rain missiles down from his wrists... with a heavy *** cannon.

Yeah, let's abandon all sense of logic.

Hmm... I think I see some flaws in your line of thought.

I only see this happening after they go to the F2P model, where they will add in a Cartel item which allows you to do so, with Jedi/Sith classes. Other than that, I don't see it as being very likely to happen, at least not for an expansion or two.

  5. Speaking as a person who plays all three types, as the tank, you need to let the DPS know what you want them to interrupt and assign them specific channels to interrupt. On my DPS, if the tank doesn't say he wants something interrupted, I just interrupt the big attack (such as incinerate on the droid in LI HM) and nothing else. If I notice the attack is being interrupted by someone other than me, I will stop simply because I am not going to waste time on the interrupt that someone else is doing because I could be using that time to keep the boss from enraging.

As a healer, if you need an extra interrupt, you had better tell me, because I focus on one thing the entire time unless otherwise asked, and that's the health bars. Can I fit an interrupt in when needed? Sure, but I am not going to look for it because that is the job of the tank or DPS if the tank decides. The tank needs to moderate the fight, so the tank needs to tell everyone what their responsibilities are.

If you aren't doing this before the fight begins, then you shouldn't be expecting people to use their interrupts at all. Tanks know (and should) the fights better than any other player because they are the ones who have to deal with all of the different mechanics.

  6. So you expect that you should just have to play offensively rather than defensively? Instead, you should probably tell your teammates that there is someone on the goal line and have two of them hunt the person down and kill them. It's not that difficult to prevent as if the person is not invisible, you just have to do a quick look around your goal line and you can see them. As a Guardian/Jugg, you have an even better advantage as once they get the ball, you can just charge to them and push them off into the pit.

You are just playing poorly, as is your team, and perhaps you should try thinking of counter-measures rather than complaining about a mechanic that was made part of the game and with good reason.

  7. LOL!!! Are you freaking serious? R2-D2 and C3-P0 are the ONLY characters that appeared in every Star Wars film created. Including the horrible Christmas special. And Chewbacca? Out of all the alien characters there are, he is the most recognizable and most popular character (alien wise) in Star Wars. Hell. When they killed him off in that book, the fans were ready to burn down Skywalker Ranch and lynch the author who wrote him out of the story.

If you don't want aliens or droids as playable characters, then just say so and move on. But to say that the two most iconic and important characters in Star Wars aren't main characters, is a tragedy at best. There is no way you are a Star Wars fan and can say something that blatantly wrong with a straight face.

Just because characters appear in every movie doesn't mean they can't be supporting characters. How many of the movies are based around the struggles of these two droids?

A main character is one who the story revolves around. Someone who is important to the story. How much of a role did C3-PO play in Phantom Menace? What about Clone Wars? He appeared shortly and then faded out. If the prequels didn't have C3-PO at all, there never would have been any question about where he was. What about R2? Had he never been involved in the prequels, there also never would have been a question about it.

What if Anakin had never been in them? Well, now you do have yourself a problem because he is a main character. The story revolves around him.

The number of appearances of a character have nothing to do with establishing if that character is a main character in the story. The fact that the story is dependent on the character is what makes them that.

  8. - it's the communities fault that too many servers were opened at launch.

    Never heard this one.

    - it's the communities fault that they don't understand the game.

If they don't understand the game, it is their own fault. This game is very straight forward about pretty much everything.

    - it's the communities fault that they have/had unrealistic expectations.

I didn't expect anything except exactly what they told us. I didn't expect this game to revolutionize MMO's, I didn't expect this game to beat WoW in anything, I didn't expect the game to have all of the luxuries some come with such as an LFG tool.

If you expected anything except what they said would be available at what time, it is your own fault, so yes, it is the communities' fault.

    - it's the communities fault that they don't have the patience to wait out fixes.

If you can't be patient, it is your own fault. When they rush out fixes, it breaks something else, so I'd rather wait for a fix if it means I won't have to deal with something else being broken. Yes, this is the communities' fault.

    - it's the communities fault that the server populations are too low, because of the previous point.

In part, yes, because the community didn't roll on lesser populated servers like people were complaining about at launch, but instead they rolled on the heavily populated ones.

However, Bioware also is partially at fault for opening too many servers. Grass isn't green on either side of the fence.

    - it's the communities fault that they picked a dead server at launch.
Because most people kept rolling on the big servers. It's not the fault of the people who rolled the dead ones, but the ones who rolled the heavy ones instead.

    - it's the communities fault that they aren't enjoying their dead server, re-roll already.

This is where we should have character transfers. To Biowares credit, they are bringing them in. I don't blame people for not paying $15 every month to play on a dead server, but once character transfers come out, if they don't resub to at least see what happens, then yes, it is their own fault at that point.

    - it's the communities fault that they aren't entertained by the current content.

Are you just making stuff up now to make your list longer?

    - it's the communities fault that people are turned off to this game because they trash it constantly.

    Yep, you are.

It is not my fault that this game is missing a ton of features and that people aren't happy. Serious question - at what point to we stop blaming the community for this games issues?

How many threads in these forums are blaming the community as opposed to blaming Bioware? At what point does it stop becoming Biowares fault and we stop blaming them for every little thing, especially some of the things we can control. LFG tool? They have an LFG comment readily available. All it takes is 5 seconds to say "FP Heals" in it and people can guess based on your level what FP or content you are willing to do.

Bioware can be blamed for a lot, I'll admit. But the community can be blamed for a lot too.

  9. Yeah, there are evil.

They are so bad, The had to make a rule that only 2 of them could exist in the whole universe or they would destroy themselves.

Something is wrong with your group if you can't gather in mass without killing each other off.

You have completely missed the point of the rule of two. The rule of two was created in the first place because what was always intended was for the apprentice to take the place of the master, proving he or she was stronger than the master. What instead would happen was several apprentices would team up to take down the master, then only to have one take the position of the master, but being much weaker than the master was.

With the rule of two though, in order for the apprentice to become the master, he must surpass in power not only his own master, but the power of each master before, as the current master is going to be more powerful than all before. This fact is why Darth Sidious was the most powerful Sith to ever exist up to that point, he had to surpass the power of every master before himself in order to kill his own. This ensures that the Sith continue to grow more powerful rather than grow weaker, as they did when apprentices would unite to take down their master.

The rule of two is Darwinism at it's best.

  10. Arguing about what the Vong did, or whether Sith or jedi are good or evil based on our real life world is pointless and it seems like that's what is going on here to some extent. Morality or good vs. evil is dictated by the creator, in our world it was God, in the SW universe it was George Lucas.

If something like what the Vong did happened in our world it would undeniably be considered morally wrong and evil because we have a standard set in stone (literally, haha...ok the ten commandments joke is not that funny).

It's also not really accurate to just say it's all about one's viewpoint either. A whole culture/group of people may be living a certain way and it may seem normal to them but that doesn't automatically make what they are doing correct. If we all of a sudden discovered an entire nation of cannibalistic people in our world who constantly back-stabbed each other and tortured and killed children, it may be a part of normal life for them but that doesn't make what they are doing any less wrong or morally evil. For the Vong culture, just because it is how they've always remembered living doesn't automatically mean they are not evil, it just comes down to my point in the next paragraph.

For the answer to all this we need to look to GL for that standard, what does he say to be good and what does he say to be evil, or does he say it's all relative and there is no good or evil. The Jedi, Sith, Vong can't be measured by our real world standards because they don't exist here, they exist in a galaxy completely created and controlled by GL. Nobody can win a debate here by presenting viewpoints based on real world morality when the universe in question runs by different rules by a different creator.

In order to define what is good and evil, one must first know what is moral and immoral. If Lucas knows the absolutes, then he can define what is good or evil. If he does not (which none of us do...yet), then he can only state that they are good or evil in his view. If it is only in his view, then it remains relative and therefore each person gets to define what they will as good and evil.

As it is, George Lucas can only tell us what is good or evil within his universe. This discussion does not limit itself to his universe though, but rather it moves into our own universe and its concepts of morality. We can measure them by our standards because in order to say we can't, you have to prove they don't exist in the first place, which requires disproving the multiverse theory, or at the very least, proving that there are a limited number of universes and one which is exactly like the Star Wars universe does not exist within reality. I'm quite certain none of us can prove or disprove any of this, so it is perfectly reasonable to discuss the nature of good and evil within the Star Wars universe in comparison to our own.

  11. No way are the Sith good, even if there are an absolute good and evil that exist outside of human perception (which I don't believe to be true) the words "good" and "evil" are man-made, and they are made to describe certain abstract concepts. Even if there was a "true good" it would not fall under what we consider evil because we are the ones that make the phrasing. "Absolute evil" would still be what we call evil even if we were able to understand the concept perfectly.

You have to choose that either there are absolutes for good and evil (which you don't believe), or that good and evil are relative and therefore the Sith are good in their own right, just as the Jedi would be evil according to the same perspective. You can't have it both ways, saying there is no absolute good and evil but then calling someone evil, without creating a fallacy.

As for the definitions, good and evil are simply, in the context this subject puts them in, defined as morally right and morally wrong, and those are the concepts being debated. So, unless you can define what is morally right or wrong with certainty, then you cannot say the Sith are not good. The only absolute that can be given is that in George Lucas' mind, they are evil. Again though, that requires that he knows the true definition of good and evil in order to make that judgement. Otherwise, it comes back to being relative to each individual.

  12. I do have a screenshot, but unless you log onto my server and verify that they are indeed sages, then it's pointless.

I'm beginning to think that Tuesdays patch introduced a combat info (killed by who and with what skill message) bug. Either way, if you want me to post the screenshot I'd be more then happy to. I'm on the Shii-Cho server.

Right, because a screenshot showing the /who list with the same name as the person who killed you and their class saying "Sage" next to it is impossible to do. Or even to just target the person and let the tooltip do the work for you if you want.

Again, screenshot or it didn't happen. There are plenty of ways you can provide evidence to back your claim if you put a little bit of effort into it.

  13. The OP has a point.

Not everyone can manage 20+ key binds during a fight. Yes, for those that can it makes the game fun but how many people in the general public can do this? Are they having fun? Is it fun for them to know they will never excel at anything in this game past level 30 or so because they simply can't manage those key binds?

Yes, there are always those that say "dude I key bind all of my keys, can play them with my eyes closed and always rank at the top of any WZ ... notice how no one is ever ranked second? ... you just have to practice" The general public doesn't want to do back-flips ,,, they just want to play.

I guess you can just say "if you can't handle this game go play something else ... but do you really want to play alone on empty servers because the key press combinations coupled with no addons or macro scripts turn this game into work instead of fun?

I'm not throwing the old "doom and gloom" around, but there is a certain reality all games must face. If you make the game so hard that the general public doesn't have fun, you will lose customers. Games mechanics should never be designed for the elite gamer ... they must be designed for the average gamer or your game becomes a niche game with low populations and terribad word of mouth.

Games have to balance complicated game play against simpleton game play. Neither extreme is a good thing. Personally, I think SWTOR may have skewed it towards one end more than the other.

You know, there are some people who are meant to play football, and then there are people meant to play soccer.

Some people just won't be able to handle Marauder/Sentinel because of the skill level it requires. That means that they probably shouldn't be playing it. If they really want to play it, they will learn to adapt, and if they do not, they will fail.

I used to play a game called GunZ: The Duel. When it first came out, it was typical shooter with an over the shoulder view. However, suddenly the Korean players (which the game is from Korea) found a glitch in the game. They found you could pull out your sword (in a game called "GunZ," the irony that would bring) and then jump, slash at a wall, and you could get a second jump. They would then jump, slash, dash at the wall, and repeat, and suddenly people were reaching parts of maps that would normally take much longer to get to and be far more difficult.

Then, these same players found that you could both block and slash with your sword at the same time due to another glitch. Then, they found you could slash and switch to your gun to shoot while in the air. And before you knew it, we had

for gameplay. Just to give some perspective by the way, they are playing at about 10 kps (keys per second), which is considered slow and sloppy compared to what players do today. A typical "easy" move is:

    (Dash) » Jump » Slash » Gun 1 » Shoot » Reload » Sword » Dash » Slash » Gun 2 » Jump » Shoot » Reload » Dash » Gun 1

All of those count as 1 key with the exception of dash, counting as 2, and that one step is performed in 1 second.

So, what was the point of all this? Well, most people just weren't cut out for playing that game because it required too much skill, coordination, and nearly inhuman reflexes. Just the same, Marauder/Sentinel just isn't meant for some people because they can't concentrate on 30 skills and all of the boss mechanics at the same time. It doesn't mean the class needs to be changed, it simply means they will never be able to play as effectively unless they take the time to learn to play well.

OP, if anything the class needs more skills and quickbars.

  14. If there is one thing I believe in, it is that of logic. Logically, as our entire universe is made up of opposites to create a balance, there must be absolute good and evil. Everything is either good or evil, though to varying degrees. I am an absolutist, but I do not think we know yet what those absolutes are.

So, maybe the Sith are evil, or maybe they are good. Either way, we do not know until we find out what those absolutes are, which will probably never happen.

  15. I am not looking at it the wrong way.

The issue is the money sink is way too much for changing outfits, and is not in-line with other regular use money sinks such as, as you noted, paying fuel to travel to planets, paying to travel by speeder and using the GTN.

Travelling around SWTOR and selling on the GTN is pretty cheap actually. One can't even compare that with the cost to change an outfit currently.

As I noted before, other major games, such as WoW, LOTRO and Rift charge nothing to next to nothing to change outfits, and their in-game economy is fine. So the argument that this needs to be a BIG money sink doesn't really hold water.

    So bottom line;

I do not mind being charged a SMALL amount (on the same scale as other regular use items, such as travel and GTN use) for changing outfits. But the current charge (even the reduced charge coming in 1.3) is ridiculously expensive.

Yet they have seen inflation since they initially released, correct? However fine it may be, the fact is all games face inflation over time. The larger the gross money sink that is seen, the slower inflation will work. Saying the price is too expensive because it is 120k is meaningless simply because any player at the level it costs that can bring that much money into the economy on any given day, plus some. It's simple math when you look at it. Ilum and Black Hole can, alone, bring you well over 120k and take less than 1 hour to do both sets, minus the heroics.

You are right, comparing the stripping fee to travel costs unreasonable, but not because mod fees are too expensive. It's more along the lines that travel fees are too cheap. If you were able to strip all of your mods out for 1k total, you wouldn't blink at that. If it was 10k, you probably still would just laugh at it. 120k though makes it so it takes a big chunk out of you pocket, and that is what is always needed. It is because of this that I brought those in specifically; because they are continuous sinks and don't even cost enough to make you think about using them.

Right now, the only big continuous sink we have is mod stripping. As said before, one time fees do not count as much as a sink because they only take so much out and then do nothing else. You could spend 200k on skills, it will still only take out 200k. Stripping mods multiple times though, that takes 120k out each time. Hell, now it will only be taking out ~84k with 1.3, and that is a hell of a discount when you look at it.

It is not too expensive as it is, and if anything I feel it is becoming too cheap, and having 200k on hand at any time, I am far from being a rich person myself. However, if people want to be changing outfits so much, perhaps this is just a way of Bioware saying "get more Rakata gear and strip the mods so all of your outfits have the mods in them already." Though I suppose that would make only too much sense for some people to use (not directed at you, by the way).

Perhaps this is just one of those conversations where neither of us can convince the other, and we just have to agree to disagree? We probably have completely different experiences with game economies, mine obviously being the ones that were screwed because of a lack of sinks. I'd still rather have too many sinks than not enough.

  16. There ARE MANY, MANY money sinks already in the game. NO ONE here is arguing that we don't need some money sinks. Just that being able to change your appearance is too expensive for many people.

Does being able to easily and cheaply change your appearance affect the in-game economies in games like Rift, WoW and LOTRO?

    ****Nope, it does not.****

So I'm not sure why people keep trying to say that making changes to your appearance will wreck the in-game economy.

Then perhaps you are looking at it the wrong way?

Please look at the wording and how it reads.

]Does being able to easily and cheaply change your appearance affect the in-game economies in games like Rift, WoW and LOTRO?

The cost behind mods is not to charge you to change your appearance. It is a sink to take money out of the game through a commonly used feature. Does being able to move around the planets quickly affect the in-game economies of those same games? So why are we charged to use a speeder to go around planets? Why are we given a "fuel" cost for travel between planets? By putting in a money sink which pretty much everyone will use, they have ensured that inflation will stay very low. It is the same idea as behind any kind of auction house that has a "tax" to it. We are being charged to exchange items and money between each other without bringing any money into the game.

As for legacy, those are one time sinks. We will not used them multiple times per character, we will not pay for them many times over. Single sinks are not enough, otherwise they would just charge us for skills and legacy and have everything else be free. A consistent sink such as stripping mods guarantees that most, if not all, people will use it and quite often, meaning it will take a lot of money out of the game many times over.

What do you do when you want a piece of gear that is crafted? You either save up the money to get it or you take the time necessary to make it yourself. It is the same idea behind stripping mods for a certain appearance.

  17. I like Project honestly. It would be nice if it was more environment friendly, but it at least makes our abilities look different. For Sith, they shoot lightning, then lightning, then some more lightning, and finish you off with a little shock of lightning.

If they would just fix Telekinetic Throw to be something better, such as along the lines of

, it would actually be a very cool skill. As it is, I just make my own jokes about it in mumble as a hybrid DPS saying I am spamming my pebbles of doom. Really though, it would be nice if it was more like that animation, or maybe that animation but combined with Disturbance visuals.
  18. Sorry, but screenshot or it didn't happen. If we just took your word on it that they were definitely Sages using Spinning Strike, we would look like idiots.

Hell, I could say that I was killed just the other day by a Guardian using Death from Above, but it doesn't mean it actually happened now does it?

  19. First person to say craft and use the GTN, I am going to force choke you through my computer.

    Craft and use the GTN....

Honestly, I think people who keep asking for these money sinks to be taken away or lessened have never been on a game that had an extremely bad economy caused by inflation. I came from a game where after the first year prices went up by 1000%, no joke either. The price of some items went from 100,000 to 10,000,000

I don't know about you, but I'd rather be barely able to afford things with 10,000 credits as opposed to barely able to afford things with 10,000,000 credits. Keep the money sinks in.

  20. This thread sounds more like a desperate cry for help. Instead of re-rolling yourself, you want everyone else to so you can keep your character. Instead, what should be done is all servers should be encouraged to roll to a few randomly picked servers by an unbiased third party, with certain servers grouping into one, such as having all servers starting with A-F roll on a server with an A name.

I encourage people to actually come up with a good solution rather than "everyone roll to my server so I don't have to lose my character."

  21. This game has more loading times and loading screens then any MMO I have ever played.

It seems we spend a good deal of time looking at loading screens when going from one place to the other.

I even get a loading screen when I run another program with the game in window mode.

I know its not my system so there has to be something that can be done server side.

I typically find this to be the biggest problem with the community. "It's not my fault, so it must be another person's fault."

  22. Already did a spec very similar to this one, and while it is good for PvP, it is not for PvE. There is a noticeably large drop in DPS. However, for those of you hitting enrage timers already as it is, it is worthwhile to do a hybrid spec like this. Though personally, seeing as you are not the main healer, it is better to throw points into TK for the extra absorb in Force Armor. All you need to do is be able to stop damage until the healer can catch up, and it is an instant cast.
