Amnolith
Amber Green posted 2 weeks ago Hello everyone! For the next several days, we will be performing some back end maintenance on the Star Wars™: The Old Republic™ Forums. During this time, you will be unable to use the search function for the Forums. However, there will be no other effects to you as a user, and you will be able to continue to message, post, reply, and report as normal. We apologize for any inconvenience. When maintenance has been completed and searching is functional again we will post here, so please watch this thread for any updates or additional information. It has been two weeks. With all due respect, vbulletin is still at version 3.8.5 which is 2+ years old versus the latest version which is 4.1.9. Every day you keep closing threads about search pointing to that post in the First Time Help forum without addressing the issue. Maintenance has happened and search is still unavailable and the forums are using old and outdated software. Several of us have been pointing out the issues with using outdated software and I believe your official comments are misleading about this issue. The search IS working, it has just been commented out in the code and the permissions have been set probably to moderators and admins only. The issue is that after now 2 weeks which is more than the "next Several Days"...threads are still closed with no further details. Are you working on upgrading the forums to the latest vbulletin version? Do you need help doing it? I have dealt with 50 million mysql records and would be happy to help. But I am not thrilled by having CMs lock threads and point people to a two weeks old post that does not provide anything to look forward to. Further more you keep closing threads asking for official comment under the pretence that it does not cover Star wars. This is your community and ours. We need to be able to bring out certain issues to your attention. The General Forums are the place for that...a general comment and request for information. Feel free to once more close this thread without addressing it but the more you do that the more you alienate the players. You have a flaw...you are using outdated and not optimized software. The community is willing to help you so why the stone walling? Respectfully EDIT: as posted in one of my previous threads, vbulletin is able to maintain 5000 concurent connections without too much trouble. Only about 4000 new threads were created in the last 24 hours...that really is nothing in terms of load if I may say Edited January 1, 2012 by Amnolith
psychogobstopper
In a recent "Ask Me Anything" on Reddit, Community Manager Stephen Reid confirmed that a forum software update is forthcoming.
