ffsnonamesleft
I currently have a Lv46 SW Juggernaut and while I find it is ok for PVE stuff but in PVP whether that's open world/duels/warzones it feel severely gimped against ranged classes. The problem as I see it is basically melee is gimped versus range in SWTOR, melee combat in PVE can feel slightly clunky at the worst of times with camera issues/ability lag or broken animations/targetting, but in PVP that clunkiness is made unbearable when up against an opponent that actually moves. Now that's not because I'm a crap melee player (though I do normally rock mages in RPGS and regret my choice of trying something new in SWTOR), up 1v1 against another melee opponent I have a good or decent change of winning but against a ranged it's a different story. In WZ, I rarely get to kill one before I am shot at or shocked from from all angles and including blaster fire that magically follows me around corners as there is no line of sight. In 1v1 duels with Bounty Hunter/Sith Inquistor from my guild, I almost never win, it's far easier for them to keep away from me then for me to get close to them. For one thing, how hard would it be to give me Force Pull as well as Push? Then there's the whole marlaky with so many melee attacks requring that magic range/angle and most of my movesets don't work on the move where as a BH can basically strafe and circle shoot nonstop. It becomes so clunky/buggy half my moves don't go off. Once I get through my storyline which Bioware as always delivers quality, there's no great incentive for me to keep playing this character. Sure, I can do raids or harder missions with guild etc but this is my first MMO ever and I didn't sign up just to beat computer bosses, I signed up not only cos it was Star Wars and Bioware but I wanted to pwn players, real people behind the avatar. Ganking low level Republics only alleviates so far the frustration of being underpowered in pvp versus players of my own level/gear. A more detailed thread on what is wrong with the camera/targetting etc is here
SithFlo
I play a concealment operative and fighting range gives me 0 issues. I find it a lot easier to kill those that use range, actually. I think you just need more time playing your class and refining your skills. Don't give up yet.

I find it impossible to land half of my skills as a SS. Not to mention there are SO MANY WAYS TO LOS IN THIS GAME. People always claimed omg WoW arena all about LoS run around pillar blah blah. Well SWTOR took that idea TO THE XTREME!

A more detailed thread on what is wrong with the camera/targetting etc is here I agree with you about the bugginess of animations and ability activation, but that's a plague from which everyone suffers. It's just as bad for every AC. TBH, it sounds like you're keyboard-turning or possibly lagging. I have no difficulty whatsoever with keeping my target in the "cone" for my melee abilities. Also, what spec are you? If you want to effectively beat ranged classes, you need to spec to able to do it--which means more CC. I don't care much for people who complain about this type of thing. Look at the Smuggler/IA forums--there are so many QQ threads about not being able to get abilities off on melee classes because the melee class runs circles around them. You're either keyboard turning or lagging.
_Silversoth_
I'm a Juggernaut as well, loving the PvP so far. I don't feel like we are that gimped personally, we have quite a few mechanisms to slow or stop ranged players. Here is how I sometimes go about it: - Force Charge to close the gap. - If they pull away where I can't hit them, Forche Choke. - Force Scream and Saber Throw also work at a distance. - Force throw. This one may seem contradictory, but if you fling them against a wall or another object they won't fly very far and it takes them a couple of valuable seconds to get back up. - Chilling Scream (Not sure if that is the name for it, the one that is an AOE slow) is great for keeping them slowed down when everything else is on CD. I might also use this if i want to save something else like Force Choke for a better occasion such as when someone is above the flames in Huttball. - Fortunately, it feels like Force Charge doesn't have a terribly long cooldown and by the time I exhaust all the previous options its ready again. - Honorable mentions: Backhand that can stun and the AOE fear we have. I'm an Immortal specced Jugg so I suppose I might have more durability than most, but it seems to work fairly well for me. Happy New Years everyone! Ganking low level Republics only alleviates so far the frustration of being underpowered in pvp versus players of my own level/gear. A more detailed thread on what is wrong with the camera/targetting etc is here I completely agree. I think there are numerous reasons as to why Ranged has an advantage over Melee is this game but the biggest problem comes down to the way they've decided to "even out" the classes. For gameplay sake they've decided to eliminate the devastating affect a lightsaber strike would have on someone while significantly simplifying the aiming/composure skill needed to hit a moving target. If Im a Sith Assassin and I've just immobilized you with some force power and then swing my Saber at your head, I haven't lowered your HP pool I've decapitated you. Likewise if a Bounty Hunter has just thrown a grenade on a unsuspecting Jedi wearing only a robe that Jedi is scattered everywhere. We don't have lethality in this game we have Baton vs BB gun fights. Right now the BB gun is easier to employ correctly and therefore a little more effective. My hunch is that they'll get the balance right eventually but who knows.
