ThanderSnB
I've been playing SWTOR off and on since fall 2012, but I am still discovering things in the game. Yesterday, I was doing the Project Hexapod heroic on Balmorra-Empire for probably the thousandth time. I always skip as many mobs as possible because there is no bonus for this heroic. However, this time I accidentally aggroed a group I'm normally able to skip due to them randomly wandering to close. It turned out that this caused the champion colicoid to do a patrol. I don't remember ever seeing this before. The champion always stays near a computer console, and I wait to kill it until I install data spikes on all the terminals. This time the champion came up behind me and killed my low-level character. I have a pretty good idea how the game works most times, so it's not often I am surprised like this. Despite dying it was fun to discover a little quirk in this heroic. Did anyone else know this heroic worked like this? Also, has anyone else discovered something that's always been there but just found out about it now? Anyways, thanks for reading, have a good rest of the weekend, and I hope you reach all your goals in the game.
Bar-Da-Voya
I think he always patrols but any patrol enemy will only do so if a player is within 70m of them. Typically you are to far away for that enemy to patrol during most of the Heroic other than at the start. If you spend extra time at the start (i.e. killing a mob you accidently aggroed) the champion is close enough to you for a long enough time that you see his patrol course. Think of the World Bosses that have a patrol route (i.e. Gargath, on Hoth). They don't start moving until the first person is within 70m of them.
