Common 64-Bit Issues

Hello everyone!

SWTOR is now running with the 64-bit client! This was a colossal effort from the team on all fronts, and I cannot wait for you all to see all of the updates that will be coming to the game over time.

The move to 64-bit also means that some players may have to update settings on their sides. Below are common changes/issues we have seen since we’ve been testing 64-bit.

  • Your Antivirus program may pop up with an alert. Players are encouraged to update their firewall/AV settings to allow the app. You do not need to disable it.
  • Players may also need to remove compatibility settings as this was tied to seeing an empty server list upon log in.
    • These could be set on [installation directory]\launcher.exe or [installation directory]\swtor\retailclient\swtor.exe
    • Right click
    • Click Properties
    • Click the Compatibility tab
    • Uncheck “run this program in compatibility mode”
    • The above is being updated. Please see the comment below regarding compatibility mode and seeing an empty server list.

Should any other common tech issues be reported after 7.2.1 goes live, I will add to this list.

Thanks!

EDIT: Adding here that the system requirements have been updated to help consolidate info.

We're receiving reports of players experiencing start up crashes. Reiterating this from the reports we received during the PTS phase.

  • It is possible that the necessary DirectX 9 is not installed. Please install the June 2010 Direct X runtime. The download link for the June 2010 Direct X can be found here.
  • Once the files are saved (in any location you prefer), you must run the SETUP.exe file manually

We are receiving reports that players are running at 60 FPS despite having a different rate selected on the options menu. To resolve this, select another rate and then change it back to the desired setting.

Hi everyone,

We've received some reports of players who are experiencing flickering graphics/textures. In order to help us troubleshoot this issue further, we are asking for the following info:

  • Type of machine you have
  • Graphics card
    • Driver version of the card
      • If you go to to your Device Manager > Display adapters > click properties on your graphics card, you should be able to find this info
  • What version of Windows you have
  • Dxdiag file

Send all this info to support@swtor.com and be sure to include your account name write "Flickering graphics issue with 64-bit in the subject line!

Thank you!

Hello everyone,

This is a bit of a two-parter. We are asking players who are impacted by seeing an empty server list or flickering textures to do the following:

Set BOTH the launcher.exe and swtor.exe to the same combability mode used previously. We would like to see if 1) the server list populates and 2) if the flickering issues is resolved.

Location may vary, but you can normally find these files here:

  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\BioWare\star wars - the old republic\launcher.exe
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\BioWare\star wars - the old republic\swtor\retailclient\swtor.exe
  • Right click on launcher.exe and swtor.exe
  • Select Properties
  • Go to the Compatibility tab

Once this is done, please confirm whether or not this fixed your issue in the following threads:

Flickering textures thread

No servers listed thread

Thanks!
