Master Datacron (Pay to win, Instant level 70) level boosts should be locked away from new players

I know it will hurt Bioware's income, and I'll probably be persecuted for this opinion, but in order to use one, it should require that a character in your legacy has reached level 70.

Honestly Master Datacron's are not P2W.

1) You can always level normally, and do not need to pay anything to do some. This alone makes it Pay for speed the process up.

2) here is no P2W mechanic for character's under level 80. You'll still need to grind for gear at 80, because they never gave you BiS.

3) P2W means you can only get something from spending real life $ (which means not through free CC's), and there is no other way to get it.

Is there a reason for this (I can think of a few)?

There is, and mainly makes me sound like a bad person.

I am constantly meeting up with level 70s+ (mainly level 80s) that

1. Do 5k DPS in Flashpoints. In order to do 5k, you have to not even be trying, as even level 60s can get out a good 10k-15k DPS. It's certainly possible there are players out there who purposely sit around during fights and let others carry them, but I want to give everyone the benefit of the doubt, that most of these low DPS level 80s aren't actually doing that. Level 80s are in FPs for endgame currency and conquests points, so I would imagine they'd want to blow past these things as quickly as possible. I can only imagine level 70+ players doing 5k have a plethora of abilities spammed across their unmanaged hotbars, and they have no idea what's at their disposal or how to use them. Having players work themselves to level 80 from level 1 ensures they learn their arsenal. If they are new to the game and you drop full skillset on them, they are overwhelmed by what's available, and they definitely won't automatically have their hotbars set up to a rotation that works comfortably for them. I've played many Assassins from level 1 to 80. If I used a token today on a new Assassin, I could easily optimize my hotbar and know how to use that new level 80 toon.

2. Make huge mistakes in early flashpoints like Mandalorian Raiders and Red Reaper and then they say things like "Sorry, I never done this before".

3. Sign up for ops when wearing full 306  gear or below.

I did Explosive Conflict the other week, and we had some stealth players sleep some mobs so we could skip large groups. There was a merc in the group that kept using a CC stun on one of the mobs aggrooing everyone and nullifying what the stealthers have accomplished. This happened about 3 times, and when someone yelled at them they complained "I'm sorry every time I stun it aggros them"... Someone told them "Well then don't do that", and sure enough they did it once more. How has a level 80 player not learned the difference between a sleep and stun, or that their stun aggros what they shoot with it and everything near them.

I carried a level 73 guild member though some flashpoints the other night. We used voice chat on Discord, and they made it clear they didn't know anything about the game as I had to explain basic concepts that a level 10 player would learn.

Edit:

This has happened once, a few months ago, but I actually ended up in a flashpoint with a someone who didn't know how they had the out of combat heal/recharge. I can't remember how it exactly went down, but I think they were constantly being at extreme low health, and someone yelled at them for not ever using it, they responded they didn't have such ability.

I never used this token, i have some on my account (bound to my account) and i allways level normaly.

i must agree with @Traceguy.

this boost you can use if you know how to play your chars.

i play since 2011, and i learn allways something new in this game and like i said, i never use this token.

most of the time in need to start healing (as a heal) after the tank gets the aggro from the enemy, so i need to wait or i have the aggro.

if there a bad tanks, its not easy for me to get not the aggro from enemys or even bosses in ops.

pls excuse my english, its not my native language.

Unfortunately, even requiring them to have leveled a high toon up naturally won’t fix this.  Leveling up does not require you to learn all or even most of your skills.  I had someone who was positive they didn’t have the ability to interrupt mobs.   They were max level and it took time to show them they did have that ability.  And according to them, that would have made leveling up so much easier.

Someone can easily level up one or more toons to 80 without ever stepping in a FP.  They could follow your suggestion and still walk into a FP they don’t know with a boosted too.   Truthfully, with how RNG goes using group finder, they could be using it and that is the first time they ever hit that FP.  I don’t actually remember the last time Red Reaper piped for me.

If they are in full 306 gear I doubt they used a boost.  I could be wrong but I don’t think any of them give 306 when you get boosted.

Max level chars can solo vet fp, you don't even need to be max if you're half decent at your class.

It doesn't really matter if you get someone grouped with you who isn't doing even a quarter of the dps they should be.

Your suggestion won't solve any problems.  The game is faceroll easy now, so you can reach 80 easily without ever using anything more than basic attack.    A lot of new players seem to end up just spamming whatever aoe they think looks the best.

It's also pretty common now, especially with the game setting companions to 'heal' by default, to never use dcds, move out of aoe, or even heal up out of combat.

Summary: It's not the boost that's the problem.  Removing the option from new players won't improve anything.

Dude, the game is 11 years old, give me a break. I have 20+ level 80 endgame geared toons. So do most long-time players. What exactly are you "winning" by plunking down your $20 so you can be strong during the story?
