Sir-steve Posted November 14, 2022 Share Posted November 14, 2022 (edited) Thought I'd fire up PTS....haven't had it up since 7.0 or 7.1. Downloaded 40 gigs, installed, launcher crashed, and now I'm on the 4th attempt to just launch the normal game but its in a loop telling Checking for update, timing out and giving me a 961 code. I've tried changing the setting so it doesnt enable PTS....doing a repair etc. No idea how to break this cycle so I can just play the darn game and to heck with PTS. You are not experiencing full downloads, rather, you are seeing a sync with your internal files. I'm sorry but this is simply wrong, you can see from your network traffic that you actually redownload 1 whole gigabyte each time you swap from live to PTS (or restart the game after closing PTS - since launcher will automatically select the live environnement at launch). When you play with a very bad 500kb/s connection, that swap actually takes over half an hour. This is not only a files sync. And the reason is simple => This is due to the Movies Assets not being 100% identical between Live and PTS, but sharing one folder. For that reason, the launcher will think you have wrong movies files and redownload 1 gb of movie assets each time you will swap between both environnements. (There is actually only 1 movie that is different between both version, for no apparent reason) There is a similar issue (but to a worse extent) when you change your language. This is still terrible and didn't happen until you pushed the latest version of the launcher. My ISP bandwidth tracking would disagree. Thankfully I have unlimited data but I'm sure others don't. And this doesn't solve for the hours spent dealing with a crashing launcher and the need for a full reinstall just to be able to get back in game. It get stuck in a 10-15 minute loop of downloading, checking, downloading every time I switch from PTS to live and I'm sure it said 5gb not one. This never happened with PTS before the new launcher. Going back and forth between the servers will always have this syncing period with them. is it possible to take live from being the first to update ? what I am saying, I want to go to PTS, but every time I launch, open, start the game, it'll update live first before I can select that I want to go to PTS. and probably some people will be able to backup and copy over the files with the launcher open to avoid the re download but I think there is not many people currently in the test server to have this kind of "gating". The less time it takes to switch environments the better testing comparing them you will have. Please tell the person in charge of the test build to skip the shared movie files. Thanks A. Any place with data caps like Australia won't bother with the PTS given the CONSTANT downloading of files. The short term fix would be update the launcher to check to see if the account settings for the PTS is "yes", and force the user to select which bases, Live or PTS, before doing checks. The long term would be to actually rename the files so there isn't a conflict. Having to download 2 gigs is NOT worth my effort to try to give feedback. (Yes, 3. 1 for the live check before I can select PTS, then it downloads the 2nd gig for PTS, and I can play.) Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
novemberelise Posted February 16, 2023 Share Posted February 16, 2023 I’m late to this topic (but I’m also late to trying to get onto the PTS). I could also be responding to the wrong topic, but I can’t figure out where I should be responding. This need for the launcher to “check for updates” and do another 1-2gb download every time you open it or swap environments after having downloaded the PTS is infuriating enough, but I have not even been able to get the PTS to actually launch at this point. It‘s constantly updating/downloading, then it finally will launch the live server (even though I had PTS selected), so I close out and select PTS again, and it has to check for updates and download again, and then not actually launch the PTS yet again.
