Upgrade PC

First off I know I got ripped off.

I have an Alienware comp from 2008, it was my first gaming pc and I don't know tech stuff that well, I know better now.

I am getting some issues with my processor I believe. The fan with slow down at points (I say fan because thats what it sounds like. Its a whir the will increase and decrease with the games enviroments or player movements.) and will cause the game to lag. Its not so much continuous lag as a stop then jump forward., so a spike. This coinsides with the fan sound. When its wihirring fast the games fine, albiet the loud noise, but when that fan dies a little it will cause slowness. I am going to give the insides and fan a good cleaning tonight then consider a new processor.

My second question is if I can reuse the case and other componets if I just upgrade what is necessary ie psu, heatsink etc. I am a layman in these terms so sorry for any misnomenclature. Here are my specs:

Yes you can upgrade your computer, and reuse the case. Your motherboard will limit to what level you can upgrade.
