Separate General Chat into actually content relevant requests and social talk

Hi everyone,

I like the social side of the game when it comes to doing group content (fps, ops etc.), however I can do nicely without the General Chat conversation. I find the general chat most of times extremely annoying and immersion-breaking. However, I have to watch it in order to see who calls out for groups (that is the classical LFG, LFM, or however expressed). So there is no way to avoid general chat (please correct me if I am mistaken). It would be extremely useful if there actually was a (exclusively) content related general chat where people post their grouping request. This would allow players like me to deactivate the "social" general chat for good.

Cheers,

A simple way would be to create a whole new LFG chat. But I doubt it'll ever come. Even then it'll still pop up in general chat. Just as trade requests still end up in general chat. There is something similar to that called Endgame Chat. Simply type /cjoin Endgame in chat.

God I wish general chat has a couple areas to go to.

RECRUITMENT CHAT

TRADING CHAT

etc.. just those 2 would save an assload of spam.

Plus people go there if they want to hear it.

That's a player-created thing, though.

And in general the problem with the proposed channel split has been highlighted by several posts here - what would *force* people to put LFG calls on the new channel? (Think: nobody much uses the existing Trade chat (? /3 ?) for trades, so what makes anyone think people would use /lfg for LFG/LFM calls?)

You also need to consider the 'impulse buy' effect. That is, for the same reason that stores have displays of 'impulse buys' - chocolate bars, mini-flashlights, etc - next to the checkouts, you'll get people advertising WTS or LFG on the chat channel anyway, in case someone wants to 'impulse' buy or join a group.

I realize that chat can be rather annoying at times, but I find it easy enough to just ignore most of it and focus of the LFGs, LFMs, while not reading the fluff that goes along with it. 🙂

(While occasionally adding a bit of fluff myself 😇 )

In some ways it's surprising how, after all these years of people being familiar with the word "troll", people still get upset about what people say in chat. It's like, do people still think that Microsoft is calling them to help fix their computer? 🙄

What server are you on? On SF, we have the Allies channel that you can post LFGs on. To get on it, type in /cjoin Allies. It shows up no matter where you are: in an op, in a fp, somewhere on some planet, in a wz, wherever. I don't know about other servers, but i suspect they have a commonly recognized channel for such purposes. Oh there's some social talk and other distracting things, but a lot of people do use it for the intended purpose. If you are on a different server, just ask around and hopefully someone can tell you what it is.

Which server is that for?
