bstucker
So I have 4 or 5 characters on the same server, and I created them all when I started early access. On each one, I added all the others as friends so I could send gear between them. Then the game patched one day, and when I looked at my friends lists they were all cleared out. Now when I try to add them as friends again, it says they do not exist. I can assure you, they do still exist. Someone in general chat said they have to be logged in to add them as friend a second time. How am I supposed to add them when they are logged in, I would have to have both logged in at the same time which can't happen. What gives, am I just screwed? Solmyr
I've never tried adding my alts to my friends list, however I know to add anyone else to the list requires them to be logged in at the time.

I haven't experienced this issue, either, but, if I remember correctly, I didn't try to add the alt until after the last patch. Maybe it's an issue only for those who had friended their alts before the patch. Submit a ticket in-game.
Kaseryn
They don't have to be online to add as friend. I have done it. That said... There is an issue on accounts that have re-rolled character names. You will not be able to receive email from alts and when you try to add them as Friends, you get "XXX does not exist". Search the in-game knowledge base for "mail" and read the "re-rolled character" thread. Known issue.

I am aware that they are not supposed to have to be online as I added them the first time when they weren't, but that's not stopping me from getting the "does not exist" message now. I have not re-rolled the names. I will dig in the known issues list as you suggested and open a ticket if I can't figure it out. Thanks for the help. fettpett
I've run into this as well, but I found that if you mail your something to your character then it will add it to your friends list

IxCptMorganxI
Theres a weird issue where you can't add friends unless they're on sometimes. I've been able to add some ALTS but not the others. I couldn't add one of my brothers toons until he was actually logged in. Just a weird glitch we're dealing with right now.
BlackRifle
Wait, this went way over my head. Why would anyone add their own alts to their own friends list? Alts are your own characters on your own account. I thought friends list was for adding other players. Because of this, I never even thought about adding my own alts to my own friends list, not even in other MMOs. Would someone please explain? fettpett
you add them to your friends list for easier mailing. without addon's that help with this, it's pretty much the best way to do it.

Easier mailing? How does adding your own alts to your own friends list make mailing easier? I never found it a challenge to send mail to any of my alts and none of my alts were ever added to my own friends list. I simply click on a mailbox, click on Compose Message, then type in the name of my alt. I never had an issue with this and I never found it a challenge. Sorry, not trying to be a pain, I just really don't get it yet.

Synesism
I actually do this so I don't accidentally type the name wrong and send my mail to another player by mistake. The autofill makes sure I don't mess up.

Also that way i don't have to have their names written down for access to how to spell the name. I'm notoriously bad at remembering how to character names. I do wish that they would be friendly to addon developers.
