I been reading these forums and see alot of B.S about taking eliments of other games like LOTRo housing or WOW's arena and ranking for PVP or warhammers online PVP skill line and Implementing it into this game.

Quit trying to make the DEV's waste time recreating other games into this 1.

THIS IS STAR WARS PEOPLE!

Truly if you want those elements go back to those games.

Bioware made a fantastic game here and they don't need to be catering to the B.S of you guys wanting every damn game out there roled into this 1.

You don't need housing you have ships. You don't need PVP rankings in the STAR WARS universe it was WAR! Not ranks from kills that drove the people onward.

So stop it and let the dev's work on original ideas and let the games of the past DIE!

I see people begging for things to be implemented from SWG. Is that not Star Wars?

SWG stopped being Star Wars when SOE took a whizz all over the time-line and Canon and then said

"We aren't making a MMO for Star Wars fans we are Making a MMO for MMO players." (Raph Koster later said it was the single most stupid thing he ever said in his life)

SWG vast majority of players hated Star Wars but loved their sandbox, most of the actual Star Wars fans left during Beta or shortly after launch.

I know I was a beta tester and Guild Leader On Kettemoor.

People want MMORPG features, not Lord of the Rings/Warcraft/etc. features.

SWTOR is an MMORPG.

Your argument is invalid.

(Also, my hair is a bird, hence the hood to hide it.)

No every MMO need to have the exact same features as your pet MMO...if those features are already on another MMO...why not just go play that?

Popular features from other MMOs should absolutely be added to SwTor, with whatever SwTor twists and sensibilities are necessary.

That's called progress. I expect new MMOs to use the good idea of other good MMOs. Some things (like a LFG tool of some sort) is requisite for the modern MMO player. Not having it is silly; not learning from others' mistakes and trials is foolish.

It would be like yelling because Mass Effect wasn't a side scroller. Those bastards stole 3D from Tomb Raider! They need to start back at the basics.

There really is no point in paying attention to the forums. They are not the be all end all on what shapes this or any game.

Forum users are 10% of any games population at best. I am the only person in my entire guild that even visits the forums. Most folks on here claiming they hate the game and complaining about the smallest detail are just Trolls. The are bored at work and trying to get a rise out of people. That is what Trolls do.

There are some legitimate complaints on here though, and they need to be and will be addressed by the devs in due time. In the meantime if reading the forums gets you that upset the best thing to do is not read them. The fate of the game will not be decided by the Troll that has just posted his 30th "This game will fail and here are my reasons why" thread.

With that attitude Bioware will be merging servers sooner than many think.

Not really there is a hug demographic that doesn't want to Raid or die and Doesn't want to sit around Coruscant waiting for their Dungeon to pop.

See Bioware did these things called metrics... actually started doing them before the game was announced; they picked a target audience and built the game with those people in mind.

What we are seeing here is the dungeon runner /raider crowd having a hard time accepting it.

There have been a lot of threads giving criticism and praise of this game, with a common theme that the voice overs and story content is often space barred through to get to more content, especially end game content.

And the more I see it the more clear it becomes that this game is not trying to be Star Wars WoW.

For 20 years this franchise had a huge following based on three movies. That really is around 5 hours of story. But they would be watched again and again over those twenty years.

Then the updates, and the prequels, and all the bad decisions, and ultimately it has a bigger following.

The Old Republic is the culmination of the biggest investment in a single Star Wars game title ever.

I can't imagine that the board rooms of LA and EA and BW really were aiming this as a WoW killer and stealing 10 million subscribers, when there are SO MANY MORE Star Wars fans out there.

This 4th pillar Story is not going away. It will be in every addition. This is not a sandbox. Being a Mon Cal or Wookie is not just a skin, hence why they are not character choices.

There are serious problems with the game mechanics at the moment, but other requests for future additions to the game need story justifications to even get a toe in the door from above.

Couldn't agree more. It is the constant whining and harping that a game needs to be "more like [insert MMO here]" that kills the game. As I have said from the start, the DEVS need to stay consistent with their vision of the game and not try to put in "features" that are meant to coddle to a vocal minority. I have already seen a coupld of nerfs in this game solely based upon a vocal few that have complained about something. JUST PLAY THE GAME AS IS and most importantly LET ME PLAY THE GAME AS IS.

There is nothing wrong with people suggesting a feature they enjoyed in a previous game be brought into this one. If you and many others enjoyed that in another game, well maybe it would make this game a little more fun as well.

The forum is looked at for input. It may not be huge. Its certainly not likely to change the entire development scheme of the game. But that doesn't mean that those users don't have a right to post and request a feature they would find entertaining. If you don't like the idea, post in the thread and say "I don't think I would appreciate developers wasting time on this feature".

Actually their target audience was the WoW players, there are numerous interviews where they blatantly and at times arrogantly espouse this.

Having a good UI is coddling players? Having something as simple as target of target is coddling players? Having guild banks is coddling players? Having less bugs is coddling players?

Thank the gaming Gods you do not speak for the majority of us.

No they said there were certain elements in WoW that were a Touchstone in MMO design; people with poor comprehension skills drew their own conclusions.

Not hardly I smacked that one down quite easily.

No, you really didn't.

As to the topic; and most of the responders...

Saying an MMO is or isn't due to the inclusion or lack of certain features is incredibly ridiculous, and shows a great misunderstanding of the industry, and an incredibly myopic view of the genre.

Enjoy the game or keep looking for a game you enjoy. No sense in whining on the forums of the game you hate. I wish more people would understand.

Or enjoy the game and express your opinion on the forums about what could make it even better. The forums are the community’s voice. BW have even stated that this is the place to request new features. Talking about how the improve the game is not “whining” furthermore accusing people of whining is only going to encourage arguments and add to the already masses of pointless noise.

Why wouldn't you put in the features that makes another MMO successful along with what innovations you already have. Any other product market would do the same thing, not sure why MMO's wouldn't as well. Especially if you're trying to pull people from that certain MMO.
