Let us completely reset story progress for a character

This has been a constant request for almost 10 years now. I wish the developers would take it seriously.

Let us reset the story progress on our characters. Your character stays the same but all story flags are wiped and as far as the story goes, you're a new character who has to start over on the appropriate starting world.

In the past, I could kind of see not wanting player to just stay on their maxed characters because new players want people to play with and just playing with each other may not have provided the optimal experience. This hasn't been valid in many years, though. With level sync and with group content being designed to fit groups of diverse levels, the only level gated activity left is PVP and I don't think slightly faster pops for 10-42 level PVP is worth denying us this. If anything, this would bring the game back to life on many planets. Instead of sitting on the fleet, waiting for pops, we could all be running stories. You'd see players everywhere. All of the old 1-50 planets would feel alive. This might even breathe a little life back into world PVP.

A lot of us don't want to start new characters just to replay the old stories. We are attached to the characters we have. The unique names, looks, and histories of those characters we have invested time into. For a lot of us, those original class stories were the strongest part of the solo experience and not letting us replay that content is a massive waste of material that you guys worked so hard on.

If it were only allowed for subscribers, then the feature would add further value to the monthly subscription too.

Please let us reset story progress on characters and let us play through the entire game's story from the beginning. Thank you.

What makes you think that the reasons for and against it have changed even a tiny amount during those ten years?

I'm smiling, because I see the next post already:

Please restore my character that I "accidentally" reset

Activating any new story content comes with a warning and this has been the case now for years.

Try reading the big paragraph in the middle of my opening post? lol

Because that worked so well on ALL the other content, where people are warned, over and over, yet still come to the forums to cry because they weren't expecting it.....

Let's take a look:

In the past, I could kind of see not wanting player to just stay on their maxed characters because new players want people to play with and just playing with each other may not have provided the optimal experience.

Unvarnished speculation as to their reasons, of course.

This hasn't been valid in many years, though. With level sync and with group content being designed to fit groups of diverse levels,

It's less well-suited to that than you think. High-level characters do, regardless of the existence of Level Sync, still have a substantial power (here I'm not talking about the SWTOR stat called "Power") advantage over "at-level" characters for various reasons that have been discussed widely to debunk the endless "Uberdarth Megapower slain by a K'lor Slug on Korriban" threads.

the only level gated activity left is PVP and I don't think slightly faster pops for 10-42 level PVP is worth denying us this.

It probably isn't even vaguely a goal, but I've wandered off into speculation, just like you have. (It's an invented reason, and therefore easy to shoot down, and not really worth discussing either way.)

If anything, this would bring the game back to life on many planets. Instead of sitting on the fleet, waiting for pops, we could all be running stories.

I've been having fun recently running stories even without the proposed feature. I make new characters to see new things in stories, or to see old things again, or whatever.

You'd see players everywhere. All of the old 1-50 planets would feel alive. This might even breathe a little life back into world PVP.

Those lowbie planets *do* feel alive, although I sincerely doubt that anything much will breathe life into world PvP, and it certainly wouldn't be rejuvenated by a sudden injection of maxbie characters who can gank whoever else they like (that isn't also a maxbie).

A lot of us don't want to start new characters just to replay the old stories. We are attached to the characters we have.

And, indeed, those are the ever-recurring reasons cited for adding the feature, and as such, haven't changed since forever.
