Mon Calamari, you're next! *points in heroic fashion*

If you understand what the titles references, I love you, ya beautiful weeb!

But, I'm starting to think that this could be the next playable species. I didn't think we would see Nautolans become playable, I thought Togrutas would be as "alien" as we would get, but I think Nautolans opens things up further, and eventually Mon Calamari. Some armor sets won't show up on them, obviously, just as Kriea's hood being down on a Nautolan. I also don't think they would "lose" a popularity contest.

I'm still holding out hope that we get Evocii playable, but I think Mon Calamari are the most likely candidates

Aren't they a bit too alien? If nothing else I imagine Bioware would be trying to keep any new playable species within the constraints of the facial animations already present. I would assume that the heads of Mon Calamari are too dissimilar to be seamlessly integrated into the existing cutscenes.

Nope: If they don't fit the existing voice tracks, you aren't going to get them as a character option.

Oh my mistake, I thought they just had to speak basic!

Main problem i see for them becoming playable species is with their forearms, that don't fit with the in-game armors, and would probably need to rework all of them or the sleeves would have lots of clipping issues considering the shape of their forearms. Considering the shape of their hands tool, they'd be unable to wear gloves as well.

Romance scenes would probably look a bit weird too.

Everything I put Guss in got the sleeves cut off, so that tech is already in. It's also needed to avoid clipping with gloves.

As for romance, so many kiss scenes are two heads next to each other snapping at air, while weird for humans, that seems perfectly fine for a fish people mating ritual.

Can't remember who said there were clipping issues with some sleeves on Guss, so that would probably be a problem for player Mon Calamari.

And considering how many complaints they got for the Nautolans, there's a possibility they'll go for a more human looking species next. Especially since Echani and Zeltron seems to pop the most when asking for new species that also fit the PC requirements (so not counting the obvious Wookies or Trandoshans or the likes).

Sarkhai would be great too, except they are normally not force-sensitive (Nadia Grell being a notable exception).

Would they make sense in any other class? Maybe Sith Inquisitor or Smuggler, but I doubt any would serve Imperial Intelligence or the Republic Militairy given that it's a new world to the wider galaxy, right?

They have all the other boxes ticked, so I think they can over look that, and have it as not normal, but it does happen.

Honestly I'd like more options for existing species, zabrak and twi'leks for example.

Same. Haven't folks been asking for Major Anri's goggles for player Twi'lek since before she was in the game?

Eh. If they ever decided to make filler content that wasn't as player class focused like letting us create different alien species that don't use voice lines but let us play through older content from alternative perspectives like a special Forces Chagran rising through the ranks (this was right after False Emperor) that assists with the Imperial operations on Makeb vs a Bothan Bodyguard that is tasked with assisting with helping an influential family on Makeb find out what's going on ahead of time to evacuate while the main story heroes/villains do their thing in the background.

These mini-alien classes would be species locked to each side until some point like SoR and Eternal Empire where you play through the gaps where your main heroes are off on Zakuul and Wild Space. Something to help players with variety, an alternative means to earning CQ points, the devs get to test the limitations of adding new species and it could be rolled out in whatever manner they want. I just feel this would be a more feasible idea than just dropping a wookie or Mon Calamari into the base classes and expecting the playerbase not to mock Corso kissing and clipping through a fish.
