End Game Loot System- Needs Improvement

The gearing system has changed many times over the years in SWTOR. The way it is now confuses so many new players its a deterrent that causes some to leave before they even start. Item rating is dull and unappealing to most players. Its a system of numbers that general ends up getting tiring seeing gear jump 1 level. The way it is now really does not encourage group content or guilds unfortunately. Some will say "Well its nice to be able to get gear without group content." If this is your view MMOs are not your kind of game. They should be designed around community and achievements through grouping which in turn encourages players to find guilds and communities creating the atmosphere many MMOs have.

One thing all great MMOs tend to do is evolve their end-game so there is something to achieve for the players. Doing harder content or group content should provide greater benefits. Single one time drops of rare or epic proportion. Yes every game does this and it works because its a great way to do things. I know that rare mounts and more 306 gear drops from HM OPs but this is talking about actual armor drops or epic/legendary armorings, enhancements, mods or more that should only be achieved in VM or HM Operations/Flashpoints. Also real PvP gear would be great...

For those who say that this would be a big advantage, yes of course it would be and hence why to work towards it.

Ideas for End Game Loot

+VM 308 Items HM 312 Items Legendary Enhancments/Armoring/Mods1 per boss VM 2 per Boss HM Rolls

+Useful Tactical Drops

+Legendary Augments

+Iokath Recombinators!

+Legendary Weapons (Blasters, Cannons, Lightsabers, ECT) So much to be desired here.

+More Rare/Epic Crafting Materials

+Legendary Armor Sets with very good abilities

These are just a few ideas.

With the influx of players I would love to keep more involved by working towards something together. Completing OPs/FP are fun but they should also be rewarding. Not everything in todays gaming market has to be handed to a player so easily. Sometimes we like to work for it :)

If I understood correctly, what you propose may be against BW general idea to make the game easier every year. The recent changes confirm it. Game is constantly redesigned for a generation craving quick actions, short quests, good rewards while avoiding to much sweat and struggle. Edited by Grendel_Echo

In a way yes. Haha and I think your being sarcastic? Do I feel the force (Reaches out with baby yoda hand)... This whole belief MMOs are dying isn't really the case when its MMO are changing pushing players away. Also in todays market how many are there now compared to 2006 when the real first MMO came out. Many MMO veterans are achievement hunters. We all hate vicious grinds but need some sense of accomplishment I believe. Im not saying take the easy leveling out or the quests for solo. If you want to enjoy solo there should be a way. But the end game in SWTOR has never been great. There is little or nothing to work for once you get 306. Then its get some expensive augments from crafting/GTN in this bizarre crafting system. Sure for founders or people who have played since launch this is easy enough but imagine coming into the game trying to figure this out. I would be confused and I have ran into many who are confused.

The proposed change really is simple and would take little to adjust in game. I would also love to see stats get away from the 1000s. So my Mastery is at 12,000 and endurance 15,000 my health is.... geez that alot of zeros.... Its simple math so just adjust everything downward. 100/200/500 cap on stats would be fantastic!!! What a stim would only give +2 Mastery? Yeah if that +2 is the same as 240... Sorry went on a rant of simplicity.

Noice rewards to make the game rewarding is all I'm asking. MMO gods please hear me. I know thy sit on cushion seat in said office space. Please adjust programming in accord with thy will so people can play much longer with much more to accomplish.

No, because that's what we had before, high level stuff locked behind content most people can't reach. Not to mention the damage it would do to pvp. You'd have people who could do HM+ coming in to pvp and wrecking the place, while pvp'rs who can't do HM+ losing out.

Isn't that basically what the new augs are, and look at the hassle from that decision.

Again, we have that, and look what's happened

no, not extra abilities, armour that looks good, and is coveted , yes, but nothing that gives an advantage.

There is plenty of stuff out there for groups, and more rewards would be great, but at least make them cosmetic, so no one gets an unfair advantage, just because they can do the content, versus a person who can't

Content was not in question the loot and rewards are.

PvP has gone down hill since they went away from PvP specific gear. I’m not even talking about that. PvP is already way unbalanced with an edge to dps and a bad ranking system of 4v4.

Regardless the point is not how much content but why no one does it. Why does everyone run Hammer Station or TC all the time. Because the same stuff drops no matter what you do. Content is skipped and the players who rush to 306 get there and leave soon realizing there is nothing to achieve. To say this would unbalance the game is on the developers. Every MMO does this to make the game enjoyable. If your a solo player on an MMO I have some advice. Don’t play a Massive MULTIPLAYER online game.

End Game - Needs Improvement

Loot System - Needs Improvement

f.i.x.t.

to be clear, each needs their own unique solution and maintenance /update efforts.

Any time the two have been integrated (in this game), the results have been.. less than ideal.

They may coordinate changes to coincide with each other on rare occasion, but never should one depend on the other to quantify its existence.

We can have new end game delivered without requiring new shiny things to complete it.

If one requires the other, then the devs have failed, period.

If the devs feel it is time to gently press the easy button and slide us into a "welfare epic's era" (usually right before a new expansion pack - not a content update - is released), this can be done with a gradual introduction of newer (and relatively easier to acquire) items and whatnot to facilitate this transition so the casuals can then experience things as they wish - but still within specified limits and without completely breaking mechanics or causing desync because they overtuned the players with new gears.

Other games have managed to understand, embrace, and maintain development to this process cycle years ago.

Why SWTOR manages to fail to grasp or maintain this remains one of the omniverse's great mysteries.

I agree with this completely. Last time I came back to this game and saw that change I kind of already knew what the outcome was going to be once I reached the top.

The Ops and FP's in this game are GREAT! If you are running the top difficulty level Ops or FP then you should have a chance at those super rare drops. That is why people run those. As far as solo players not being able to get top level gear, I am sorry but this is an MMO and if you want the best level gear then you should make more friends and run some Ops.

I have once again come back and this time around I am trying to look at the endgame in a different way like running Ops for a chance at a drop for a slightly better mod for my gear but it is not the same. I started a thread about this last time I was here.

My vote is please bring back rare loot in Higher difficulty Ops and FP's.

Not everyone has the time, or even the desire to run those types of content, some people can't (in my case my guild does run prog, but they do 16 man and I have severe lag due to how poorly optimized this game is when it comes to group content if I join their prog team I'll be literaly a hinderance to them). Allowing the entire playerbase to progress on their own pace is not bad, I'm not saying I don't mind there being exclusivity when it comes to master mode content. I don't mind never getting Wings of the Architect of the Dread Master's Crest, or that new mount from Dxun Master Mode. In fact, if they made those things accessible, I would be right there with you because those things should remain exclusive. However, I don't wish my own progression to be blocked merely because I can't join a prog team that raids for 4 hours each night, I enjoyed the Spoils of War system. Min-maxing my characters and finding what works for me was great, I don't mind if master mode raiders do have an easier time, I do not wish the possibility of progression for me to be removed. It was a fun experience, and I'd hate to lose it.

Nope. It's perfect the way it is. If anything, all sets should be available on the vendor and none should be op drop only.

You're trying to push your view of what a MMO should be and clearly, SWTOR isn't the MMO for you then. This game encourages alts and casual play, and everything you want goes against that.

But yes - you should get extra stuff from ops, and you already do with crafting mats, mounts and those sets that you can't find on the vendor.

Endgame content like NiM raiding exists for two reasons:

  1. To keep things interesting for people who crave a challenge.
  2. To provide bragging rights for people who want to brag about such things.

The first group does not need special lot, because the boss fights are their own reward.

The second group is best served by cosmetic items, because the point is to show off.

HM and NiM bosses should drop more exclusive, binds-to-legacy-on-pickup:

  • Dyes
  • Color crystals
  • Cosmetic armor
  • Cosmetic weapons
  • Pets
  • Vehicles
  • Flairs
  • Toys
  • Decorations
  • Titles
  • Emotes
  • Appearance Unlocks
  • Companion Customizations
  • Weapon tunings

It's a game, not a second job. Adding more grind doesn't make it a great game. Grinding like crazy to get some decent gear and the next patch/expansion arrives...how encouraging! Some may have started playing this game for the story and because it's not that grindy, like others. I didn't bother to try other similar games (MMO) because of this. You know time is a limited resource. Some have jobs and other things to take care of. Current systme is quite accessible for new players and easier to understand. It's a game, not a job.
