Hey.

During my absence, i played many other MMORPG's ouyt there... All cutting out options and features to "Make it more accessible or balanced" and so forth.. I think some of ypu know what i mean..

After watching some SW movies, i decided i want to play this game for a while, but it has been disappointment after another..

Last i played, SWTOR was a kind of bastion for having some options and mechanics that make sense and stuff to improve.. What did i found out they did.. Or shoul i say players did to the game?

-No more talent trees.

These were a big thing to build my character as i wish them to be... Many options to customise and make the character fit your idea of who he or she is and to tune it to your own playstyle.

-Cover ability

This was one thing that made me mostly choose Smuggler or agent... I mean a good combatant knows not to stanbd tall in line of fire.. They take cover just like Smugglers and agents did... Now its apparently just for Gunslinger and Sniper... My opinion on cover was, that it should have been extended to all classes.. maybe not the lightsaber users.. They dont need it, but a soldoer not taking cover in combat to defeat enemies is a stupid soldier, yet we have this stupid soldier on Republic side.. Yea, go ahead and stand tall in line of fire and see how long ypu can survive.. Ability that should have been for all, was cut for less than it was to begin with. Not gonna play gunslinger, since i hate dual wield compensation for shortcomings and snipers.. Well i just dont like Imperials.

-RP Servers

Last i played, iwas in RP server.. Now we are merged with all players.. Last i played, i stumbled upon people doing RP quite often. Solo or in groups.. During last week i have been back, i have not seen a single player doing any kind of RP.. Guess they are in those so called ciustom chat channels doing RP... Really, if CHAT was all that RP is, we could do it in plain text over mIrc being old fashioned... Not to mention when i try to solo RP my character.. acting like normal person would, i am constantly harassed by apparently Non RP players by either lolling or trying to constantly challenge me to duels or just jumping all over my space wher i just try to mind my own business.. I cant even solo rp now without being griefed upon.

-No more base classes

Base class playing was a nice challenge and a way for smuggler for example to keep using just one pistol and having an aproriate challenge as well.. This is the least bothering change however and i can easily live without it, but it still is one less option of choosing my playstyle..

-General easiness of everything

Now nothing seems to challenge me. I just started a new character and i have only died once... And that was just to see how long it takes to actually die in battle... After getting my companion on heal mode, dying is impossible, i am on god mode. Everything is too easy. I did a flashpoint solo yesterday and i remember them giving a bit of challenge no matter what it was.. A minor challenge, but challenge non the less and the bosses actually needed my thinking of what i do when i solo.

-No sense of accomplishment

Due to previous point, when i am in no danger to die in battle, there is no sense of accomplishment.. With no options to tweak a class with talents, i cant feel the sense of accomplishment when i do an unorthodox build to suit my character biography. I am railroaded to everything.

-Exploration quests hidden

It took my some time to actually notice, rthat these are not actually removed, but i needed to check an option on map to allow these to show. Why are these hidden in the first place? Are players now scared of stories and need to be protected from experiencing them? How about new players that did not even know these exist in the first place? They are not told in any clear way, that there are more stories than your class story. It is a shame and bit of a waste of voice acting as well. Thankfully these can be enabled again.

In any case, why? Why every damned game has to go the same route? Dont people want any options in games anymore? No challenge? Is it the neverending battle for balance, that is actually pointless?

Still, the stories are nice, but i mostly miss options and RP friendly environment... Character actions like take cover which make sense when ytou play as character, not as a person behind the screen. How classes work and how options are, it would make a very stupid looking SW movie now... I'd like the game go back to more options and more RP flavour and less efficiency and stuff like that. I miss the game this was on the year it launched when it allready was pale shadow of Galaxies, but still much more than it is SWTOR is now.

Well to address a few points:

RP servers. There are no longer enough RP players to warrant separate servers. It's as simple as that. You may have noticed there are no PvP servers anymore either. There are still RP guilds though so there is still RP going on but you'll have to ask around to find people.

As for the quest markers. It's always a performance issue to have things turned off but also because new players won't get overwhelmed so there is that. And well XP values are such that you do not need to do them so it's a niche activity, ergo it's not turned on automatically.

No more base classes. Well there was a lot of confusion about the classes apparently, mostly from new players. I suppose some people enjoyed leveling with a base class but it was never meant that way and so again this is not something that a lot of people care about. In fact I'll wager there are more people who are happy with this change than unhappy. And that's how it often works in MMOs.

I do agree personally with the game having been made too easy overall. (except the harder modes in raids and some FPs). However, I have to admit that it seems to be liked by more people and that people like myself are the minority. So I accept that it's the way things are. And well as to why... it's mostly the casual players that stay for longer playing space barbie (and I don't mean that in a negative way, I do it myself) and that's what the game runs on.

So I hate to break it to you but you either accept these changes or you have to step away from it. I learned to accept it and that's why I'm still here.

Most RP guilds have strongholds, and flagships, and don't have to go to fleet, or planets. But they still do. It depends on the time you log in, etc. There are plenty of RP guilds out there, you just need to open your eyes. Content was made easier to appeal to more people, but if it's too hard, there are many things you can do to increase it, not to mention most content now has harder modes.

Haven't missed a sub since i started in 2012, and although there has been times I've thought of walking away, it wasn't because of frivolous reasons

I am quite happy even while i have things to complain. The stories are great as i mentioned and being part of SW having some choices gow my story unveils is great and i generally feel happy when playing <3

Its just that i miss those litle things that gave me more choices like the talent system or stayin on base class or small things that make the ganme feel more "Real" like ability to take cover, no matter how trivial or wrong it is in gameplay sense. I would rather take cover as a soldier and stay away from enemy line of fire but take longer on the particular fight than stand tall in front of blazing cannons as if i was a superman or something impervious to bullets or blaster bolts.. Just a litle things that weree great in this game. Just like why i rather play ESO because stealth is available to everyone rather than some class.. Because everyone being able to sneak makes more sense than just someone being able to sneak. Just like everyone having some common sense and take cover from fire rather than everyone just standing in line of fire apparently impervious to damage that should kill them... Even in movies, Lando would die when someone shot him, so its better to stay behind cover and shoot when opportunity arises.. Common sense thing that has no sense in game mechanics but has all the meaning when you are playing as a character not wanting to take that hit on your chest.

Of Roleplaying... I have never been a fan of roleplaying happening in guilds and private dwellings as it is often nowadays... Id rather have unplanned occasional encounters all over the world or just stumble upon some people doing the game RP way... This is rare these days, i know it. Mostly it is because game developers dont understand the roleplay aspects that well and because normal casual players cant just minfd their own business and let other play like they want. Too many just want to grief and not having an RP specific server seems small thing, but when you have been away for the chgange period, the change is sudden and you can see more clearly what has happened betwen now and then. RP and Normal servers should always be separate.

In any case, it is nice to be part of SW again and in toip of that, it is new year and new hope far all. Have a happy and healthy new years from now on everyone <3

How would somebody else know if a player is solo RPing? Unless the RPing player says something to somebody else?

Star Forge is apparently more RP friendly.

Starforge is the best for RP (USA wise) it brought over a healthy community from ebon hawk. Admittedly, it's not as active as it was. We had some really cool guilds back in the day. But it's still there.

I've often gone to cantina, and RP'd while waiting for people, just did some normal stuff, drank, danced, chatted to npc's as if they were chars, etc. while waiting for people to finish class stuff, etc, so we can run to the next stuff.
