I think all the agenda based hate aside most rational people realize that TOR is the next big thing. To put it simply, TOR consists of a lot of great things from WoW and MMOs in general along with things it does great on its own (story, crafting, companions, space combat minigame, etc). It may not be the perfect game, but it definitely is a fun and well made game overall, albeit with bugs.
Jett-Rinn
Care to explain to those of us that don't follow Penny Arcade? Wow..someone who plays games doesn't follow PA? Okay...the last game those guys praised like this was WoW and interestingly enough Die hard EQ fans were basically acting the same way some of the haters are acting on this forum....I just see history repeating itself is all. cdstephen
Care to explain to those of us that don't follow Penny Arcade? Penny Arcade has numerous strips dedicated to WoW. On a side note, the comic series also does some stuff on Star Wars. Also, they predicted TOR a while back. http://www.penny-arcade.com/comic/2006/03/29 These guys more or less have a great taste in games. One of the most recent games they praised for example was League of Legends, which became a huge hit. DigitalShield
I agree with him 100% I do as well try to create my character personality before I start choosing options. This really increases the enjoyment factor for me any way. Since I'm playing a really lightside Jedi, my character should spare everybody. For a while I would do this but there are times when I can't bring my self to spare everybody. For example in Nar Shadda there is this Imperial officer who is essentially orchestrating an alien holocaust. Once I defeated him he pleaded for his life, begging me to let him live he says will give me Imperial codes, bass locations, secret agent names. However I could not, let this man live, as I hovered over the two options Kill or Spare I kept thinking "this man who has slaughtered millions all because of some sick ideology how can I let him live, I know what the Jedi Code says but would my character really let him live? Would I let him live?"My answer became clear and I struck him down in one swoop of my lightsaber.. This is why SWTOR is awesome and this is why I love this game and all of Biowares other games. When I commit my self to a path either dark or light there are always situations that make me think, would this be a good idea? and as gabe said, to put this in an MMO space is *********** brilliant. Agree 100% I love the part in that op ed where Gabe says: "While playing last night with Scott he explained that his bounty hunter was all about completing her contracts and getting credits. She didn’t let her feelings get in the way of the job. He was thinking about this before his character was even level 10. I’d be very surprised if he had any idea what sort of “person” his Troll Shaman was in WOW". That's what the hardcores and dyed in the wool progression raiders can't wrap their brain around the ability to share this deep CRPG experience with your friends is what is going to propel this game to the top. Daniel Erickson said it best: "it's like sitting around with four of your buddies playing the old school Pen and Paper games." I know that is the experience I have been wanting since I first logged into the UO beta all those years ago; if Bioware can keep producing this quality of content they are going to expand the market and bring in a brand new type of MMO player and that is excting. The main issue is that Bioware has to keep pumping out quality story content to please the consumers, which can be very expensive. If Bioware maintains a solid subscriber count within these first few months then they'll be fine I think. Although Bioware's other RPG games are better in the story department (KOTOR being a prime example, and OE's KOTOR 2), Bioware does manage to bring top notch video game storytelling to the MMO format. Hopefully Bioware can continue to develop as a story-based developer so that they can transcend the pulp fiction type of content that they make (which ultimately superior to the crappy/nonexistent story in most video games.) ShadowMasterRP
I was pleasantly surprised when I saw the lore description tabs for classes at character creation. The Sith Warrior description fit my own personal ideals and principles nicely, so I was able to choose the kind of character I'd enjoy playing most and identify with most. So that is a good point. I still play WoW, but WoW hasn't been an RPG in a long time. It's an MMO, a graphical social network now.

How awesome would it be to have a Diablo or StarCraft MMO that had the VO and Quest system of TOR?

Yep I pretty much said the same thing in this Blog post I think that Bioware knew they had to do that going in; that they couldn't halfass it. I have a friend who works for an agency in L.A. and she told be that Bioware has 3/4 of Hollywood's voice talent under contract until 2018....that means they are serious about pumping out content and after reading Revan I know the writing is going to be top shelf. How awesome would it be to have a Diablo or StarCraft MMO that had the VO and Quest system of TOR? They appeal to different markets. WoW is played majorly by impatient, hyperactive 12-year-olds who don't read a single letter of quest text or flavor text throughout their ENTIRE gaming experience from their first level 1 character to their 10th max level raiding character. They follow arrows, shout "GOGOGOGO!!!" in chat and so forth. The amount of players that play WoW and enjoy the lore and creative content and whatnot is abysmally low. If they were to introduce voiced conversations and quests, they'd lose a huge number of players, and with the money they'd spend on it, they'd also go bankrupt. ukikithemonkey
You know sadly you are right which is a damn shame because Blizzard can (or could) write a decent story. I am leaning towards could. After watching the end of cata cinematic, and seeing them adding pandas as a serious race, I have come to the conclusion that they are not even trying to write a decent story anymore. And can you really blame them, the average WoW player doesn't have the attention span for a detailed story anyways.
