Jittery Choppy Gameplay

I do experience some really horrible gameplay for about a week now. I would describe the problem as jittery and choppy user interface, graphics effects and sound. Everything feels so laggy. It feels similar to the gameplay that you get on the imperial fleet or in warzones. But now its everywhere in every instance. Even in flashpoint instances that ran just fine before. Fps drop to 20 fps sometimes during fights but no lower.

I checked my Ping. It's fine and constant. Then I did some hardware health checks on CPU, GPU, Motherboard, RAM with no negative results. Also I did not notice any patch lately that could have introduced this issue.

Has anybody else experienced such problems the past few days? I really wonder if it happens to other people as well. Because then it might be a problem with the game or the servers. If I'm the only one having this it might just be somehing broken in my PC that the tests could not find. Any opinion or help is appreciated. I already opened a ticket on this matter. This is just me asking the community for help as well.

Welcome to my world along with 70-80 fps in regular zones and single digit fps in WZ's. Until Tuesday when I build my new rig. Of course I would recieve every item needed for the build except the motherboard which arrives 5 days later. Thanks Obama

I hate to be the one to give you bad news, but it wont make much of a difference lol. I have a high end pc and this game still chuggs at times.

Check to make sure your CPU is running at the proper frequency. Easiest thing to do is to reset/clear the CMOS or enter the BIOS/UEFI and "Load Defaults". Check the manual for details.

(Btw, sometimes CMOS values can be changed by spikes on the powerlines, depending upon the quality of the various spike/noise suppression components in the power supply, etc. I've "repaired" many "broken" computers by simply resetting the CMOS.)

Also, make sure the CPU isn't overheating, which can happen if there's too much dust in the cooler, or the fan's not working.

Thanks for the tips.

I did the reset to default setting in the BIOS. Unfortunately that did not help.

The CPU runs with frequency of 2.7 to 3.0 GHz. Base frequency in the specs is 2.3 GHz. I also measured the temperatures during a flashpoint run. Up to 70C. That seems ok to me, always has been around that temp. Except the game never lagged and glitched like this before.

I did also some troubleshooting actions the customer support told me, no luck there either.

I read in another thread that people have horrible lag on Illum where the Gree event is at. Maybe it is related somehow.

That CPU frequency is a bit low for SWTOR, so I'm not surprised that you'd get low fps at times. Particularly in PvP and OPs.

Yes, 70C is fine. No worries there.

But, if you are playing on Ilum during the Gree event, that could cause low fps for you because of the number of people there, and your low CPU speed means it has trouble keeping up.

Is you fps OK in other areas? What sort of fps do you normally get? (Hit ctrl-shift-F for an fps display in the lower left of your screen.)

I mainly do flashpoints and 8 man ops these days. And I never had fps issues in these areas with my CPU. But for a few days now I have issues in exactly those instances. I'm not wandering around on Illum or doing Warzones. I would totally expect low fps there.

I know it's not such a good CPU for SWOR. Building a better PC soon, so I guess I just have to deal with this for now. It's just weird that I did'nt have any issues before.

Well, they do seem to have done something since Onslaught that makes the game very laggy in places. Maybe they got more new players than they anticipated, and they "over-merged" the servers to where they can't handle things lately.

I would guess that, maybe whatever happened sort of works your CPU harder now, and those systems that were marginal before have become choppier now. My i5-6600 works fine in most areas, except those couple of spots in Onderon and OPs. PvP and OPs have always been choppy for me, but I did turn on the fps display in an 8-man OP recently and noted that my fps varied from about 35 to 55, which wasn't too bad (playable). (I could only get a rough feeling for the fps because of rotations and gameplay in progress. 🙂 )
