Screaming_Ziva
I've now finished 6 FPs on PTS. Every single piece of personal loot I have gotten is green. I am seeing people pull 3 -5 gold pieces of personal loot from each boss. One player I was with walked out of Hammer Station at least 9 pieces of gold loot and I received a total of 9 green pieces. What gives? Edited October 5, 2019 by Screaming_Ziva

MarkkuJ
If your item level is low you will get greens, they turn blue and gold when you level up your item level. At least that is what I've seen, the random loot from mobs has been green for me all the time, items from bosses depend on my own item level. What gives? May be they hired some fired Blizzard devs, because this persoanl loot System is similar to the WoW Loot System for world bosses and emissary chests. Its a frustrating system of uninspired devs thinking to bring players to pay there subscription for no content.
TrigPt
The colour of the gear is based on its item rating. The item rating of the gear that drops is based on the item rating you're wearing at the time. Gold gear is item rating 300+. You're only getting greens because your item rating is less than 274. The other guy was probably 306 and so getting almost only golds

What gives? YOu need to raise your gear score to get the better loot you are going to get green gear until you are gear level 274 then you will start to get all blue gear dropping. People need to get past the idea that they will not wear green gear, unless you are going to craft your gear you will need to wear the green gear. I started at 270 within 5 flashpoints (4 hammer and 1 Cademimu) I was rank 278 and in all blue. To get from 270 to 278 I did not use the vendor I wanted to see what gearing was like without using the vendor, I thought my gearing was about right, and was very happy with how things were going. Screaming_Ziva
The item rating of the gear that drops is based on the item rating you're wearing at the time. Personally, this seems like an absolutely horrid way to gear. Does this work the same way with renowned crates? My renown rank is 315 and I'm pulling 270s and 272s from them. If so, what exactly is the point of leveling renowned?

There is no progression depending on your renown lvl, if you're wearing 270 gear at rank 300 and the same 270 gear at rank 500, you'll get the same gear out of a crate (i-lvl wise). I'm not entirely sure why they put an increasing lvl-count in there, they might as well drop the levels completly and just give you a crate whenever you reach a certain amount of renown points. As for the system "getting gear depending on your i-lvl": it has pros and cons imho. on your first character, you have no way to fast-track your way to max gear (as far as I'm aware of) and the system encourages you to equip whatever you get, wheter it's actually usefull or not, which is a bit nonsensical imho. On the other hand, since all gear is boL, every other char after your first one can skip right to max-lvl gear, which is nice.

On the other hand, since all gear is boL, every other char after your first one can skip right to max-lvl gear, which is nice. I agree. It is complete nonsense the first time through. Renown crates should not be opened except by characters at item level 304 or better yet, 306. This way, Renown crate drops will be at their maximum potential. Even with gear level at 306, they do drop gear below 306, particularly if the rewarded gear is a moddable shell, but the loose mods and static pieces should all be at or near 306. Unlike Takanna, some will even have best in slot stats. Because of the grind and the cost, initially players will not be able to gear the way they want. They'll have to gear with whatever RNG gives them. The devs managed to create a system that is main unfriendly and alt friendly at the same time. Single character players may be put off by this, and rightly so. The initial process is mostly unsatisfying and unrewarding -- RNG drops lots of junk gear and mods. The grind to overcome RNG is disgusting. At least there are now vendors, as expensive as they are, that can be used to purchase stubborn upgrades that otherwise refuse to drop. Like the Renown crates, I think the vendors should be avoided until the character's item level is at least 304. But, the tech fragment cap probably won't allow that, forcing tech fragments to be spent as the cap is reached. Once the main is at 304 and starts filling out their gear the way they want, the junk 304s can be handed to an alt. That alt only needs to go through the 304-306 grind. By the second alt, the player will probably have enough junk 306s laying around to start the third alt in half decent 306 gear. One thing that might improve the situation is if RNG would also jackpot. It is basically a slot machine, so why not give players a low chance of getting a piece of much better gear all the way up to 306 even if their item level is at 270? Those kinds of surprises encourage participation. The slow march from 268 to 306 does not.
