I got a 2 month sub almost a month ago (August 28th) and don't plan to subscribe after that period is over (or at least not for the near future). I realize that means I'll drop to preferred and was thinking of buying some unlocks so that I'll still have them when I'm no longer a subscriber. I saw that a bunch of things are on sale on the Cartel Market (and more to come in the next few weeks), so it seems like a good time to buy them.... However, since I still have my subscription, there are some that say I'm not eligible because I already have access, so the only thing I could do is get them as a gift... How do I buy them now at the discount so that I'll have them when I drop to preferred? Can I buy them as a gift but just give it to myself (I didn't go through the process so I wouldn't potentially waste cartel coins, so I'm not sure how that works)? Can I buy them for my own account even though I have them as a subscriber right now? I was considering getting the 3rd crew skill slot, maybe unify colors or titles/legacy name, probably one or two species, and maybe some inventory/cargo/storage. 2. Also, I've seen some sources say that Refer a Friend can be used as soon as you unsub and others say you have to wait 90 days...so which is it? When my sub first runs out, could I use a referral code and get the Preferred Friends Bundle (which means I don't have to buy as many unlocks now)? Or do I have to wait 90 days from the time my sub runs out? TIA!
ceryxp Posted September 27, 2019 Posted September 27, 2019 What it means when it says that you can buy it as a gift is that because you are currently subscribed you already have that unlocked your for account. You can still buy it and hold onto it until your sub runs out. I would definitely suggest using a referral link to get the Preferred Friends bundle, which includes: Unlock: Inventory ModuleUnlock: Crew Skill SlotCustomization Control: Display TitlesCustomization Control: Unify Colors; instead of buying these things. The Preferred Friends bundle is essentially an account wide unlock for each of those items because each current character, and each character that you make in the future, will be sent the bundle via in-game mail. Note that the Preferred Friends bundle does not include the display legacy name and titles unlock, which is a separate unlock from the display titles unlock (these are your character titles, Master for a Jedi, Captain for a Smuggler, etc), so if being able to display your legacy name, or legacy titles, is important to you then that's an unlock that you'll need to buy. It also doesn't include the hide head slot unlock, which is restricted for preferreds, so that's another thing you may want to buy. As to your question of whether you can use a referral link now, as soon as your sub ends, or if you have to wait 90-days... I'm not certain if you can use one now, but from what I've read once you have used one you are not be eligible to use one again until 90-days after your sub has expired. Storage is another thing you may wish to think about purchasing. Non-subs are limited in how many inventory modules, cargo bay tabs, and legacy storage tabs you can buy with credits. In some cases they'll say that only subs can purchase that expansion with credits, in others it will simply be too much as the cost will exceed your credit cap. But CM unlocks don't increase in cost for each unlock purchased. Some other unlocks you might find useful. If you're in a guild and want access to guild storage you'll need to purchase an unlock for that, but even with that you'll still be unable to access guild credits (either deposit or withdraw). A big item you may want is artifact equipment authorization (it's expensive), which allows you to wear gear of higher quality than blue. If you want access to HK-51 and Section X you'll need to purchase access as that is not retained after your sub runs out (you'll still have access to all other content you do now as a sub). If you like using companion customizations you'll need to purchase an unlock for that. If you have a customization equipped to your comp when your sub runs out it will say previously authorized by subscription (the same thing happens with artifact gear, too) and you'll still be able to use it, but you won't be able to use any others (with a few exceptions). One thing you can do is purchase the unlocks (make certain you are getting the account unlocks otherwise you'll only be unlocking that feature for the character on which you use the unlock) but don't claim them. They'll sit in your unclaimed items in the Cartel Market until such time as you claim them or return them for a full refund of their purchase price. Doing this you could, for example, purchase the unlocks for display titles, unify colours, crew slot, etc (the things you get with the Preferred Friends bundle), but don't claim them. Then when your sub ends you can try using a referral link (unless you get a more definitive answer on that subject). If it works and you get the PF bundle, then return those items for a refund. If you can't use a ref link, and don't want to wait the 90-days to see if there is a cooldown period, then you can claim and redeem them. Even if you do purchase them, it's still a good idea to use a ref link since that will get you a free inventory unlock. Hope that helps.
Derfburger Posted September 27, 2019 Posted September 27, 2019 One other thing I always like having when going preferred is the hide head slot. I know it's just cosmetic, but some of the head gear is just plain ugly. Depending on the class is can be really ugly!

My friend's sub runs out almost a week before mine (I'll have to double check the date), so I can try giving him my referral link then and I'll know if it works or not. For some reason I thought that it would, and so I wasn't going to bother with buying the items included in the Preferred Friends Bundle. I have bought 1 inventory upgrade (accountwide) thus far. I've never had a character at high level...my highest one right now is only level 36, so I've not seen any end game content, etc. I have heard of HK-51 and Section X, but don't know much about them. Before the sale ends I'll have just over 1500 CC. I'd like to get the Togruta...other than that, I'll see how far my CC get me. I know inventory/cargo/legacy storage are all good to have, though some other convenience/appearance things would be nice too. Even if the preferred bundle doesn't work right away, I could still get it after 3 months. I do have characters on 2 different servers, so I'm a tad torn on some of the legacy unlocks... I'm in the USA and made a character on one of the US servers (level 26), but my friend is in the UK, so I made a character on a European server (level 36 now) and made a guild there (not that we have much unlocked). My friend tends to flit from game to game, so I'm not sure how long he'll play and I'm debating if I should unlock legacy things for the UK character legacy or the US one. Anyway, again, I appreciate the explanations and recommendations. Maybe someone will have an answer about the referral link.

After paying the 600CC, you will be able to create Togruta characters on all servers (same with Cathar unlock). So you could create Togruta characters on the EU server and play with your friend there, and create Togruta characters on the US server(s) to play there if/when they quit. Also, even though it doesn't say it really clearly, unlocking extra tabs in your Legacy storage is an account unlock. So buying an extra Legacy storage tab on the US server would also give you an extra Legacy storage tab on the EU server.

Thanks so much for the clarification about the Legacy storage! I thought I'd have to buy it for each legacy. I'm guessing the individual legacy unlocks (such as speeder piloting, reduced quick travel time, rocket boost, etc) are actually per legacy though, so I'd have to buy them on each legacy I want them on. And I know some legacy unlocks are per character (such as the experience ones).

It would be counter-productive for them to have both a sale on Cartel items and the CC needed to buy them. Also, it would be unfair to subscribers to have their monthly CC grant's value undercut by a CC sale. I've never seen sub-time go on sale directly, but there are various bundles from places like Amazon, etc, that effectively give a discount on a sub. Also, if there was a 'sale' on sub-time, people could buy years of discount sub-time, effectively just lowering the overall price of a sub. In that case they might just as well lower the monthly fee.
