Seriously, this should be disabled by default for people doing fresh installs. This never seemed to work properly for me and it is more than a little irritating.

Unfortunately it doesn't seem they'll ever get rid of it, so our best hope is to warn new people about it so they can get the non-streaming client.

This thread would greatly benefit from some context. Otherwise, it's just a commiseration session for people who already know what you're talking about.

Due to their choice of using BitRaider, updates an downloads are painfully slow. So it is common knowledge to go into your .ini file and disable it. Do it at night, before going to bed, because you will have to redownload the entire game, but it is worth it.

Then when you get updates, they are downloaded like 10x the speed.

It is common knowledge among people who know.

Among new players, it isn't such common knowledge.

Alternately, you can have a SSD and a decent internet connection to make BitRaider work relatively well.... :rak_02:

Yeah, I can't say I ever really had an issue with it.

What ini file? It's taking my launcher 5-10 minutes to go from 0.1 to 02 and it's at 78.06% right now. Can someone please tell me what ini file I need to modify to remove this godforsaken service?

Yeah that is why I filled in the post besides the snippet you cherry picked.

Because the rest of the post is only useful for people who know. New players *don't* know, so advice (that they won't read because they don't know to look for it) on how to make the process work well isn't helpful.

OP has a solid point: given the difficulties that Bitraider causes, it should at least have a procedure inside the launcher to deactivate it, even if it's activated by default. That way, the advice for people plagued with "reorganising data" issues and similar is "open the launcher, go into *its* options, turn off this checkbox, click CONFIRM, and relaunch the launcher" instead of "find this INI file, hunt down this setting and change it like this, taking care not to mess up the format because despite being called an INI file, in internal structure it isn't actually in INI format, then do this thing and that thing and make sure to shut down the launcher before starting because..."

I would hope a person would be capable enough after reading my post to do a simple search on the forums, there are quite a few posts detailing how to do it. I try to give the benefit of the doubt about peoples intelligence. But as you so clearly insinuated in your snarky reply, no good deed go's unpunished. Not to mention all that focus to try and throw snark at me, where were you giving ANY detailed instruction at all on the first page/ Oh that's right, there is none. You would rather go on about a "What if, or they SHOULD" rather then outline the procedure that is the only one available at this time.

I am so glad I stumbled on this before my (re)install got very far. Weird buggy behavior plagued me for years on my last machine, never knew why. Cleaner installs/updates and the hope of fewer bugs makes me a happy player.

The title of the thread should already have told you that :p
