darthhavok Posted December 29, 2011 Share Posted December 29, 2011 (edited) What do you guys think of Xalek? He looks cool and I hate that we don't get him til near end of our storyline. I'm currently 45 and rushed to Voss to get him but I'm stuck on the very last boss (nightmare) of the class quests. He's 47 and constantly tries to heal so my interrupts are resisted a lot. So should I continue this path to get him early and enjoy him or is he not worth it and I should quest like normal? DoxaVi Posted December 29, 2011 Share Posted December 29, 2011 I had to comment that I did the exact same thing and rushed to the end of my class quests on Voss to try and get Xalek. Problem was I am level 43 and made it to the final nightmare boss and could only get him to about 50% health before biting it. Khem just couldn't stay out of the fire so to speak haha. But I am also curious what people think of Xalek. I want him mainly because I am a little tired of Khem after using him primarily for 30 some levels. Muskaan Posted December 29, 2011 Share Posted December 29, 2011 I use Xalek as a tank right now. Since I am a Synthweaver, Xalek is easier to gear than Khem. Xalek is pretty good. However, I didnt get him till I was ready for Corellia (close to 48). I used Khem for the Nightmare bosses. Otherwise I almost always use Ashara - faster questing. Aqualisk Posted December 30, 2011 Share Posted December 30, 2011 Well it would be nice if he had a personality. The guy has zero going on for him in terms of conversation. His affection conversations all go nowhere and reveal nothing. He could be totally mute and you'd hardly notice. Also he's mechanically the exact same as Khem Val, you know the dude you've had since level 9. Replace Lightning Punch for Lightning Strike and that's it. For a final companion he's extremely lack luster. The story doesn't do anything with him as your apprentice, he has no story, and he offers no new gameplay. Let down. I am now the proud master of Xalek and I personally find him much more enjoyable than Khem. The conversation (or lack thereof) is of no consequence as I believe Bioware has more planned for the "master/apprentice" dynamic down the road. I love the fact that Xalek has force charge, and let's be honest looks wise is a huge upgrade over the hulking monstrosity that is Khem (although I still like Khem quite a bit, just needed a change of pace). In essence I just enjoy cruising through quests with my very own apprentice by my side. Functionality wise he is almost identical to Khem, however the double bladed lightsaber and the fact that the gear you put on him actually shows up is a huge plus for me. The master/apprentice thing is just too cool. I don't play on a RP server but I still "get in" to my characters I play. Which is the reason I liked Khem so long. I really go into his story and wanted to see where it went and I'll still buy him gifts and try to finish his quests. I'm hoping that there will be a good bit of content for Xalek and that people just haven't had him long enough to unlock it all. It took me 40 something levels to get Khem to 7k. It took me 40 something levels to get Khem to 7k. There isn't much. My Xalek has been max affection for a long time. You don't even get a conversation for reaching max. Zidaen Posted December 30, 2011 Share Posted December 30, 2011 corruption sorc lvl 43 when I did it.... Khem was not enough dps to kill the guy even with my interrupting every cooldown I had. His most damaging attack is force storm. Using andronikos was easier, pacify him for storm so he moves out of aoe then re-engage. His dps was enough as well. If you dont have gear for him don't bother trying. Ashara worked for me as well (bugged so i did it 3 time and hate life). She did more damage and took less aside from force storm, pacify didnt work because of lost dps time vs force efficiency... eventually i would run out of force. She died at the end as I got more aggressive but luckily CC just became available again and he only had 2k left. As for Xalek, he is a fantastic mix of khem and ashara. His damage is great, aoe threat is great and his tank stance makes him very tough. He replaced khem for me completely. Ashara still does more damage and Andronikos does more AOE damage. Since I am 31 corruption I usually stick to damage pets (Ashara) for strong+ mobs and aoe tanks for normals (tank+force storm is amazing) and Xalek > Khem. DoxaVi Posted December 30, 2011 Share Posted December 30, 2011 I agree that Khem Val is not the best choice for downing Horak Mul. I never tried using Ashara or Andronikos for that fight because they are honestly undergeared. I always chose the upgrades for Khem and wanted to wait till I was 50 before gearing out my DPS companions. I figured DPS was the main component to the fight and I needed to burn him down fast. It became obvious that me healing a tank the whole fight was counter-productive and if I wanted him to go down fast I needed to do it myself. I proceeded to grab Talos, put him in healing stance, and let lose with all my cooldowns. Went in 3 levels under Horak Mul and even surprised myself at how easily I beat him (although it was still dicey at times, but Talos came through with some clutch heals right after I shielded myself). Loved the fight, and I love those challenging 1 on 1 battles with elites. Xalek was worth it, and I don't mind that he is a mute. I am hopeful that in future content he will begin to open up more. Doomviper Posted January 2, 2012 Share Posted January 2, 2012 why cant we get any help with him? i find him impossible to beat as a darkness assassin.. talos can heal me no prob for other gold star, but this guy might as well be a world boss., my tanking spec is useless against him and i dont have enough interrupts or dps to prevent his dps, or kill him quick enough even with channel force... i dont want to be lvl 50 to get a companion thats only use is PVE, that is LAME. No point in rushing to get him, because if the content gets 2 or more levels above you, there is a steep increase in difficulty. I thought he was supposed to be ranged dps (sorcerer) not a tank. We already have a tank. I put him in pretty good gear, since I am synthweaving, but he would always die. He liked using force lightning, even though I had him in tanking stance. I only use Talos now. Ashara isn't bad for regular mobs, but since I have to use seethe everytime after a fight, a slightly longer fight with no down time works best for me. Ashara does decent dps, but can't hold aggro, so when it came to elites, I would die, and my companion would have full health. Or if I held back, they would just die too fast, without doing much damage. I finished act 3 at lvl 50, used Talos, and wasn't even damaged by the time the fight was over. I'm madness spec. I used my pvp comedations to gear him to the teeth in pvp gear made everything so easy. It is worth going through the nightmare trials early. He is absolute murderer. The only mechanical difference is that Xalek's lightning strike has a slight damage increase because it has a 1.5 cast time while Khem's lightning punch is instant. The characters are the same. There is no difference to them mechanically. Same abilities just different name. Same ratios et all. I will submit that Xalek does have an unlisted ranged/channeled force lightning ability, but it does less damage than his auto attack and is a net damage decrease when he uses it. Used Ashara for everything but the final boss- she was simply too hard to keep alive despite being fully geared in lvl 40 PvP armour and commendation sabers. I tried Talos after the 5th wipe and DESTROYED the boss easily. Anyone trying to do it at lvl 44 like i was- Talos is the way forward! If you choose to use him as a DPS companion, he is a perfectly viable option, however, he is still no better as a melee DPS than Ashara, therefor he is redundant. If you choose to use Xalek as a defensive stance companion, then he is clearly inferior to KV...and that's not my subjective opinion, rather that is statistical fact. Xalek is bugged, and as a consequence, he does not recieve any gain in either his shield stat, nor his absorption stat from the gear you equip on him, which effectively renders him unable to compete with KV as a tank. Just one of many things that annoy me in this game. Id be happy to take almost any other companion in place of Xalek. Xalek is bugged, and as a consequence, he does not recieve any gain in either his shield stat, nor his absorption stat from the gear you equip on him, which effectively renders him unable to compete with KV as a tank.
