PVE Swoop racing for 6.0 please

I'd like to see something like that GSI daily on Ziost to the tune of Eternal Championship. Or it could span multiple planets like the gsi seeker missions from a terminal. I think that would be hot.

Mechanics to implement might include temp mods and speed boosts or allow us to buy and upgrade speeders like gsf, making them only available for the races. Also some ambushes by creatures or raiders along the route could knock you off the bike, having to either affect repairs or fight.

Rewards could include new titles, exotic crafting mats, and reputation for use at a swoop race vendor.

Or...you could make this an event added to the monthly rotation. I'd really prefer you didn't because I like regular variety.

If they did this right, a lot of people would log in just to race, I'd bet.

This is why I think minigames would be so great for SWTOR. Sometimes I want to login, but don't feel like thinking hard at anything. Minigames like pazaak and swoop racing would be a nice change of pace for when you want to take a break from doing flashpoints, warzones, or leveling. They're simple, yet complex enough to still be entertaining.

You are absolutely right! If they made them robust or various enough swtor could become what it was intended to be...the WoW killer. But not just WoW, a lot of mmos would no longer be able to compete.

I'm not convinced by PvE racing(1) as an idea, but just-for-fun PvP racing could be interesting.

I don't mean "with weapons", of course, just the idea of the race being a *race*, not a time trial.

But regardless of the format, the speeders used could not be "standard" SWTOR speeders because piloting them takes no skill to speak of. Compare: GW2 mount races. GW2 mounts are pretty unique among MMORPG mounts, and one specific property stands out above all: they have inertia in a straight line and in a curve, and as a result they have minimum turning circles and other madness (jumping and other special abilities, etc.) Guiding the Raptor or the Skimmer, or above all the Roller Beetle(3) to victory takes skill.

(1) If there's only one participant, is it even a race?(2)

(2) It might be, I guess, if the other participants are NPCs.

(3) The Roller Beetle is the fastest MMORPG mount I know of. The various cars in ArcheAge are fast compared to SWTOR mounts (north of 65mph rather than south of 40mph), but the beetle is faster still (north of 130mph), and highly resistant to "ordinary" turns at speed. Fortunately, it can be persuaded to "drift", but getting the drifting to reliably send you the way you want to go is a challenge.

My Idea for a "Swoop Race"

All of this is just *Fantasy but I was thinking.

1-Just going around a circuit/track as the speeders are wouldn't be near enough for anybody. One, the speeders should go Much faster, as fast as the Hero Engine will *Reliably* allow. (This is a recurring forum topic and I Believe the engine was the reason stated it didn't happen)

2-As stated before Just driving isn't fun or indicative of "Speed"; drifting, wagging around corners and managing power vs curve would start adding Skill to simply get around the course.

3-In TPM there were far more dangers then racing, the course itself has dangers as Obstacles to be avoided, Tuskans or others waiting with highly accurate slug throwers, one good shot will end that racers day, some turns can be incredibly tight requiring more drastic power/curve mgmt, simply achieving best possible speed may require consistent attention in the straight-a-ways. Possibly Bantha's and or Dewbacks sometimes wander onto the track.

4-4 or 5 Players racing together is a challenge each going for speed, best in the turns, maybe unofficial teams, get rid of the other racers etc what about also 4 or 5 NPC racers *With* the players (now 8-10 racers) NPCs are just as fast they also intend to nudge other racers off of the track (usually into a wall somewhere,"Rubbing is Racing") sometimes and win overall. Players can also attempt to Nudge each other (and NPCs) into an obstacle, over the edge or into a wall.

5-This being what it is you need to have the Hutts (atleast one, maybe two) There is a Registration fee. If you bet on yourself or another and "That Racer" wins you get...Something Great and a Free next Race...., if you lose you neither get nor lose anything (its just a game and following "Cantina Event theme") so you lose nothing but also your chance to win isn't very high either.

6-The Swoops themselves would "Have to Be" separate entities like the GSF ships. Swoops to be upgraded, maintained possibly differing, interchangeable configurations of engines, controls, body, power mgmt systems, air vanes and maintenance tools (Nudging, over revving, scrapes, occasional dropped spanners all can cause damage *During the race).

All that could work.

I was thinking some interesting routes would be cool too. Like racing through rakghoul tunnels, a tusken raider canyon, or even that purple Umbaran dreamscape.

Kinda hard to believe they aren't taking full advantage of all the amazing content in the star wars ip/franchise that they can.
