Rolodome
Someone mentioned in the thread about F2P changes, how there are things that vets do to handle certain things (bugs, jankiness, etc.) that they do reflexively at this point and new players will likely get derailed by them and not know what to do. So I thought it would be helpful to make a thread for those of us who are more familiar with the game to think about it a bit and list things we deal with reflexively at this point that a new player may get very confused and annoyed by. Then maybe in another 8 years Bioware can try to fix some of them to attract new players to the one remaining server at that point in the game's life. Here are some examples I can think of to start it off: - Window placement: I've gotten in the habit of moving over the cargo hold or legacy cargo hold to the middle of the screen temporarily (even though I don't like it being there) if previewing things from it because the preview window defaults to the left-hand-side of the screen, which I'm used to, but if I preview something in a window under where the preview window pops up, when the preview window pops up, the item is picked up and I now have to do something with it. - Sometimes an animation has to finish before taking an action like looting. I just sort of wait for it to finish and then move on. - Taking too long on the character creation screen may drop it entirely and you have to start over, so I usually take a screenshot of a look if I'm spending a lot of time on it and don't want to lose it. - Many outfit parts clip when mixed together, so I try to play the different animations in the improved preview window, moving without weapon and with to check for clipping before settling on an outfit (I only wish it could also have the option to play at Sprint speed, since there's no reason not to have Sprint toggled on and that can reveal clipping too) - Sometimes I rubberband when trying to move after being dragged by an NPC. I try to wait a second or two before moving to avoid this. - I try to make sure I'm dismounted before starting a cutscene. I'm not sure if this is still an issue now because I avoid it so cleanly most of the time, but I know there at least had been an issue sometimes where if mounted when starting a cutscene, your companion wouldn't be included in it. - I send my companion in first on known mobs for some heroics so they'll take the CC and I won't have to deal with it. - Sometimes I dismiss and resummon my companion when going up complex terrain indoors, like that ramp in the impside tat heroic with keargan freem or whatever his name is, so I don't have to sit around waiting for them to figure out how ramps work. Hoping this and the ranged issue will get fixed with 6.0 as has been talked about. - If I was in a stronghold when I entered a flashpoint, I'll usually choose Exit Location when leaving, rather than Previous Location, as the latter may put me in the spaceport where you can't quick travel or enter a stronghold and now I have to go all the way out to get back to where I was.
