Hello , I have been around since beta but since then took a few years off.The game seems so different, but in a good way. I want to jump back in but was wondering if i should re-level and new character or use my existing characters to jump right back in. I am subbed so does that mean i will get an XP boost ? Is there any perks to re-leveling currently? Does it take long to reach max level ? Would re-leveling help in adjusting to class changes or do they mostly play the same ? Thanks for your input.

I am looking at either playing or leveling a dps class juggy or bounty hunter . Would i have issues getting into raids or pvp groups with either of these classes ?

I can (obviously) only speak to my experience. I was one of the original subscribers but left after Ilum was released (at the time I was mostly interested in PvP).

In 2016, on a whim, I came back to the game but couldn't find my old account. My server, Jung Ma, no longer existed, customer support was clueless, etc.

Given how much the game has changed, and how fast-paced leveling is now, and well it's been a couple years and your memories of the quests have likely faded...

I would start brand new.

Regardless of your decision -- welcome back!

Thanks for your reply, In regards to my question about my class choice. Would either of those classes limit my ability to get into groups?

It's going to depend on the queues, but DPS have always had long waits. It's more of a "there are 9000 dps in the queue and 12 tanks and healers" than anything else. I remember sitting in the queue with my guild leader one night for about 45 minutes, both of us on DPS toons, so I swapped to one of my tanks, and he to a healer and we almost didn't have time to finish queueing up when it popped. The Jugg tank is really fun to play, though, if that helps.

Concur in full. And I know it's not an original response but...

I have been playing MMORPGs since 2004. I have yet to find one where the following didn't hold true with respect to queue times and experience...

1) Tanks have fastest queues.

2) Healers not far behind.

3) DPS distant third.

Also, if you tank, the DPS will expect you to know the dungeon / flashpoint. If you make the slightest mistake they will scream at you. If you are the healer, despite the fact they are standing right next to a pulsating plasma grenade, they will scream at you.

Maybe I'm projecting my bias here -- but if you want to tank or heal -- have at it-- but plan to find a guild. It will be good for your sanity. :rak_03:

I will echo the others about leveling is super fast. I used to level via only PvP, but that's a lot harder to do now, because lowbie and midbie PvP doesn't pop as often, and due to they way they changed picking maps, almost all lowbie and midbie PvP matches are arena, so you get less XP anyway. But in the flip side, you can level 1-50 almost on your class story alone. Then to finish up to 70 you can run a few of the daily areas, black hole, CZ-198 and ... uhm... Yavin 4 I think is the other one I've used... come to mind as being pretty fast to blaze through, or some of the 2 person heroics are really fast, however much PvE you can stomach if you don't like PvE (my own projection there :D ).

One thing to note, I haven't tried this, but I've read that a lot of the side quests that used to exist and now seemingly don't show up on your map with the little triangle... I guess they are still there, but you have to find the spot in your user preferences to enable them. I guess no one wanted them cluttering up their UI anymore, or something, so bioware turned them off? Or maybe that's just hearsay and they are actually gone. Not sure. But just something to keep in mind.

I can't speak much to PvE groups, but for PvP...

In PvP right now, DPS mercs are a top tier class, so you'd have no problems getting a PvP group at least. And a merc healer, well, I don't think anyone begrudges getting any healer. :p DPS juggers are great for reg PvP. If you go ranked though (solo at least) they get targeted first, because they don't have top-tier defensives & escapes anymore, but they still do good damage.

And generally speaking, in my opinion leveling from scratch would be worth it. It happens VERY fast, and that way you can get used to the changes a little at a time.

Yep, and I'm laughing because it's trueeeee. I was an Op tank, and an Op healer in my guild, outside of that, I didn't much bother, if I could get away from it. I loved tanking for the guild, it was a blast, I even managed, early on, to get in a few decent pugs with people that knew the bosses and gave me tank pointers when I was just starting out here. But I think my favorite thing was the boss fight in False Emperor. It's a guild run, and we get all the way to the end, no problem. Then when Malgus gets to about 75%, he one shotted everyone but me. I'm tanking away, chipping away at him, and they're figuring "he's gonna die any minute now, so we'll just wait to respawn". I got him, solo from 75%. When I got him to about 30%ish, they were cheerleading in VC. That would have been a disaster in a pug, but it was hilarious in guild. Whole guild took me serious as a tank after that though.

Nice. I did some PvE tanking in another-shall-not-be-mentioned-but-rhymes-with-bow-game :), and it was the same there. I mostly only did it with RL friends. We had a guy that loved to just run and pull as many mobs as he could and then we'd see if we could survive it. Was fun for us. I doubt a pug would have appreciated it so much. :D

Then I get into a pug group, and I guess I pulled the boss too early or something, I dunno - I wasn't much used to how people expected things to go... one guy just WENT OFF on me. How I was trying to kill the group on purpose, and blah blah, and then s/he quit. Meanwhile I'm busy tanking away. The one guy I knew in the group was the healer, so he was kind of expecting me to not do things 100% 'prefect' and just kept going when he saw me do the pull. The group finished off the boss no problem.

I never blame tank or healer. Especially tank. It's a thankless job most of the time.
