Finally beginning to acquire 248's on my Guardian Tank, Lethal mods for sure?

Before I start ripping the Warding mods out of my 248 armor pieces, I need to know for sure. As a PvE/PvP Tank, do I really want to rip out the Warding mods and replace them with Lethal 248's, or should I just keep the Wardings and use the armor as is? Keep in mind I intend to tank Master FP's and Veteran (possibly Nightmare) 8-mans. So if I'm better served keeping the high Defense over going for Power/Crit, I need to know.

I'm augmenting with 228 Shield/Absorbs.

Personally, I’d leave the 248s alone... 252s upgraded to 258s are the current best in slot.. welcome to Ossus.

There's no guarantee that I'll eventually get 252's. I'm very slowly working through the story on this character, and even if I do eventually get to 252's, I want to assemble a set of 248's while I work my way there, so I can still pull my weight in Warzones and run FP's and Ops if I so choose.

That said, I am more inclined to leave the Warding mods alone simply because I want to be as tanky as possible, and even if the Defense is excessive, it still serves to make me harder to kill, even if I hit like a wet noodle.

For pvp you for sure want power/crit/alacrity (dps mods) and for pve you generally want tank stats. For flashpoints you can get away with dps mods, but anything over sm ops you probably want tank mods.

Also, spending unassembled components on outdated 248 gear is a bit of a waste when you can trade them for MDCs on ossus.

I'm not spending them on 248's, I'm acquiring the 248's from Tier 4 Crates alone. I have 4,000 UC's banked so far.

At the very least i recommend finding a crafter to make the warding b mods. The extra endurance is more tanky than the extra (largely useless) def rating.

I'm not going for the 252/8 gear either out of principle

Once I've assembled the 248 Tank set I'm going to swap to DPS spec so I start getting DPS gear from the crates instead, and transfer the mods.

That was the plan anyway.

Also, if Lethal B mods were modestly priced like Mk-10 kits and 228 Augments, fine, I'd be happy to just buy those and use them. But 4mil for each mod? Compared to 100k for a kit and 100k for an augment? No thanks.

You know that the current bolster level in Warzones is 252, right?

And gear below 252 makes no difference...at all?

If that's the case, what's the point of gearing via TIer 4 Command Crates/UC's once you can start getting 252's from Ossus?

Well for tank, gear matters for pvp because you want dps stats, but bolster will give you tank stats since you are specced tank.

See soo-low's comment(1) - although what he says is true, it's also the source of somewhat acrimonious debate about "skank tanks" - but note also that you should not (now) use UCs to gear to anything below 252 - it's mostly more effective to buy MDCs from the UC=>MDC vendor on Ossus than it is to spend UCs on 248s.

(1) That is, you should, for PvP, gear in *DPS* mods, and you should do it to 252+ to deactivate bolster because bolster will give a tank *tank* stats.

So there's no point in changing the mods in my 248 gear for PvP because Bolster will basically negate them?

yeah basically :(

Welcome to 5.10. The 252 & 258's are just supposed to keep us busy before 6.0 drops. It was fun at first, but got stale fast.

I for one found it no fun and stupid from before it launched.

So if i am reading this correctly, i should be using my UC to buy MDCs and just deal with what i get from crates when it comes to 248 and use the MDCs to buy 252s and 258s?

i dont PvP much anymore, but i see that the bolster is a bit higher so it may be something that I might attempt again. I reek at PvP, now.

If you want to get the most value out of them, yes.

I for one am too stubborn. As stated too many times to count I find practically everything about the new gear stupid - its existence, method of obtaining, locking behind Ossus, I could go on practically all day.

But yes, Musco has said UC will be useless in 6.0 and that the conversion rate will be underwhelming, and with bolster everywhere, your UC are better spent on MDC.

But I will not be participating because I was pushed one step too far. Musco, you can take your gear and put it wherever you put the lightsaber I should have received.

i cant say i disagree with you about the new gear...it is one of the reasons i stopped playing in December. it started when i accidentally picked the offhand saber instead of my main. i figured i could just take the pieces out of the shell and put it in my current saber....nope.

Okay Kendra, I've finally gotten a full set of 248's, all augmented with 228 Shield/Absorb Augments, 10 for Shield and 4 for Absorb. I'm not using Tank relics though, I'm using DPS Relics, Focused Retribution and Serendipitous Assault.

These are my current stats as they show on my ship:

Mastery: 6596

Endurance: 8319

Power: 1130

Crit: 132

Defense: 3843

Absorb: 1770

Shield: 1884

Health: 124816

Armor: 14583

And that's with a reusable Fortitude Stim and class buffs.

Are these stats good as is, or do I still need to drop a couple of Absorb augments for Shield augments?

I'm still contemplating going for Lethal Mods of course, but it would take a while to get enough of them from Tier 4 crates. At least duplicate equipment wouldn't be wasted.

using the gear straight from the crates, yeah, i'd say you're good. i like keeping shield and absorb close, favoring shield, as you have. As mentioned earlier, the new 4k def rating is absolute overkill, and i prefer more health, but there's not much you can do about those with straight from the yellow gear.
