Since it seems the team is open to stripping things down and rebuilding them to fit current needs, I would ask that the stronghold hook system be put on the to do list, if it's not already there.

Stronghold are great, but I always got the feeling that they were never expected to become as popular as they have become. Thus the mechanics implemented with them weren't able to handle all of the things that players wanted. I felt like the dev team never really expected to revisit the stronghold idea after the initial release.

Since diving through my old request threads, I've noticed that the current dev team has been implementing a lot of old requests, thanks. :) Could we put this one in the pipeline as well?

Sure, but overhaul it *how*? What do you think they should change it *to*.

And to avoid accusations... my own view is that they should replace hooks by free-placement zones. Wall zones for wall decos, floor zones for floor decos, and ceiling zones for hanging decos, naturally, to avoid the oddities of Runes of Magic, where you could put any decoration anywhere, even chairs and tables on the ceiling. There would be no restrictions on what and where you could place on those zones, subject to a question of whether there's even room (e.g. current Starship hook decos on the platform on Coru/DK).

Specific ideas, you say? Yes!

No Hooks

The best scenario would be a free placement system, where we can put decorations anywhere we want, as long as a solid object doesn't collide with the spawn point. This system would include X, Y, and Z axis as well as a Scale property to size items.

Although a way to tilt decorations would be interesting, I really don't want it, because the MMOs I've played with this feature are very tedious when it comes to placing items. It already takes a lot of time to build out a stronghold.

With Hooks

Assuming that's not feasible, I would like to see the X/Y movement increased to +/- 40. As before, a Z-axis slider and a Scale slider would be amazing.

Perhaps all the hooks could become one universal hook, in which any decoration could be placed.

If that's not possible:

* Upgrade the alternate layout of hooks so that all Large floor hooks contain a grid of Small hooks.

* Add a couple of new potential layouts for Centerpiece and Starship hooks, especially one that has a lot of Medium / Medium Narrow / Small hook combinations.

* Upgrade existing strongholds (such as Tatooine) so that all Starship hooks have alternate layout options.

Fix the broken hooks, such as the numerous hooks in the Nar Shaddaa stronghold where you can't use jukeboxes because the volume cycles up and down every 3 seconds.

And finally, add more hook options to existing decorations. Not only are the current options limiting, they're not consistent. Here's a list of suggestions (scroll down a bit) -- http://www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?p=9301391#post9301391

This. i enjoyed this in SWG. We still had limits on how much we could place in a house but this gave us more freedom. I can even recall turning a fountain over and making a shower.

A small change that would have a lot of impact would be geting rid of hook type restrictions. Allow us to place any decoration on any hook. Leave the old hooks in place but remove the restricton on which decorations can be placed. Future stongholds could then simply be covered in small hooks.

Just imagine: shelves standing at the wall, centerpieces being surrounded by other decorations. No more hassle to put personell and furniture arrangements together, there are so many decorations that simply make no sense for the hooks they're made for, because the people doing the hook-selection for the decorations seem to have no idea how the hooks are actually placed in the stronghold, and how limited our ability to move the decos is.

To pick up huge decorations covering the small hook they sit on, simply add a "hide decorations" button, so we can select the hook. The functionality to hide decorations already exists when you change hook types, so that shouldn't be that much work.

Ideally increase the X/Y values and also allow us to move on the Z axis. So much frustration about hovering decorations could be avoided by allowing us to move the decorations down to the floor when the hook is placed too high. There are also interesting applications for hiding parts of a decoration, so let us go crazy.
