New to MMOs and looking for people to play with

Okay, so I don't have any friends who are going to play TOR, and judging from my experience during beta testing, standing around and asking through the general chat is going to get me no where. So I'm asking for advice on how to find people to play, because I found a lot of situations in the game that were impossible to overcome without pairing up with other people. I would consider joining a guild but I'm not sure which one to choose since there are so many.

Classes I'm certain to play as include sith warrior, sith inquisitor (much later though), bounty hunter, jedi knight, and the trooper. For the most part I want to play light sided imperials, though I will do a few dark sided things on occasion.

I'm not sure about the other classes at this point but I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.

Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Best thing to do will be to join a guild , all the new to mmo players will probably join one , a lot of people like me will want to level alone and make use of companion , only grouping with others when its a must .

So , join a guild , make friends in the guild and find others to level your next character with .

But , level your first character as far as you can first before making another.

I'm in a similar position to you as an MMO newbie and I've joined a guild. In my view, the best way to find the right guild for you is to search for a guild using very strict criteria. You can specify what aspect of the game most interests you (e.g. role-playing), how much you intend to play (e.g. casual, less than 10 hours a week), and what time zone you want (e.g. PST). Lots of other criteria can be used. This way, you can narrow down the guild list. When you've limited it to a manageable group, take a quick look at the membership rosters for the guilds in question and see if there's much demand for the kind of character(s) you'd like to play. You might also check out the guilds' forums and see if the members are like-minded people.

Good luck! :)
