Enough, fix your %^#*ing sound

The OP is right. The lack of ambient and triggered music in a lot of areas is really noticeable to anyone who played SWG. That's one area SWG hit a home run on. Their atmospheric sound and music was off the charts, felt just like being in one of the movies.

I don't think this is a big problem though, just something that could use improvement in the future.

*facepalm*

That Galaxy exploded. It's no longer relavent. And BTW, you should have seen SWG at launch. I did, I beta tested for months that game and launched it. They did not hit a home run, ever.

I noticed this particularly the other day when doing space missions.

I like to spam blasters to hear the pewpew sounds and then on one of them, I barely got sound anymore. If I flew to specific part of the screen, I had no sound, then if I moved over a little, just out of the right speaker. I went to check make sure I didn't hit anything and then I got a loud shield warning from the left.

I would check my side, but don't see the need as I maintain my pc regularly.

Sound drivers always up to date, or rolled back due to issues. Wifes an audio fiends with music and notices when an update undoes the force stereo to all speakers, etc.

Just ordered a new usb headset so I'll be listening in more to these issues now.

I'm so sick of listening to combat in one side of my headset. I'm sick of sounds cutting in and out. I'm sick of no music ever playing. I'm sick of NO ambient noise on Ilum.

The sound quality changes on higher level planets and music stops playing altogether. So you level 17 that is about to post saying how much you live the music and it plays all the time, save it, I was on Hutta too and I know.

My computer is currently producing 5 straight hours of non-musical enjoyment to post to YouTube. The only way I can make any noise on Ilum is to run or fire a blaster.

SWToR should have included a subscription to Pandora.

this happens to me too.

Since the problem is located to just some people and not everyone it's pretty hard to locate/replicate the problem, if people in beta did what "free play" beta testers usually do, and just bug report "sound clipping, going quiet, fix it" without additional information about sound card/device, DXdiag file etc then it's nearly impossible to fix.

most people dont use dedicated sound cards.

realtek dominates the integrated sound card/codec market.

if this game cannot work with realtek cards, then these people (bioware) dont know what they are doing.

I was in a couple of beta tests and didn't have the problem. I played EGA and the first week with no problem. This week I've had the problem a couple of times. As for my sound card drivers, well Creative hasn't issued a new driver in over a year so they haven't changed and probably won't be.

BioWare made a change to companion sound volume in the last patch and I believe that had more consequences then they anticipated. Just my opinion though.

So, on that thought, does anyone that has experienced this issue recall having it before the last patch?

Yeah, sound is jacked up. I also get an issue where all of the sudden there will be a REALLY loud convo. I'm thinking "is someone talking to me?" Oh, it's just those two NPC's WAY the hell across the room? Oh and the convo follows me into my own NPC conversations regardless of how far I get away making me unable to hear the person ACTUALLY addressing me? Awesome.

Maybe it's just how old it is, or maybe I was just lucky, but I played WoW at release and don't remember getting half as many bugs as I'm getting in SWTOR. Que the "WoW had more bugs than an insect exibit!" and "WoW's servers are powered with the souls of babies!" nonsense.

Some sound glitches. But the only real annoying thing I have and reported in beta, is lack of ambient sound. For the work that went into voice acting, and that Lucas also has a sound company, that is surprising. No birds. Bugs. I go into a cantina and it's quiet (and why are they so big and empty?). I see people laugh. Arguing. Talking. But no background murmur. Space ports are quiet too. The Ugnaught rooms with heavy machines are quiet. It's just to quiet.

I've gotta agree with this. It's one of the games main flaws to me. They have this epic score that really is wonderful, but most of the time I don't get to hear it and the complete lack of ambient sound is really immersion-breaking.

I have a minor problem with voices, i have 3 companions atm,

corso riggs

c3p0 ripoff droid forgot his name

and Bowdarr

now when i press N to bring up the comapnions screen and i send off corso or c3p0 to do some scavanging corso sounds like a robot and c3p0 sounds very human, what basically is happening is the robot sound effect places on the voice of c3p0 to make him sound like a robot instead of just an actor has been somehow switched to corso riggs lol

its very amusing to hear my human friend speak like a robot and my robot like a very warm and caring human

i'd love to see if anyone else has this problem

Sound? Really sound? Out of all the things you can get upset about... You choose sound?

Trust me, the sound issue will get on your nerves and do that in a major way. For instance, on my very well equipped PC, the sound will cut off randomly. Meaning the entire game will go silent and you will only hear blaster shots or lightsabre humming. No world sounds, no music. The other insanely irritating "feature" is the totally quiet world - everything is working fine but then I take a speeder ride and after dismounting at the taxi, all the sounds besides my footsteps are muted. And then, when you run around in this muted world, a single convo from NPCs will start to play and continue playing till its end. This means that sometimes you have NPCs yelling into your ear a minute after you left them behind, yet they sound like they are screaming right into your ears. The stereo issue has been mentioned plenty of times - weapon fire and combat sounds go totally mono and only play on either one speaker or earphone etc.

Hoth had lots of sound issues, especially by the cracked in half space ship.

Sound of silence zones where when you enter, your "foot step on snow" or "speeder sound" shuts off and an ambient sound starts.

Nto enough sound channels are specified in the software, as soon as Bioware ups the number of channels to 64 or 128 it should not happen.

hoth: snow storms ,howling wind and squeaking when you step on snow.

we have none of them. that are the basics for every snow setting. they missed it.
