ZeroTypeR
I normally try my best not to complain, but this game has had constant lag spikes for over a week. I can't even participate in a Flashpoint now, without either disconnecting or lagging to the point where I just, die, repeatedly. Will there be a fix anytime soon? Andryah
There have been some people reporting issues... but it so far appears to be mostly Aus players. Are you an Aus player? If not... where are you located, what is your ISP, and what is the nature of the lag? Have you downloaded a free copy of PingPlotter and run it to see exactly where in your internet routing there may be a problem? Clearly it's not affecting everyone.. or the forums would be in full meltdown about it.
ZeroTypeR
Location: United States, Maryland. East Coast. My internet is fine and runs smoothly. My usual, in game, ping: 17ms - 27ms. Lag spikes have put me in the 3.000+ range. It could be the hurricanes, that have hit North Carolina weeks ago and now Florida, but that wouldn't explain why I only have issues in SWTOR and nowhere else. Yeah... it's probably weather disruptions jumbling things up on the internet. It could even just be traffic congestion as bad internet backbones on the east coast go down and the internet seeks new routes to bypass the loss. 3000+ is actually a connection loss... this game is pretty tolerant of connection loss without the client crashing.... unless it persists for many minutes. Speculation on my part.....the reason you might see this more with SWTOR and not other IP addresses is that I think they actually have some sort of interlock with the log-in services (which I think are on the west coast)... kind of like how you sometimes go to the sever select page and there is an empty server list for some interval of time. You are almost sptting distance to the servers.. so for you to have connection losses.... something is borked up between you and the game severs. The only way to know though would be to run a PingPlotter session as it will show you latency fluctuations, as well as which hop points you are routed through, and will also show packet losses. AND.... if a PingPlottter run shows the studio servers to be the source of the problem.. then you take it over to the EA support forum for SWTOR..as they do recognize PingPlotter results presented to them as grounds to troubleshoot. I saw some ping fluttering last night (I'm on the west coast) but it never got worse then about 300ms... so I did not bother to troubleshoot it with PingPlotter. Normally, when I have an issue though... it is rarely on the studio's end of things... it's an issue with a backbone close by in silicon valley (which is where I live). I did have problems one time that was an ATT backbone in the Chicago area (my internet is from ATT and they seem to prefer to route my traffic on their own backbones or on ones they have a partnership with). ZeroTypeR
Ah I see now. Thank you for the info, I'll be sure to get a PingPlotter to see what the issue is.

Actually, it could. As mentioned by the poster above, your connection goes through many "hops" and can take various routes to get to various places. It's quite possible that the only app you've been using lately that goes through a particular flaky hub, is SWTOR, because of the routing involved. Had I had lag spikes in any other areas, besides just SWTOR, I probably would've just chalked it up to 'storm causing connectivity issues'. ZeroTypeR
Issue resolved. I troubleshoot the comparability and used the recommended settings, and now most of the lag is gone. Thanks for the help people .

That could be valuable information for some other players.. so I would encourage you to detail exactly what you did to resolve it. There have been a lot of people in the game complaining. Not just Aussie players. I’ve been having it happen and I’ve been told by about 40-50 in game they are having the same thing. Then we can run through those and eliminate another possibility off the list if it doesn’t fix it. I’ve spent 3 weeks now trying everything I can think of. I’m nearly ready to give up for good. Unfortunately, I was only fine for about 20 mins, if that, then it went back to lag spikes and multiple disconnects. I did find this youtube video helpful, but it only worked for a short while: The lag spike recovered quicker, but eventually become very persistent, followed by another disconnect and me just logging off. Here's the video tho As far as compatibility, I just: Right click on the SWTOR app, went into properties, clicked compatibility, and click troubleshoot compatability. You can also just right click the app and click troubleshoot compatability. Basically, any ideas that I had about leveling up my lower level characters is now put on the back burner, a shame. Can you try a program called Ping Plotter for me and see if you have any connection issues between you and the server. Use this IP to the server : 159.153.65.220 Then we can see if it’s the same problem im having with the game or a seperate one, Edited October 13, 2018 by Totemdancer

Use this IP to the server : 159.153.65.220 Then we can see if it’s the same problem im having with the game or a seperate one, I tried the free version at the site, but it doesn't seen to run on my computer, so I had to uninstall it. On the note of lag, I played yesterday with no issues with lag spikes, so it was the hurricane causing the problems that I had. Once again, thanks for the help everyone .
