VoidStar Public Service Announcement: When calling use these terms....

With the recent update, the underappreciated 5.9.2 mini-expansion, Bioware was kind enough to mark East and West doors respectively:

/patchnotes/

/game-update-5.9.2-galactic-legend/

Voidstar

- The environment and user interface colors have been updated to be white and blue to make player communication easier.

Guards, when calling for assistance please use the following:

BLUE or EAST

WHITE or WEST

The terms "left" and "right" are depreciated. Both terms are dependent on one's point of view therefore are subjective.

Hate so much when people call left or right, then argue how it is accurate and appropriate way to call a side. I been calling east and west since first doing WZs on this game. I'd be thrilled if "left" and "right" was phased out.

After playing a voidstar today to check, you do realise that the white and blue is split into left and right on the score board map. Saying white or blue is the same as saying left or right.

Why confuse more people by adding another type of call to the mix. It’s hard enough getting to respond in the first place.

Advice to pros. If someone calls that’s means they need help on the OTHER door.

And gg

LMAO. Seems so simple :D

Or people could learn some situational awareness and how to use the mini map so they know when to move before the call even comes.

minimap is irrelevant for void star as east and west is from the attackers point of view which is why everyone gets confused. Even got into arguments with peeps insisting it was east when it was west plainly noticeable from the yellow text in the chat that says the WEST DOOR HAS BEEN BREECHED! or vise versa

People don’t know up or down half the time either. Bridge down, still fighting in the first room,

Kids these days can’t use a map in real life. They rely on apps to tell them where they are and where to go.

Maybe we should get them GPS in pvp with a B*********** Betty voice telling them where to go :D

well the accurate answer to that is to navigate from your spawn point, if you're the defender left is the blue door and right is white and the vice versa when you spawn as attacker.

even if you like it or not it has become the common tongue similiar to Civil War which has names for the different turrets on the map like crash site etc but it was way easier to just call it grass, midd & snow.

I don't know if you were joking or not, but I actually think this contributes. It's true that you just don't need to use a map now-a-days. I was discussing this with some "RL" people the other day, and someone was explaining how their nephew was just baffled about paper maps. As in, "what are those?"

And when you use your directions-app or whatever on your phone, it never says east/west. It always says "turn left" or "turn right". I've never heard mine say "turn blue" though. :p

As far as the original PSA... hahahahahahahahahahahaha - OMG this has been hashed to death in several other threads since the beginning of time. People are going to just call whatever they are most familiar with. I'll continue to use east/west, because if I tried to use "left/right" or colors, it will take longer because I'll have to stop and think about which "side" I'm on and I'll get it wrong 1/2 the time... where as I grew up with east/west, so those I just know. Plus, as others have said, anyone paying attention and likely to respond to calls is already on their way anyway, because... well... they were paying attention.

lol yeah I usually run to other side but then see it's my first side and someone just reinforcing the fact we getting hit really hard. Then, we lose it because I ran to the other side thinking someone needed help there.

One thing I do is make a note of the guards name, and watch their health if I see them losing hps, even if they never call I will head that way to ensure they got it covered.

Biggest issue really is not that people don't call, but they wait till they nearly dead or dead then call for help. :(

Biggest issue really is...

... that I see that my side has plenty of defenders with a good healer or multiple healers keeping us up, and I notice that we left a solo guard on the other door who is easily sap-cappable. So I head over to make sure that doesn't happen, and I get about 1/2 way to the other side and the enemy plants on the side I just left because apparently no one else was actually watching the door.

There, I fixed that for you. :p

No. This is why all of you kids who cant map your way out of a paper bag made right and left a thing.

East and West do not change regardless of attacking or defending. The mini map in swtor does not "spin" according to your objective. It stays static, with "defence" (in VS) generally pointing "north" with the exception of the final door. This holds true in all pvp maps. The map does not spin according to your objective. It stays static, which is why the only intelligent calls you can make are E/SE/SW/NE/NW/W/N/S. If you don't use compass for warzone calls all you show is that you don't know how to use map.

LOL for once we agree. hint: the overwhelming majority of maps are written such that N is always at the top

rofl thanks for this. ^

Man, I am so sick of ignorant dudes trying to explain to me that compass directions on this game are determined by the direction they face... The directions are static.

N, E, S, and W are ALWAYS N, E, S, and W. Depending where you are, your left will not always be the left of everyone else. No clue how this is difficult to understand.

Another tip for the pros: If you and 5-6 others are spending time killing 1-2 people at a door. The other door needs help.

I'm sure though, the 0-2 people (some dead?) guarding the other door will have pleanty of time to call out for help, i'm sure they are not busy or anything. So if they do not call for help. They are 100% to blame.....

Like in this thread from about a eight months ago, where someone flat out claimed the map spun around, and I posted screen caps to show that was not the case?

http://www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?t=940275&page=4

Here's the maps again, for anyone who really needs convincing...

attacker mini maps

defender mini maps

attacker full map

defender full map

Oh, and my favorite part, further down in that thread where people quoted me and continued to argue that the map was relative, and that the pics actually showed that!

Actually, I think we might have ultimately won that game. But I completely understand the requeue instead. The "it's not my job to watch the doors" type of player (I had someone tell me that once, "I can do good DPS, so it's not my job to watch the door. The guy who can't do good DPS should be doing that".)... but that realization that you just can't depend on anyone else on your team to watch doors, that's why if we are defending the 2nd set of doors I always stay in the middle in stealth, watching both of them. Ready to zoom to either side to stop the cap. If I'm in a game where we stop them at the 2nd doors, then my numbers always suck at the end... :p

I have a list of 3 specific people who I know watch doors like a hawk (and I hate playing against. :D ). They are about the only ones I feel safe leaving alone on a door and trusting that there will be a call if they need help.

Plus, well, if I'm to be honest, I've let a cap or two through when I should not have. Everyone makes mistakes now and then. :o So I try not to get too pissed off about it.

Mistakes are made sometimes. But you can usually tell if it was that or the whole team not watching.

People who can’t dps and watch the doors aren’t good players. Period. If someone said to me what they said to you, I would make sure I out DPS’d them just to prove a point

So much this. It's not rocket science. If someone calls INC and no one is capping your door or things are under control there, it's simple deductive logic that the INC is for the door you're not currently at. No need for left, right, west, east, white, blue. Just go to the fricking opposite door when you see an INC called. 'Nuf said.

My favorite idiotic moment from VS was when I was guarding one side and there were 7 on the other side. I'm watching the door the entire time. Someone caps a door and I see the usual toxic "no call?!!" with more colorful language in it.

They capped the door on the side with 7.

That does me make a laugh a bit. Seriously, someone could call out Bora Bora as the name of their door. It shouldn't matter. There are only two doors in Voidstar. If the door you are at isn't in danger of an imminent cap, the call obviously came from the other.

Also a lot of times in Voidstar a call shouldn't even be necessary considering there are only two nodes to defend. Usually teams go heavy to one side at the start. If you're defending the heavy side and win the DPS battle to the extent that you now have the other team heavily outnumbered, some of the respawns are almost certainly going to now head for the other door. You should already be on your way before the call comes.

Of course a lot of PUGGers don't do obvious, so they'll not check the other door and then argue about how the person who called incoming L or R needs to git gud.

This works if you are on a door, but if you in spawn and someone calls, it would be easier to know where to go if both sides getting hit etc. Sometimes you need to know the exact door but yeah, if you sitting on a door and you here a call for help, it makes sense it's the other side.

The same intuitive thought should come into play when you find yourself fighting 1 person on a side and 6 of your teammates are with you. Opps, other side probably needs help. That's what is funny but hey, who hasn't gotten stuck fighting the jugg or merc that simply won't die even though 6 of you are on them? That can make it so a team can bombard a side with little resistance when one team is focused on trying to kill one player.

Same here, i tend to ignore the chat and pay attention to where everyone else is on the map.
